I don’t know why I find her so irritating! Anyone else feel this way about her?

RoseAndRose · 21/12/2022 23:10

Do you mean the MNetter whose user name that is?

Nooo! Shit I meant Handmaids Tale

Surely someone else is watching it? I tried posting in TV addicts but nobody replied! Is nobody watching it? I’m hooked!

only on season 3 though

I found her annoying in season 3 and season 4 because she was making really stupid and pointless decisions and killing people in a way that satisfied her desire for revenge but didn't really achieve anything in terms of the greater fight. But I suppose in a way that is a realistic portrayal of someone who has been through everything that she has.

Keyansier · 21/12/2022 23:13

I thought you meant 'offered' the word 😆Who/What are you talking about?

Prescottdanni123 · 21/12/2022 23:14

Just going to add that I'm half way through season 5 and it is really good.

underneaththeash · 21/12/2022 23:14

Or do You mean the character in Handmaid’s tale who is raped every month?

namechange10022002 · 21/12/2022 23:17

The character or the actress who plays her? I find Elizabeth Moss’s facial expressions so irritating- the extreme closeups of her doing a kind of deranged smile, arched eyebrows, eyelids quivering. If she did that in real life she’d look insane.

Yes it’s exactly this!! Her facial expressions just irritate me. She wouldn’t look out of place in The Shining pulling those faces.

The “Sinister eyes” expression - looks so forced and silly

Well I think it’s obligatory to tag offred in 🤣

Dont have the balls to do it myself. Hahah

UseAMuckySock · 21/12/2022 23:20

I do really like the one eyed girl though but I’m assuming she’ll be killed off at some point (don’t tell me!)

Is there really a mumsnetter called Offred? 😂 she’s gonna love me 🤦‍♀️

OP posts:
MolkosTeenageAngst · 21/12/2022 23:26

Yes! There is definitely something annoying about her, I prefer/ preferred several of the other handmaids across the show. I think because she’s the protagonist as well the fact that there’s something I can’t put my finger on about her that I dislike stands out more than it might about a supporting character. I felt similar about Piper in OITNB as well, I usually like strong female characters but that was another case where I couldn’t fully commit to liking her.

Afterfire · 21/12/2022 23:28

Oh I love her and hate her in equal measures. Handmaids Tale is my favourite ever show, and book. I don’t want to spoil anything for you if you’re only on season 3 but I’ve re watched the whole thing 3 times now up to where we are now and the more times I watch it the more I find parts almost comical and I find myself screaming at her to stop being so ridiculous. 🙈🙈😆 (ie, she gets a chance to get away and then doesn’t. And repeat).

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 21/12/2022 23:35

I don't think you're supposed to like her really. I agree the gurning is a bit much sometimes - although someone who went through what she is would probably be insane so maybe that's the point. Dunno.

But as for liking her - she's definitely a victim, and deserves to get away from her persecutors, but she's also human and angry and selfish and vengeful. She risks other people in attempting to achieve her aims, she's ruthless.

There are other characters I like, but I suppose I find her compelling, if that makes sense?

I've just finished season 5, and still enjoying it very much.

Keyansier · 21/12/2022 23:35

Just caught up with the thread and understand now! I personally don't like a handsmaids tale (well, I may do but I have never seen it properly) The only and first scene I saw randomly were when all of the handmaidens on a bridge with ropes around their necks and were (they thought) about to be executed by the bridge falling, it was horrible to watch. And I also saw a scene about that woman with the one eye the PP mentioned. I might like it but it seems very misery-laden and depressing and not sure if it's something I am interested in.

FleasNavidad · 22/12/2022 00:27

You won't be interested in it @Keyansier I'm sure

LadyEloise1 · 22/12/2022 00:41

@UseAMuckySock
There are a few threads on The Handmaid's Tale in Telly Addicts- worth a look but I think they are discussing Season 5

Haha there is! A whole gang of them. I was actually talking to ofwarren about hair care yesterday lol 😂

MyPurpleHeart · 22/12/2022 01:18

Oh god the staring into the camera and rapidly blinking is SO annoying and there seems to be long periods of it in series 5. I almost stopped watching, it's such one dimensional acting

NotAnotherTaco · 22/12/2022 01:29

@LemonSwan ha, you'd think ofwarren would have more important things to think about 😂

KendrickLamaze · 22/12/2022 01:47

There's a thread on here about the latest series. Her face is regularly discussed. I'll get the link if you're interested.
