I don’t know why I find her so irritating! Anyone else feel this way about her?

I totally agree re Elizabeth Moss. Cannot understand how she gets so many roles. Cannot abide her at all, seriously over rated actress with a seriously annoying face!!!!

Yes , I love handmaids tale and Elizabeth Moss is an incredible actress but I agree she does have some deranged looking facial expressions in handmaids tale 🤣

So glad I’m not the only one who thinks she has an annoying face 😂 it’s not like me to slag off someone’s appearance so I did struggle with my annoyance 😂

Im at the most recent and I did used to feel like that but I feel like actually she's only human. Clearly completely fucked up, just a normal person without any actual skillset, full of anger and pain. I think it's a good representation of what happens when you survive, she's a bit mental, because who wouldn't be.

I think it's hard to have a "hero" that isn't physically attractive though, it's not the norm.

I guess being attractive is a subjective thing though isn’t it. I think she’s got a very interesting face and she looks pretty when she’s in the “normal” world. Yeah she’s crazy as fuck but who wouldn’t be in that situation?

I actually really like Serena. I think she’s a really interesting character, and it’s so difficult because as the series goes on you see her in all sorts of ways and end up feeling a bit sorry for her - which seems utterly ridiculous when you think about earlier scenes where she’s held women down to be raped. One of the reasons I re watched it all was to remind myself of why I hated her 😳

I like EM, but my life her face is driving me demented!! By the end of the final episode I could barely look at the screen. DD and I were saying that as director, does she not have the self awareness to know how FUCKING IRRITATING her blinking, bug eyed, tooth baring mad woman look is, especially in such close shots.
I'm willing someone to kill her off, she's beyond riling. Always loved Janine, but now find myself on the side of Lydia and Serena and that's all bloody June's fault.

I totally agree. Elizabeth Moss’s performance is over the top. The attempt to look sinister - switching to trying to look vulnerable. Horrible to watch.

The director should have reined her in.

It can be difficult to ask certain actors who have high status (with ego to match) to ‘tone it down.’

But she is literally ruining the show.

The actress who plays Serena is far more capable of expanding and contracting her range.

More importantly she understands the concept of ‘less is more.’

I suspect part of the issue is that as the series has gone on Elizabeth Moss has actually become the producer and director for many of the episodes….!

I've only watched 3 EPs of season 5 but literally OfFred was so bloody annoying and hammy I couldn't watch anymore.

I'm quite disappointed, because I wanted to see it to the end so next season too, but I fear it has had the same fate as a few other series, gone on two seasons too long. There's so many different new characters coming in and then out that it's confusing.

It has been my favourite book since I was 18 and I love the series but I have to agree. She looks deranged even when she isn’t supposed to. It’s not her face as such, it’s the gurning from her over acting.

I think the actress who plays serena is fabulous.

I'm just a bit bored of it now. I binged it all a bit too quickly and now I'm finding season 5 a bit of a slog.

Yes, there is a good deal of "wasp chewing" face in Series 5.

I do however rather enjoy the irony of someone who is a high profile member of a misogynistic cult based on religion playing a character fighting against what is effectively a misogynistic cult based on religion.

Gave up on this show on about Season 3 or possibly 4 (stopped paying attention) because it was so relentlessly harrowing and because the time wasted on close ups of her face could have cut the series in half and made it much more watchable.

I'm glad you started this thread as I felt awful watching the latest series and thinking how much her face annoyed me! Seems I'm not as horrible as I thought I was, or at least I'm not the only one! It just comes across so ridiculously over the top. Gurning is the right word. All the other handmaids have also been raped repeatedly, she's not the only one. There were also lots of others who had children taken away. I will likely watch the next series, as it is the last. But I think it has gone downhill.

I loved season 1 and then I got to the end and realised, having read the book, they were out of original source material. This usually spells trouble (hello game of thrones) so I googled it and everything after they have run out of book sounds stupid as fuck

Elizabeth Moss usually annoys me but in this she didn’t really.
