OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 21/08/2008 10:20

onestone i just wonder how the thread is found, obv not in active conversations wwhich implies the person has searched specifically to post on it

Shorty84 · 21/08/2008 10:21

LOL at sue your employer. At my office they are told to speak English whilst they are in the office (even thou they don't always do this)

Shorty84 · 21/08/2008 10:23

StealthPolarBear I put the threads in alphabetical order and went thru them as My South African friend told me about a different thread to look on and I could not find it but I came across this one didn't realise it was so old.

I love the foreigners in my town. Plenty of tourists, plenty of revenue.

Shorty84 · 21/08/2008 10:41

Where about's are you from?

I can understand that it must be quite frustrating for those that do come over here to work and travel and to get branded by the same brush of those that come here to milk the system.

I really don't agree with Foreigners being able to claim benefits for children that live in a different country If an English mother didn't live with there child they would not be entitled to any benefits so why is it one rule for them and another for us.

IShaggedInVictorianSqualor · 21/08/2008 10:45

Are you sure that's legal?
To claim benefits you must have parental responsibility, and be the resident parent so if these people are claiming then obviously they are benefit cheats, which IMO are bang out of order whatever race, creed or colour.

A benefit cheat is a benefit cheat, nothing else should come into it.

Shorty84 · 21/08/2008 10:47

IShaggedInVictorianSqualor Tourist and immigrants are two different things. At the end of the day Eastern Europeans are taking over the uk did you know last year alone there was 80,000 registered polish people living in England that does not include the ones that aren't registered here

IShaggedInVictorianSqualor · 21/08/2008 10:48

Also, you should have a look online for the programme dispatches did about immigration. The three nationalities that earn the most (and pay the most tax) in the UK are foreign, the people that work the longest hours, are foreign, the people claiming the highest amount of benefits are....White British.

IShaggedInVictorianSqualor · 21/08/2008 10:48

Looooooool
'Taking over the UK'
Heil Hitler.

Shorty84 · 21/08/2008 10:51

IShaggedInVictorianSqualor Apparently they are allowed to do it as they say they send money home to there families (which anyone can say) so the government pays them benefits for there kids. ( I know this is true as a polish girl in my office was doing it)

Even thou there is South Africans here that have children in the UK work and pay taxes but are not entitled to any kind of benefits as they are on a Visa. Which to me makes no sense at all.

SoupDragon · 21/08/2008 10:54

I bet they all know the difference between "there" and "their" and that it should be are South Africans and not "Is south africans" though.

Shorty84 · 21/08/2008 10:56

IShaggedInVictorianSqualor come to London for one day go to non tourist places such as Frinsbury park and other estates and tell me you do not feel uncomfortable or unsafe in these areas tell me that not everywhere you look there is not one English person. As I said before alot of you won't understand as you are not from big cities but I bet alot of Londoners would agree with me.

VictorianSqualor · 21/08/2008 10:56

Soupy

Take a look here shorty.

There are restrictions, it isn't as simple as them living here and being given money ad infinitum.

spicemonster · 21/08/2008 10:57

Shorty - I'm a Londoner. I live in Kilburn. I'm delighted to say that I do not agree with you in the slightest.

HTH

VictorianSqualor · 21/08/2008 10:58

No, you're right. Oxford is a tiny little place, not a big city

I feel perfectly safe, but then not being a racist I don't differentiate between colour and race but am more likely to judge someone by demeanour.

Incase you didn't read the Child benefit thing, basically A resident/citizen of the UK is entitled to child benefit for any children as the child is either in the country, or on a temporary absence. A temporary absence can last up to 12 weeks, or if the child is in full-time education in either Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway the temporary absence has no time limit, as long as the child will be returning to or one day living in, the UK.

Shorty84 · 21/08/2008 11:16

VictorianSqualor My Family live in Oxfordshire and Oxford so yes it is a big city but no there is not a lot of Foreigners their in actual fact most people from them areas are quite racist still to black people when you go to areas like Bicester etc you hardly see any blacks there.

As for child benefits why should they be allowed to claim benefits for children that don't live with them this girl in particularly had been in the UK for years and her child never lived with her here. Also the argument is why should they be allowed to have benefits for children that don't live in the UK and South African's for example who give birth to children here ( which makes the child British in a sense) are unable to get any kind of benefits even thou they pay tax etc.

O and for the record I am far from Racist and I have not mentioned colour in a negative way. As I have already pointed out my Best friend is Black and I embrace the black culture very well. So look up the definition of a racist.

Lazycow · 21/08/2008 11:24

I know this is a contentious subject but there are some interesting areas for discussion on the subject of Immigration.

It seems to me that a lot of Eastern European migration is about coming here to work and make money but NOT as in my father's time to necessarily settle here for good or at least for a long time.

Many Eastern European workers I think probably plan to return home when they make enough money and when the economic situation in their country improves, which I believe it is beginning to do so in Poland

I personally think what we are seeing is a sort of mobile work force and this is a great challenge for the way we see home, culture etc.

People are more mobile and are choosing to work in different countries through economic necessity or choice and the whole concept of what we call 'home' and our sense of being rooted or connected to where we come from is being lost.

However we had a massive influx of foreign workers (white, from the USa and Europe) in the 80's some of ehome setteled her for good many who stayed only a few years then moved on but most of them were bankers and city traders so no-one worried about them.

We do therefore have to be careful about how much of our feelings are genuine concerns about loss of belonging and rootedness and how much are about being scared of being innudated by "poor unwashed" foreigners. The latter leads to a lot of fear and blaming of individuals which is not only wrong but pointless.

I think immigration from countries where living conditions are intolerable if you are poor or where Human Rights violations are common is probably bit different in that many people feel they have to stay away from what is their home in the longterm.

Nonetheless I do believe that most people who decide to become migrant workes do so through the desire to improve their lives but if asked I'd say the vast majority would prefer to stay in their home country as long they felt they could live their in reasonable comfort and safety and with reasonable opportunites to improve their economic situations.

VictorianSqualor · 21/08/2008 11:25

I live in Bicester, my PiL live in the middle of Oxford city.
Believe me you do see black people here, just as much as anywhere. The Fijian army base is here FGS.

I'm assuming this child is going to be living in the UK once she has finished her schooling, if not she is breaking the law.

Are you using Jamaican words to make yourself look less racist?

cthea · 21/08/2008 11:28

"yeah i think your right FAQ" Maybe the foreigners can write English better?

VictorianSqualor · 21/08/2008 11:29

Also shorty, I've reported your post.
'Wastegash' is a personal attack.
