To think LadBaby song is awful?

I’ll start by saying I quite like LadBaby and often laugh at their couples challenges.
Didn’t mind their sausage roll songs, wouldn’t bother listening to it but Xmas number ones are all about being silly so not a problem.
But this food aid song I find really awful. I know there’s a cost of living crisis and there’s a number of people really struggling in the U.K. but there’s also a lot of people who just moan about the prices whilst sitting in a warm pub with their five quid or whatever drink, or in a warm office or in a nice house with two cars on the drive etc and to compare that with people actually starving in Africa is just awful.

The song is beyond dire. Truly awful. But I hadn't realised that the money went to the food banks, so I'm ok with it.

Whattown · 23/12/2022 19:28

It's split equally with the band aid trust - and even if its only £300k it's a lot more than my £30 which is all I can afford to donate. You lot stagger me.

Whinge · 23/12/2022 19:29

A tiny % goes to food banks.

£300k over 4 singles.

It’s clearly true that no good deed goes unpunished
Its £350k that Foodbanks wouldn’t have had. Yes they are shite but doing they’d bit.

This week they told everyone that buying their awful song was "the best way to donate to the charity". There is a large portion of their blind followers who absolutely believe this, not realising that the best way to donate to charity is directly, with gift aid on top and that charity would get 100% of your donation rather than the couple of pence in the pound from their single.

They might be doing their bit, but they are doing it whilst making themselves a few quid and not being very forthcoming with exactly what that 'bit' is.

OhmygodDont · 23/12/2022 19:44

If 300k people donated £1 that’s 300k without a sad baby song. In one year would raise more than he has in what’s it now 4?

I’m more than willing to be 1 of those and pop in a tenner to never hear him again. In fact I do help the local food banks and paid for another bands song that was donating all their funds to a food charity and their song was cheaper to buy as only 59p rather than sad baby’s 99p

Florenz · 23/12/2022 19:51

I hate him, he has no discernible musical talent, he is literally making people off the backs of the hungry.

WeDontNeedToTalkAboutJamie · 23/12/2022 19:56

They now have the record for the most Christmas number ones. Previously was The Beatles.
How, just how? Their songs are shite.

Whattown · 23/12/2022 19:58

@OhmygodDont but people don't necessarily donate £1 do they, if they just like the track and buy it, then the trust is still 75k a year better off. If ladbaby didn't do it the trust would be less £75k this year.

RoyFuckingKent · 23/12/2022 20:00

Can someone more knowledgable in how Trussell work explain this to me?

To think LadBaby song is awful?

LadBaby will be remembered after The Beatles have been forgotten.... but not before then Grin

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 23/12/2022 20:12

I've already said why I find the song distasteful. And I, too, am surprised that Martin Lewis decided to support them without any investigation into the finances of previous songs and merch.

But in ML's defence, it is entirely normal for him to sign off social media over the festive period. He does it some weekends and most bank holidays. I'm not convinced that he's not still lurking, incognito; but messages about switching off social media are entirely normal for him.

SwedishEdith · 23/12/2022 20:13

I just hate that they dominate the Christmas no 1 spot. I know that doesn't mean as many sales any more, nothing like the 70s, but their "joke" is so boring.

Badger1970 · 23/12/2022 20:18

I used to think he was funny, until that video of him in a nightclub came out.

He's a sleaze.

@RoyFuckingKent because they also provide professional support to help people get out of the situation they are in. These professionals work for the trust and also need to earn a living.

That makes sense. Thank you.

I still maintain £10 to your local bank is a better option though, from what I've heard of Trussell there is a lot of hoops to jump through before you get that help, whereas local food banks have a better idea of whats going on 'on the ground' so to speak.

Bring back Cliff Richard Xmas songs! Grin

Whattown · 23/12/2022 20:37

@RoyFuckingKent yes undoubtedly so BUT some people actually just like the track regardless of the charity. It also raises awareness.

Prescottdanni123 · 23/12/2022 20:50

Poor taste, I think. The UK is having it's struggles but it is still a lot better off than other countries. I've just come back from working abroad in a country that is currently experiencing drought, people die of diseases that have been eradicated in this country and medical care has to be paid for. And Great Britian's number 1 song has the line 'Feed the UK'

Whattown · 23/12/2022 20:55

@Prescottdanni123 however, here, many many people are choosing between food or heating

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 23/12/2022 20:57

Bring back Cliff Richard Xmas songs!

They were cheesy, but at least they were about Christmas (and not sausage rolls) - and Cliff can actually sing.

They almost make me ashamed to have my user name, lest anybody mistake me as being in any way associated with them <shudder>!

Prescottdanni123 · 23/12/2022 20:59

@Whattown

I never said they shouldn't have done a song to raise money for charity. Just that song choice was rather tactless.

Whattown · 23/12/2022 21:02

@Prescottdanni123 erm... its tongue in cheek, as there as there are more people in the uk relying on foodbanks than ever before, AND they are splitting the profits with the band aid charity
