To think LadBaby song is awful?

Cocopogo · 20/12/2022 21:16

I’ll start by saying I quite like LadBaby and often laugh at their couples challenges.
Didn’t mind their sausage roll songs, wouldn’t bother listening to it but Xmas number ones are all about being silly so not a problem.
But this food aid song I find really awful. I know there’s a cost of living crisis and there’s a number of people really struggling in the U.K. but there’s also a lot of people who just moan about the prices whilst sitting in a warm pub with their five quid or whatever drink, or in a warm office or in a nice house with two cars on the drive etc and to compare that with people actually starving in Africa is just awful.

None of their "songs" have been any good, other than, maybe, last year's colab with Elton and Ed. This year's is truly awful and I hope it doesn't get to number one as they'll probably give up then. There are ways to spread awareness without godawful music.

I do like their stuff on SM and they have done a lot to raise awareness about foodbanks, but I'd rather donate money directly to my local FB, rather than have to have this on my "purchased" list.

We are talking about it though, so if the aim is to raise awareness and support for foodbanks, then they've achieved their goal, whether they get a number 1 or not.

Out of interest I looked them up on Companies House to see whether they have a company. They do. It was formed in 2017 and as at 31/08/2021 it had residual profits in it of just under £1.9m.

Incidentally, I've also found two errors in their very simple accounts, so Rox if you're reading and you want a new accountant, let me know! 😜

OutofControl3 · 21/12/2022 11:59

😑😑😑 iv just watched it. It was awful looked like they was taking the piss to be honest.

They actually have 3 companies with very slightly different name. As accountant @AtomicRitual why would that be?

monicagellerbing · 21/12/2022 12:11

I've never liked them they just aren't funny. Video after video of him filming himself and then she jumps into the background doing a stupid dance. Over and over and over. It's not funny

Bigheartsshapelittleminds · 21/12/2022 12:16

I never understood them at all. Not remotely funny, just cringe. Their songs aren't even good. Fine have your number 1 Christmas song, but to do it every single year is tiring. Their goal of raising money for charity is good - but if they truly believed in their cause there are lots of better ways to do it. Not just doing a one off song once a year that they then get to ride the fame and profits on for another 12 months.

They’ve made a good amount of money out of being not funny, I’ll give them that, even if i’ll never understand it!

Lenny Henry has been doing that for a lot longer !

As you say the names are very similar. The letters must mean something to them so they've formed them to stop someone else getting them and being able to trade under a similar name.

GingerbreadCookie2022 · 21/12/2022 22:09

The profits go to the Trussell Trust. I don’t know about other areas but in my area the Trussell Trust only supply 3 day food packages and people can only get 3 packages per year.

I won’t be downloading the song and donate to my local independent food bank who help people more than 3 times a year. They also don’t tell the public that they charge £1500 to set up a food bank with a yearly charge of £360 thereafter.

I’m surprised that Martin Lewis got involved with this tbh.

SeenAndNot · 21/12/2022 22:24

I can’t get over they are basically comparing the hard situation in the U.K. currently to a famine that killed millions in Africa. It’s distasteful.

Cosmos123 · 21/12/2022 22:36

The are cringe.

Made money by targeting a certain audience.

Staged bollocks.

He is a cheating creep.

They will split when their limelight finishes.

Whinge · 22/12/2022 09:36

Me too. There's been quite a lot of negative press about the situation, so I wonder if he's already regretting his decision.

SwedishEdith · 22/12/2022 09:44

Haven't listened and won't because bar the first "funny for 2 minutes" joke single, everything else is shite. But Ghost Town would make a magnificent Christmas number one. Still makes the same point.

mrsrobin · 22/12/2022 09:45

Can't stand them and can't stand that word they call themselves - can't even bear to type it out! I haven't heard the song - don't need to - it is awful!

Tiredallofthetime · 22/12/2022 09:45

I like a bit of subtlety. Ghost Town, Wonderland, plenty of songs from the 80s/early 90s criticise the government but are subtle about it.

longwayoff · 22/12/2022 09:50

I live in a country that has Food Banks for people who cant afford to feed themselves. FOOD BANKS. In 2022 while fat well-fed politicians strut and lecture those who have the temerity to ask for a living wage. How utterly fucking shameful. Even Charles Dickens would be stuck for words.

Tiredallofthetime · 22/12/2022 09:56

So we should scrap food banks and have …?

TooBigForMyBoots · 22/12/2022 10:07

Ghost Town would make a much better Christmas No.1.

WGACA · 20/12/2022 22:35

My friend was collecting tins for our foodbank in a supermarket at the weekend. Ladbaby was in there and refused to even meet her eye.

I am not at all surprised. I met him once. He gave me the absolute creeps and he was awful.

Falconfield · 21/12/2022 09:53

What happened about the cheating scandal? It seemed to just disappear

I don't think there was cheating going on. Just tabloids posting a picture of him close to someone, with only one angle so looked more than it was.

Not like the tabloids and social media to make something more out of a non event, is it?

Abraxan · 22/12/2022 10:23

I don't know much about them but, like always, don't really understand the hostility.

They're appear to be a youngish couple who have made money their own via social media. Started out struggling themselves and have found a way to make money.

They made some songs for the Trussel Trust as had experience of having no/little money when they were younger. It's made money for the charity.

They didn't have to do anything. But chose to.

Fair enough if people don't like the songs - don't buy it. Donate to a charity if you want to in whichever way you want.

But why the hostility and constant desire to bring people down when they try and make a living for themselves? We see it on MN constantly and it's not nice.

Yes! I'm going to buy it right now.

Notsa · 22/12/2022 10:42

Given that the four number 1s have only raised 300k it seems like a really inefficient way of raising money. I appreciate there is an awareness angle as well but the concept of donating to food banks is hardly novel sadly so I can't imagine many people are suddenly aware of the need to donate to food banks as a result of the songs.

I don't follow them but a quick Google suggests they are absolutely minted so probably an element of multi millionaires telling people to donate more money is rubbing people up the wrong way.

So why do they vote Tory...? It's idiotic to say the least.
