To think LadBaby song is awful?

I’ll start by saying I quite like LadBaby and often laugh at their couples challenges.
Didn’t mind their sausage roll songs, wouldn’t bother listening to it but Xmas number ones are all about being silly so not a problem.
But this food aid song I find really awful. I know there’s a cost of living crisis and there’s a number of people really struggling in the U.K. but there’s also a lot of people who just moan about the prices whilst sitting in a warm pub with their five quid or whatever drink, or in a warm office or in a nice house with two cars on the drive etc and to compare that with people actually starving in Africa is just awful.

I wish we did not have many people, including those in work, needing food banks. Much as I don't like LadBaby's songs, that is what we should focus on.

MendaciousMabel · 21/12/2022 09:03

Unbelievable the other day when he said the best way to donate to the charity was to buy their single... errrm surely the best way is to donate directly to the charity?

And with gift aid

lynthesearesexpeople · 21/12/2022 09:06

Pair of twats and shite music. Christ knows why they are so popular, they are not funny or likeable at all.

I’ll just keep donating to the local food bank.

MyPurpleHeart · 21/12/2022 09:42

I used to be a huge fan, watched all of their videos and found them so down to earth and funny. Back when he did his parenting hacks and parenting on a budget videos.

The last year or two I cant stand them. Their videos now are just about showing off their massive house, her clothing line, front row tickets to Tyson Fury, the raffle with the kids where the prizes were holidays and playstations.

They aren't relatable anymore, they've made lots of money and that's great for them, but their target audience has changed now. They are influencers who get everything for free, money saving hack videos seem a bit patronizing now.

MichonnesBBF · 21/12/2022 09:43

I don't follow ladbaby but have seen a few of their videos? I don't get the hostility?
What have they actually done wrong?
All I am hearing here is some people's opinions attempting to be made into facts. Then its becomming a free for all to spread hateful, spiteful and damm right inaccurate accusations..
So help me out here please and explain?
As for the video of him in the pub...it really is not obvious it's him, in fact it looks more like my brother.

Travis1 · 21/12/2022 09:43

I’ve not listened to it and won’t; annoyed Martin Lewis is endorsing them. Ladbaby is a lying, cheating, Tory loving cunt

RaRaRaspoutine · 21/12/2022 09:46

He's a Tory-voting tax dodging creep. I think he's scum.

It's the appeal of the lowest common denominator. They're a pair of chavs.

MattDillonsEyebrows · 21/12/2022 09:51

@Funkyslippers

😆 Ahhh such fond memories!!
you've just reminded me of that time on Going live when an audience member asked Pete Waterman why his songs all sound the same? 😂

Falconfield · 21/12/2022 09:53

What happened about the cheating scandal? It seemed to just disappear

Dotjones · 21/12/2022 09:54

YANBU, their whole concept is awful. I find it abhorrent that they use poverty as a means of getting rich. They've become a millionaire based on these "charity" singles - they have (very successfully) leveraged the pretence of concern to become rich by exploiting the poor.

I urge people to buy Fuck the Tories by The Kunts instead. There are 15 versions available at the moment, so buy all of them if you can. If you only buy a one, I particularly recommend "Sausage Roll Cunt Mix" - really sticks it to Ladbaby.

Oh gosh that was brilliant. It's going to be stuck in my head all day.

Sausage roll millionaire. 🎶🎶

I can only echo what others have said. It's disgusting that each year he uses those in need to help line his pockets. Ladbaby has made a fortune from the songs, and the amount he's made is far more than has been donated.

yesitssea · 21/12/2022 10:05

Agree but it's not the point. It could be the sound of them farting on the mic but it will sell. And raise tonnes for charity.

SweetSakura · 21/12/2022 10:11

loveliesbleeding1 · 20/12/2022 21:47

Only the profits go to charity, they have made millions out of their so-called charity singles.

I know I am being dim, but I keep hearing people say this and I'm not sure what it means?
To me "profits" means everything net of costs?

The song is bloody awful though!

Profit is what is left when everyone else has taken their cut. Song writers, performers, producers and the hosting platforms.
it can be as little as a few pence per download.

Ladbsby has never addressed the profit despite being asked repeatedly, but at £305k over four number ones, it’s safe to say the profit isn’t huge.

SweetSakura · 21/12/2022 10:44

Ahhh so in other words they could choose to pay themselves a decent cut first before any "profit" is calculated. That's very misleading!!

It’s basically a vehicle to raise their own profiles and sell sausage roll themed crap at inflated prices on the back of it.

Factor in everything from transport to the recording studios, the hotels they stayed in, meals whilst down there recording the record etc. I doubt any of that came out of their own pockets. Then multiply that for all the crew etc

Things changed massively in the music industry with the rise of streaming. Bands make their money from merchandise sales more than anything else. By the time everyone in the chain has taken a cut the profits are small.

There is also an argument for how Trussell works regarding referrals.

RamblingEclectic · 21/12/2022 11:07

I don't think it's making a direct comparison to the Ethiopian famine, it's barely recognizable as related to Band Aid for most of it, until the last overrepeated 'feed the UK, help someone this Christmas time' part, it's become a 'charity tune' more than specifically connected to the '80s versions -- but yeah, it's awful.

StrawberryWater · 21/12/2022 11:10

Never liked them.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 21/12/2022 11:28

I found it distasteful that they took a song written to raise money for the starving and displaced in Africa, and mangled it to fit those facing the food crisis in the UK which, whilst being a crap situation, really isn't on the same level.

And I would love to see the accounts from the last singles to know how much they paid themselves either directly or thru shell companies. No doubt Martin Lewis has advised them on this aspect.

Funkyslippers · 21/12/2022 11:28

MattDillonsEyebrows really? Oh I must look that up (though I am guilty of buying a few Kylie songs back in the day but I was only 15)!!

mickandrorty · 21/12/2022 11:47

not heard it. I cant stand either of them though, they are so fake! how on earth they got such a cult following i do not know!

HeadAboveTheParapet · 21/12/2022 11:53

Wow I can't believe the hate.

I don't think it's warranted at all.

They have raised the profile of the trust massively. They have people thinking about donations to home charities.

They have made something from a few funny videos and done well. It's such a shame that people then feel the need to tear them down.

The original band aid and subsequent songs are all a bit cringe. It's putting western values onto other cultures. Have any of you hailing the original actually looked at how that money actually 'helped' and how much went to line the pockets of dodgy regimes.

I don't think they make any money directly from sales of the songs.
So the whole 99p doesn't go to charity but if they were getting paid they wouldn't be able to say all profits go to the charity.

They make money from the publicity and sales of clothing etc.
I'm not sure how anyone makes money from being 'insta' or viral famous but It's not going to last forever.

Lostinalibrary · 21/12/2022 11:56

I don’t like how there are a few people out there who’ve made a very comfortable living from poverty. It has become a whole industry “pity the poor people” make £££ by raising their own profile.
