To think LadBaby song is awful?

I’ll start by saying I quite like LadBaby and often laugh at their couples challenges.
Didn’t mind their sausage roll songs, wouldn’t bother listening to it but Xmas number ones are all about being silly so not a problem.
But this food aid song I find really awful. I know there’s a cost of living crisis and there’s a number of people really struggling in the U.K. but there’s also a lot of people who just moan about the prices whilst sitting in a warm pub with their five quid or whatever drink, or in a warm office or in a nice house with two cars on the drive etc and to compare that with people actually starving in Africa is just awful.

So we should scrap food banks and have …?

Come on now. That's not what you're getting out of this, surely? You cannot possibly think that people are calling for not having foodbanks instead of not having foodbanks BUT having livable wages instead??

Romeiswheretheheartis · 22/12/2022 10:51

She was on the Zoe Ball show this morning and they phoned him as he was 'at home minding the kids'. He said the kids had 'broken the air conditioning so they were all so hot they'd taken their tops off'. Do they live somewhere tropical that they need air con in this weather??!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 22/12/2022 11:08

I’m surprised that Martin Lewis got involved with this tbh.

Same here. I've always liked him a lot and he's gone down a lot in my estimation now. Plus, he's Jewish, isn't he? Wasn't it a little tactless even asking him in the first place to collaborate to a fame machine based around sausage rolls?!

Given that the four number 1s have only raised 300k it seems like a really inefficient way of raising money.

So many things like this - 'charity' Christmas cards and chuggers being just two of them. It's widely seen as a kind of gotcha if people object to being expected to buy/pay something that makes somebody a nice healthy profit, just because a tiny percentage also happens to go to charity.

I find it really distasteful to cynically exploit charities as a means to guilting people into buying your product and helping to make you rich.

ArchieStar · 22/12/2022 11:16

This is why I’m listening to Jason manford’s assembly bangers instead. A much nicer, genuine bloke who gets it.

Abraxan · 22/12/2022 11:23

So why do they vote Tory...? It's idiotic to say the least.

No idea who or what they vote. I know little about them.
However, having known how some people vote despite their background nothing surprises me. I think it's very naive to believe that all working class people wouldn't vote Tory - it's clearly not the case. You might not think they would, but lots of people do. No idea what their reasons to do so are, I don't ask even if I don't fully understand someone's choice.

But from what I've seen they didn't come from rich wealthy backgrounds, and had years of struggling the, selves when younger.

I do know they worked with a local (to me) school this year and, through friends of friends, that everyone there spoke very positively about the whole thing and of the couple. 🤷‍♀️

I don't begrudge anyone finding a way to make money for themselves, if it's not illegal.

They don't have to raise any money for anyone and they don't have to try to raise the profile of certain charities. It's a choice and no one is forced to listen, donate or whatever.

I still don't understand the hostility some people get, including this couple.

RoyFuckingKent · 22/12/2022 11:25

Martin Lewis has buggered off for Christmas. He was getting a lot of questions on Twitter about why he chose to get into bed with Ladbaby and eventually posted that he was coming off social media for Christmas with his family and see you in January.

you’d have thought that he would be trying to promote this single but seems to be distancing himself a bit now. I think he underestimated the reaction of a lot of the public.

meanwhile, over on the MSE forum (which he no longer owns but still bears his name etc) any mention of Ladbaby is swiftly removed.

I believe Wham are currently ahead so get streaming last Christmas.

justcantgetenough · 22/12/2022 11:42

I used to love this pair before they became 'big' but now I'm not a fan.

I think the bubble burst and there panicking, it all seems desperate and annoying now.

The videos this week pleading for help to get to no.1 and don't know why Martin Lewis got involved.

Why say the best way to donate is buy their song, 100% profit goes to charity but never say how much is profit, imagine it's not that much after costs.

Surely donating directly to trussel
Trust is the best way. Even if only 99p instead get a crap song that no one is going really going to play.

There obviously trying to make as much money as they can because they know it's not going to last. I can't think what they can do next, the clothes, books, crisps, merchandise, songs.

Obviously was desperate for Greggs to come a knocking and was surprised they never did at the start.

As far as I know they live in Nottingham! so no unless they have a holiday home abroad or on another holiday

ShandaLear · 22/12/2022 11:57

I would LOVE to see Ghost Town at No. 1. It says everything we need to say right now. The whole sausage roll this has been done to death, buried, exhumed, killed again, and is now just a rotting pile of horseshit. I will love Martin Lewis forever, but this is a rare career error.

Yes, lots of working class people vote Tory. But to be publicly supporting food banks and saying how we shouldn't be in a position where they are needed seems disingenuous if at the same time you are supporting the government that's created the society that makes them necessary.

No. But equally, when people say it is a disgrace we need food banks, that is different to ‘it is a disgrace working people need food banks.’

The two are very different.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 22/12/2022 14:12

I think Martin Lewis probably couldn't win either way. It might have been a "have you stopped beating your wife?" scenario for him - "Do you want to help us raise money for foodbanks or do you not care about helping the poor?" And his decision either way could then be moulded, manipulated and spread far and wide by anybody with an agenda.

I often think when I see celebs pressured into doing things for charities that, although admirable on the surface, many people find morally objectionable for various reasons; I'm very glad I'm a nobody and they'd never put me in that awkward position in the first place!

SaySomethingMan · 22/12/2022 16:49

They’ve done a spoof of that awful band aid song? Good.
´Do they know it’s Christmas time at all’ Yes, because they’ve calendars’ and most people will spend the time making merry and visiting family

And yes there won’t be snow in Africa this Christmas. Neither I’ll there be in Australia.

I don’t know who lad baby is but I HATE that song

TooBigForMyBoots · 22/12/2022 19:42

Feed The UK?, it's embarrassing to this country. Like when the prize on This Morning was getting your gas bill paid.Xmas Hmm

TheProblemIsMe · 23/12/2022 17:17

Let's not forget Martin Lewis sold MoneySavingExpert for 80 million pound and has a net worth of over 100 million pound. He's alright, Jack.

PuppyMonkey · 23/12/2022 17:25

I don’t know much about them and haven’t heard this song but think it’s a bit sad that Christmas number ones are so shite these days - no Slade or Mud or even Shaky for the young ones today to look back on and have a nostalgic moment.

Yes you got the odd novelty thing like Mr Blobby and stuff back in the day but having a joke number one every year is now more tedious than X Factor every year imho.

Least x factor was a different song each time. Their songs so far have been a changed song with sausage rolls mentioned a lot.

Whinge · 23/12/2022 17:44

How on earth did they get another Christmas number 1? The song was shocking, and all the responses to him trying for another year seem to have been negative.

Who's buying their songs? Confused

LikeTearsInRain · 23/12/2022 17:45

Well it’s just made it to number 1

The sycophant presenter said what you’ve done the last 5 years is immeasurable. Well actually it is measurable, to the tune of £300k + this years effort.

Would be interesting to see the sales figures and how much ultimately goes elsewhere. Surely they could just fundraise through their social media and raise a similar amount each year, and save us all from listening to the tune and let some proper music battle for the top spot instead.

Antigonads · 23/12/2022 17:56

It’s clearly true that no good deed goes unpunished.

Its £350k that Foodbanks wouldn’t have had. Yes they are shite but doing they’d bit.

And it is simply not true that Trussell only do 3 day food parcels and only three a year.

OhmygodDont · 23/12/2022 18:06

I refuse to listen. They used to be funny silly life hack baby walker and life hack poor stair gate door.

Now they just make money off the back of pretending to support charity. None of the money from their merchandise that they sell next to the charity song goes to charity and as shown 300K in fours years yet one of their companies alone is 1.9mil. Doesn’t take a genius to work out where the money goes when they have two other companies plus whatever they keep as personal from all this rubbish.

Someone really needs to start a thing to get lad baby away from number 1 next year same as how we got rid of it always being X factor.

TerrysNeapolitan · 23/12/2022 18:41

I have only heard this song once - which was enough. Has Ladbaby viewed the footage from the 1984 famine in Ethiopia? I guess not.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/12/2022 18:45

They are local to me and everyone thinks they are wonderful. Can't see why.

Gooseysgirl · 23/12/2022 19:19

He is a dick. Thankfully their godawful songs never get played on the radio. The only saving grace is the profits going to charity which I would imagine is the only reason people buy it. I'll just donate directly to our local food bank instead thanks.

In my area YES they do which is why independent food banks/pantries were set up by the community. How do I know this? I set an independent one up, so stop spouting shite about areas you know nothing about.
