Pushchair fight on bus

Partygal · 19/12/2022 22:25

After picking my child up from her child minder today, I arrived the bus stop to find two women with buggies waiting.

Knowing that the driver wouldn’t let three of us on, I walked round the corner to the previous stop and got on there.

When it arrived at the next stop, sure enough only mum was allowed on - the other was told to wait 30 minutes for the next bus. I was screamed at and called a cunt and a queue jumper by one mum who tried to shove me off the bus.

I don’t think I did anything wrong, nor did the police when they turned up after being called by the driver.

What the fuck is wrong with people?

I don’t know what the police said because they took the other woman off the bus with her mate, and spoke to them on the pavement.

Yeah I don’t believe this at all, police didn’t come and certainly didn’t talk to someone who had apparently assaulted someone and then not get a statement from the person who was assaulted…. I’m guessing they also didn’t get witnesses statements from the people on the bus who saw this happen either

Do you mean like these

The OP is a queue jumper and the idea of having to wait an extra half an hour in the cold thanks to her attitude would probably make most of us a bit feral.

She took a chance, there could have already been two buggies on the bus at the previous stop and she wouldn't have been able to get on. This time it worked out, another time it might not.

I don’t think you were wrong to go to the other bus stop. Sneaky, but not wrong. Yes it must have been really annoying for them and I’m sure you would have been annoyed too if the shoe was on the other foot. But it’s an example of being in it for ourselves.

I used to do something a bit similar when my children were in prams. I’d deliberately go to the bus station (the 1st stop) to make sure I got a spot on the bus when going home from town, before the bus went to all the stops through the town centre heading home. I just wanted to get home so ya know.. gotta do what you gotta do.

Tiani4 · 19/12/2022 23:42

Wow

It is tough when you've a young toddler with a pushchair or you are disabled and need wheelchair space

But this parent with pushchair was so out of line

Such that police took her off bus and "had a word"

It is very very cold out
I know as I'm disabled and shivering so if I get left behind and have to wait another 30 mins or an hour it might put me in hospital or risk my life, so I reeaaaaly understand frustration at bus services but I never get angry or in a situation of my doing that police would get called!

tillyandmilly · 19/12/2022 23:43

You did nothing wrong - you are entitled to get on at any bus stop - also shameful behaviour for a mother in front of her kid to kick off - some role model!

Are you feeling OK?

NHS is free for all. HTH.

Spectre8 · 19/12/2022 23:46

You were just smarter to do that. Anyone could of done that.

I do it on my commute, my train stops at London Bridge it takes almost 10mins to get down and onto the jubilee tune because of crowd control measures and full tube. So instead I stay on the train and get off at Waterloo East take rear entrance down to jubilee line within 4 mins now crowds and on a tube within 5 to 6 mijs. Rock up 2 mins later at London Bridge and hardly room for many ppl.

I mean that's just being smart 💁‍♀️

In your case I would of folded up my pram though or the women at the stop could of to get on

If life is so good for people on benefits and they save the odd tenner when they need medical care - why isn’t the whole country on benefits?

As I said before you must HATE pensioners. Biggest benefit recipients coming by quite a way.

School dinners are also free up to Y2 in England*, no? Weird post.
*Not sure about Wales/Scotland/NI.

I guess you didn’t do anything ‘wrong’ but it’s sneaky as fuck. You saw two people were already waiting and if you follow the correct bus etiquette you’re meant to let the buggy’s that were before you get on first. It seems like you just thought ‘fuck that, I’ll walk to the stop ahead to get on before them even though they’ve been waiting.’

It’s different if you just happened to get on the bus and two women were hoping to get on at the next stop with their buggy’s. I think YABU and sly but oh well, I’m sure you’d probably do it again anyway

funinthesun19 · 19/12/2022 23:50

Free housing? I’m a single mum, where do I sign up for free housing???

ItsBritneyBitch45 · 19/12/2022 23:51

Bananarama21 · 19/12/2022 22:40

You sound quite proud that you beaten them to it so to speak. Such shameful appalling behaviour.

Yep, exactly this!

honeylulu · 19/12/2022 23:52

Such that police took her off bus and "had a word"

... And then everybody clapped.

Penguinsaregreat · 19/12/2022 23:53

You must have lots of bus stops where you are. Mine are so far apart that I doubt I would get there in time. There again I’ve never witnessed anything like this at all in my, rural, neck of the woods.

howlingmoon · 19/12/2022 23:54

sounds like daily mail crud to me. why do you all keep gagging for it?

howlingmoon · 19/12/2022 23:55

not forgetting the 'I've got it worse brigade'. don't we all just love to loathe one another? Grin

Heyahun · 19/12/2022 23:57

Hahah

kingtamponthefurred · 19/12/2022 23:58

Respect!

SusanPerbCallMeSue · 20/12/2022 00:00

I've done this before. Might even have done it with a buggy when my kids were little. There are two bus stops in town. Most people use one, so I usually wander up to the one before, mainly so I don't have to wait as long (I'm an impatient queuer), and so I can get a seat if lots of people are waiting.

I will say though that I always had 2 buggies. A big one for doing lots of walking, and a stroller that I could fold up quickly if needed on a bus. Huge fuck off prams shouldn't be allowed on buses.

Badge113 · 20/12/2022 00:00

I'm only on page 1 but I'm already struck by the amount of people suggesting it's easy to just fold your buggy on the spot.

I don't know about others but mine certainly wouldn't be able to be folded there and then, not with the amount of stuff in/under it. The whole bus would be waiting whilst I scramble about trying to get everything out, dropping things as I go.

Perhaps I'm just unusually disorganised.

Anyway, I have to vote YANBU because I did exactly the same thing on Friday 😁

Goldbar · 20/12/2022 00:01

It has been fairly vile weather here today. Not as cold as it has been, but still cold, windy and heavy rain.

It should not have been beyond the wit of the three of you to manage the situation cordially so that all of you (and more importantly, your very young children) could get on the bus out of the cold and wet.

That means that the person with the easiest to fold buggy/oldest child should have folded it down. The other mothers should have offered to hold shopping/ the child for the parent folding to make it easier.

I find it hard to believe that you're gloating about your cleverness in leaving a stressed mother and young child to wait for a long time in this weather. Really not cool imo.

Q2C4 · 20/12/2022 00:02

Those saying they would fold your buggies... where do you put all the staff in the basket? Ie the changing bag, cool bag for milk, pram rain cover etc (& that's before you include any shopping or your handbag etc). There is no way I could carry all that plus a baby.
