My little one is getting a want, wear, need, read from santa and we were planning to get him his first shoes (he's almost 16 months) but they won't have them in until January so we can't do that now and need to think of something right now!!

He's got -

Want - toy drum

Wear - cocomelon pjs

Read - bluey board book

Please help with ideas!! I know he won't care, know or remember before anyone says that but I will 🤷‍♀️🙈🤣

He needs another book. Never have too many.

Cute hat. Sunglasses. Bath toy.

Yfory · 20/12/2022 00:53

So hes getting other stuff he will enjoy as well as the want need wear thing? Totally defeats the point.

JonahAndTheSnail · 20/12/2022 00:56

Yes to PP's suggestions of cutlery/plate sets. Possibly baby slippers if you can't find shoes right now. Or a photo of Mum and Dad for his room as he still very much need you both!

Justtoshare · 20/12/2022 01:05

Only you can know wha your child needs. Why not just do 2 wants?

pinkpotatoez · 20/12/2022 01:09

Something like this? - https://www.amazon.co.uk/First-Words-Picture-Flashcards-Ages/dp/1789089417/ref=ascdff1789089417nodl?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=606541348776&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5636774547183064228&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006965&hvtargid=pla-1679515874775&psc=1&th=1&psc=1&dplnkId=e9c6000f-137a-4132-a990-18f83ae60720

healthadvice123 · 20/12/2022 01:14

It won't set him up for knowing later as he won't remember, you can do that later when old enough
At 16 months the boxes are as interesting as the toys and they can't open presents mostly

Maybebabyno2 · 20/12/2022 01:16

I didn't even know people did stockings for 16month olds!

I'd just get him a cup or toothbrush if you have to get a need, but really I wouldn't bother too much. He will have absolutely no idea what is going on either way.

Well that's really rude.. some children don't walk until 18 months... he's doing between 2-8 steps right now

My lazy arsed sons didn't walk until they were 19 and 21 months respectively 🙄.

They're now 24 and 15, and walking fine 😃

SkylightSkylight · 20/12/2022 01:26

Pj's/sleep suit (bed wear of choice)
slippers
back pack reins
melamine dinner set & cutlery
booster seat for dining table
vests/socks

woolly hats/gloves
water bottle/back pack
all in one wet weather suit
swimming trunks & towel, swim bag

packet of nappies
tin of milk powder

i could go on 😂

eelieza · 20/12/2022 01:29

Its not about remembering its about giving your child as happy of a childhood as possible

Sunnidaze · 20/12/2022 01:40

I have never understood this need to fit in with a rhyme. If you're buying something he 'needs' because you haven't ticked that off yet, does he really 'need' it? Just get him a toothbrush and some toothpaste, my kids always get that in their stockings. If he doesn't 'need' it right now, he's guaranteed to need it at some point in the future.

Ozgirl75 · 20/12/2022 06:27

Honestly, don’t restrict yourself like this! Christmas is such a fun time to buy children presents, and this joyless “wear and need” part is just so….boring! I mean, don’t you buy him things he needs when he needs them? And “wear”? Again, don’t you just buy clothes for your child when they need new clothes?
you don’t need to buy a million things, but I’ve never understood this weird idea of limiting yourself to four things, two of which are dull.

Jellycatspyjamas · 20/12/2022 06:53

If you can’t think of anything he needs, it’s not a need it’s something you want him to have which makes the (utterly joyless) rhyme a nonsense.

SnuggleBuggleBoo · 20/12/2022 07:03

An all in one weather suit is a great idea. Or a hat. JoJo do some fab fleece lined 'trapper' hats that are waterproof too. A waterproof overall outfit will be useful all spring even if he doesn't get much use out of it yet.

Banana

Bottle of water
Loaf of bread
An Orange
Multi vitimins
A coat

🤣 box of shreddies

Doidontimmm · 20/12/2022 07:12

If you say the poem gifts are from Santa he is going to question that when he is older & friends from school say santa doesn’t follow that poem!! It’s silly sorry.

MrsToothyBitch · 20/12/2022 07:23

Just choose a different pair of shoes? There must be some somewhere!

If not, choose a size up in a key item of kit or clothing - coat, rainwear, wellies, dressing gown, dungarees, coverall for mealtimes and make that the "need" as you will need it at some point. Or a "care package" of toiletries you use on him.

CoffeeLover90 · 20/12/2022 07:25

Why the nastiness? Does it honestly matter what she buys her child? Does it effect your life in anyway? If you've got no helpful suggestions just scroll on. The mum shaming is pathetic.
@NoNamesLeft234678 for my sons 'need' option I get new clothes, PJs, slippers, dressing gown, socks and a nice winter coat. Yes I know it's probably meant to be one thing for each part of the rhyme and no I don't care what people here think. Or if you're getting the shoes in January anyway just leave that part out, he won't notice anyway.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 20/12/2022 07:25

Are you planning on maintaining Santa bringing 4 gifts only in the long term? How joyless

AndSoFinally · 20/12/2022 07:28

Puddle suit or wellies if he's just about walking?

LBFseBrom · 20/12/2022 07:28

If you have your heart set on a particular pair of shoes and they won't be in stock until after Christmas, stick to them and don't worry or else look around for another pair. At sixteen months it won't matter to him, he'll be caught up in the general excitement and atmosphere; he'll surely have to try them on before you buy anyway, it's important to have well fitting shoes. In any case, things to wear are what parents are supposed to supply when children are young and not generally special gifts.

Just relax and enjoy yourselves.

Santa only fills the stocking in my house. Nothing joyless about it. The rest of the presents are from me.

Same, but I wouldn't limit to 4 gifts half of which are boring!

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 20/12/2022 07:34

Tap water?
Gruel?
Shelter?
