...for starting that thread when I didn't believe you existed (and I genuinely didn't). I've done some proper research now, and realise that you are real person with fantastic real achievement. I apologise unreservedly for my previous thread, which was genuinely not designed to get at you since I did not believe you existed. I am aghast and incredibly impressed at how much you have achieved, and look forward to sparring with you again some time...

Nobody has been outed, either in this thread nor in the other.

Nobody has hinted at who anybody is.

It is a fact of modern life that those of who use the internet leave traces. And in my work, as is the case for many people, I use the internet as a way of marketing myself irl, which means that my full details are online, including telephone numbers and full postal address. If anybody wanted to find out who I was, I would not liken any search they might do on me to poking through my letterbox or raiding that biscuit tin full of personal old photos. So no, I don't think it is a breach of confidentiality to find out who someone is using information they've posted in a public forum. It is a public forum after all, not our own sitting room. Which is why my MN, blog and professional identities do not overlap in any way except for people who know me already irl, I am pretty scrupulous about that. And that is the way I intend to keep it.

Strong posters - I can bench press 200lbs if that helps any? Probably doesn't.

hunkermunker · 02/02/2008 18:58

Duchesse, it's about the etiquette of posting that you've discovered who someone is, surely you can see that?

BaronessHardup · 02/02/2008 18:59

I can eat three shredded wheat.

hercules1 · 02/02/2008 19:00

Why, that just proves you're a pig .

SugarSkyHigh · 02/02/2008 19:03

"i am probably seen as a strong poster"
pmsl!

hercules1 · 02/02/2008 19:07

Hercules passes Hunkmunker a weaning spoon to remind her of her 'strong' posting moments.

BaronessHardup · 02/02/2008 19:08

Well really, Hercules!

SugarSkyHigh · 02/02/2008 19:09

i fear i may be viewed as exceedingly weak

That'll teach me for trying to be Nigella.

LyraSilvertongue · 02/02/2008 19:24

The other thread's been deleted now.

beansprout · 02/02/2008 19:24

Duchesse is actually a really lovely, sound person. She has apologised and has also been honest about what she has done (I don't believe she is the first person in the history of MN to try and work out who someone might be). Can that be enough?

duchesse · 02/02/2008 19:25

Oh Beany, thank you! How the devil are you? Sprogged yet?

OP posts:
LadyVictorianSqualor · 02/02/2008 19:27

I'd be soooo easily worked out if I were actually interesting enough to bother looking for, theres only about four people with my name on google.

beansprout · 02/02/2008 19:27

The other thread has been deleted......not sure if my post made it before it got deleted, however I think that as this is a public forum everyone has the right to give their opinion....whether others agree or not is irrelevant.....freedom of speech and all that...

duchesse · 02/02/2008 19:33

Beany, I like your analogy! We do miss you in the Hut (although obviously glad you don't feel the need to be there any more). Any news from Seaside?

OP posts:
LadyVictorianSqualor · 02/02/2008 19:38

Ah Baroness, it's Victoria Nsqualor, no dot.

beansprout · 02/02/2008 19:40

Seaside had a little boy, Cassius

I miss you lot in the hut too. My fingers reamined crossed that it will be demolished one of these days.

Judy1234 · 02/02/2008 19:47

I haven't read the other thread... laughing as I type.... But I will go and look at it now. I am sure nothing anyone could ever put on line could ever hurt anyone who's lived in an abusive marriage etc. It's just words on a page. I don't of course want to be identified.

duchesse · 02/02/2008 19:48

Sorry Xenia- it's gone. I asked for it to be pulled, and it just went.

Judy1234 · 02/02/2008 19:49

Actualyl it's more a problem with men than this sort of site. Give them 3 details like - 5 children, XYZ and they find out who I am if they're clever quicker than I want so I don't even give my first name. It's partly because my business model has always been a lot of publicity I suppose and not being able to shut up, not able to read and just lurk.
