I bought a JOIE 360° car seat which at the time seemed extortionate but when I look at how much ease it has given me over the years I think it was worth every penny.
Ditto expensive Dr Marten boots.

AIBU to ask what you've considered expensive when you bought it but in hindsight realised was worth it?

Well it clearly wasn’t hype or manipulation then was it? What an odd way to frame it.

Hemelbelle · 18/12/2022 08:31

My dogs, so worth the initial and ongoing expense ❤️

mintdaisy · 18/12/2022 08:33

I bought my ghd hair straighteners when I was a poor university student. They are still going strong 15 years later.

CoffeandTiaMaria · 18/12/2022 08:38

I have recently splurged and bought Dubarry long boots, omg I wish I could have afforded them years ago. They’ll probably outlast me 😊
My Arita boots, they’ll probably outlast me too!
Baavet duvet
Eve hybrid mattress
Fine merino wool jumpers, well worth the expense, still wearing them 8 years later.

Laser hair removal.

Might seem vain but it's been life changing- I have fair skin, dark hair and if I shaved my legs/pits/bits I'd have a shadow less than 12 hours later (plus awful ingrown hairs on bikini line) which I was massively self conscious of and it stopped me wearing shorts in the summer, taking my kids swimming or the beach... 8 sessions later and I have barely any hair growth at all.

I got a deal where I got a discount for buying 8 sessions upfront - full legs, pits, and full bikini cost me about £1300. I'd pay it again in a heartbeat!

SideshowAuntSallly · 18/12/2022 08:45

My leather biker jacket, I've worn it so much but it is so worth it, the more I wear it the better it looks. Also some decent knee high biker style boots (from Clarks of all places) they were expensive but suede, comfortable and look good (and make me feel good). Even now after 4 years of wearing, they've outlasted the cheaper ones I got 2 years ago.

Can anyone recommend a good quality knife?

Joseph Joseph replaced my entire totem bin when the catch broke as it was an old model, despite the fact it was 3 years old. Brand new version arrived 2 days later. Can't fault that service!

My Nan always said buy the best bed and the best shoes because if you're not in one you're in the other, so a decent mattress, high thread count bedding and good shoes.

My Nan used to say the same! Very true

What do you drink ? I’m trying to cut down the coffee so need something nice to replace it.

Teapigs are my favourite, their website has so many different flavours and they make the best camomile tea IMO

Excusemegreentea · 18/12/2022 08:58

My beautiful cocker spaniel - 9 years wear so far and I want her to last forever🤞🏻🤞🏻🥲

Miele washing machine - last one did 15 years.

Rangemaster cooker - 17 years and counting

Our house - been here 26 years and still love it and feel very lucky we bought in the 90’s. Feel
for the kids of today.

Teeth whitening - have those dental trays, makes me feel much fresher and polished. Despite not wearing makeup most of the time !!

Ghd’s - great to smooth frizz and add occasional curls.

My deLonghi bean to cup coffee machine.

Tulipomania · 18/12/2022 09:08

Also, Charlie Bigham's fish pie (on offer last night at Sainsbury's so not even that expensive)

And I've had my Dualit toaster for about 25 years. I had to get the elements replaced about 10 years ago which cost £40 but it's been going strong ever since.

Benjispruce4 · 18/12/2022 09:08

Cashmere wrap/scarf £125 was a gift from DH and is the warmest, softest thing. Great on flights and cold days.
Sheepskin earmuffs.
Mattress from John Ryan.
Farrow & Ball paint- always the best colours.
DM boots.

johnd2 · 18/12/2022 09:09

4.5 months parental leave when my first was born, and 8 months for my second.
Going down to 4 days a week at work.

Expensive but the value of those times will last 20 year and beyond.

Benjispruce4 · 18/12/2022 09:10

Oh and Egyptian cotton bedding with a high thread count.

I have these, I love them. I tested them in the shop and stood there happily cutting up their demo veg for about 10 minutes.

@johnd2 yep I’ll see yours and raise you 7years sahm. I know it’s cost me but those years were bliss and can’t be repeated.

Ginmonkeyagain · 18/12/2022 09:14

All Birds wool trainers.

Cashmere hoodie.

Egyptian cotton bed linen.

Made to measure blackout blind and black out curtains.

Ercol coffee table and TV unit.

Twospaniels · 18/12/2022 09:17

Le chemeau wellies. £250 a pari but we spend a lot of time outdoors in all weathers and as they are neoprene lined they keep your feet warm. Definitely worth the money

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 18/12/2022 09:18

My cat. She was £300, but she brings me so much joy.

Super King sized bed and Emma mattress, enough room that my DH never annoys me with his twitching and breathing (we have separate duvets too).

Gym membership x 2. I’m a member of a fitness group at a gym and a bouldering gym. I workout about 5 times a week so it works out about £3.50 every time I go. Which is a bargain! Health and fitness stuff is a priority in our house. Thinking about private healthcare after reading everyone’s post on here!

Thisisworsethananticpated · 18/12/2022 09:19
