To not find this "joke" funny

Me and my wife have been married for 35 years and I have never let her look in the safe. Last week when I went to the market she looked in the safe, and when I got back she said “I have looked in the safe”. I said “ I told you not to look in there”. She said “there is £40,000 in there and three eggs”. She said “what are the eggs for?”. I said “Well I’ll be honest, every time I shagged someone else’s wife I put an egg in the safe”. She said “That’s not bad in 35 years is it?”. I said “No, but when I get a dozen I sell them, and that’s where the money comes from”

it feels very 1980s. I'd struggle to be offended by it.

I am sure it has been around in various forms since at least 80s😂

I just don't find "jokes" about men cheating on their wife funny. I'm not offended, nor does it touch a nerve. It just isn't funny to me. I wonder if I would get the same responses if I posted this in the feminist section.

You know that joke also has female version...

RunnerBum · 16/12/2022 22:23

The only issue is that it makes no sense. Where do the eggs come from? is she shagging hens? If he’s buying them then why sell them? I’m baffled.

RunnerBum · 16/12/2022 22:23

I’m sure OP will find that equally as offensive (and deny it) for some unknown reason.

Veryverycalmnow · 16/12/2022 22:24

It's not very funny and I feel like jokes about men cheating on their wives are old

RampantIvy · 16/12/2022 22:24

I don't think I would find that funny either @Pothoswithasparkle.

Let me repeat: it isn't offensive to me, I just don't think it contains any humour.

I copied and pasted it on here.

whooooooosh 🤣

RampantIvy · 16/12/2022 22:25

I wish posters wouldn't project or put words in my mouth.

I am not offended.

That's like when your teacher would say reprovingly 'the girls in the top stream would never behave in such an uncouth manner' or your mum might say 'Mrs Smith's daughter Jennifer would never dream of skipping school to buy Blur tickets. Try and be more like Jennifer'.

ThanksAntsThants · 16/12/2022 22:27

It’s a pretty standard, not especially funny joke. I can’t get too exercised about it really, it genuinely doesn’t evoke any strong feelings in me whatsoever.

poefaced · 16/12/2022 22:28

It doesn’t even make sense. Where do the mystery eggs come from? Does he have chickens? And if he’s buying the eggs, how is he making any profit let alone £40k?

Pothoswithasparkle · 16/12/2022 22:28

So... Did you just ome in here to ask if your sense of humour, which everyone has different, is wrong or something?
It's a meh joke, that's all it is. Some people will find it funny, some won't. s with anything

Testina · 16/12/2022 22:28

RampantIvy · 16/12/2022 22:06

I copied and pasted it on here.

See that genuinely did make me chuckle.
Both @CheesesandWines deliberate comment, and you accidentally making it funnier.

cariadlet · 16/12/2022 22:29

I agree with the op.

It's not extreme enough to be offended by or to get angry about but it's a really crap, dated and unfunny "joke".

Cigarettesaftersex1 · 16/12/2022 22:29

I don't think it's remotely funny, not because of the content, more because it's just not funny.

I prefer snappy, one line jokes, I got bored midway through that one 😴

Yeah, there's so many better versions of this joke.

Usually with the woman cheating on the man.

CheesenCrackersmm · 16/12/2022 22:30

I am not offended

So why start a thread for the simple fact that you did not find a joke funny? That is a complete non event.

PenanceAdair · 16/12/2022 22:30

It's not unfunny, I guess. I chuckled. It's funny in a stupid kind of way because it's a stupid elementary joke.

OP, it seems you're either a tiny bit offended or at least expecting some sort of outrage, which is why you wonder what would happen if you posted on the feminism board.

Did you want answers from a feminist/offended point of view?

AndEverWhoKnew · 16/12/2022 22:31

It's a very old 'joke'. Quite a dated style.
Humour is subjective. If your entire point is you don't find it funny . . . well done, you!

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 16/12/2022 22:32

The way the price of eggs has been going lately, that joke is getting less funny by the day.

RampantIvy · 16/12/2022 22:32

Did you want answers from a feminist/offended point of view?

I guess I thought I would get more comments from a feminist point of view, yes.

OP posts:
Bluelightbaby · 16/12/2022 22:33

Haha clearly I’m the only one that found it funny then 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣🤣🤣

BisodolGuzzler · 16/12/2022 22:33

The only offensive thing about that 'joke' is how staggeringly unfunny it is. Who told it? You should immediately cease to do have anything to do with whoever it was.

RampantIvy · 16/12/2022 22:36

No idea where it originated from.
