To ask the bed in front to keep it down?

There's a baby in the bed opposite with their mum and dad

They are playing something really loud of their telly they've rented, or phones. I don't know which

Trouble is, it's not just loud. It's frightening me. It's a TV series I've seen bits of before and it frightened me/freaks me out

Would I be unreasonable to ask a nurse to get them to keep it down?

It's just my baby daughter on the ward with me, otherwise. No other patients

I'd ask the nurse to ask the father to leave.

Don’t be ridiculous

YANBU it’s so inconsiderate of them. What’s with people at the moment watching films, playing games, listening to music without headphones?

Selfish , entitled individuals who feel they are better than any & everyone else. I see it all over the place : tubes , buses ,etc.

I've spent a lot of time in hospitals. They're are set quiet times when patients (and their visitors) need to be quiet as it's night time.

If it was me I would make sure it was an acceptable level but at 6pm it wouldn't be turned down to a low level. Hospitals are known to be disruptive places.

Do you have headphones you could put on?

Play something equally loud on your own device.

^^This. Sometimes you got to fight fire with fire. YANBU.

The nursing staff shouldn't really allow this. If it were me, I would ask a nurse to tell them to turn the TV off or use headphones.

In the 70's when I had my first child, I was on a ward of about 30 patients. I felt like death warmed up but those who had been on the ward for several days (they kept you in for a week then) were all perky. The TV blared all day. It was hell. So I have every sympathy with you and hope you can get it sorted.

Hospitals are only disruptive because people make them so. If we all watched TV or listened to music "at an acceptable level" in public places then it would be impossible for anyone to hear themselves think, and the people who do it are more than capable of recognising this. Acceptable is using headphones.

what does everyone think “the nurse” can do?!

Ultimately she’ll just get abuse and ignored.

Staff have no authority anymore.

I'm a nurse and if it really was at an unreasonable volume then I would 100% insist that they turn it down.

No. Hospitals are disruptive places because it's a place where sick people are. Illnesses don't run on a clock, someone could vomit at 4am. Someone could go into labour at 5am.
A hospital is somewhere people are sleeping and resting like they would at home, most public places aren't to sleep and rest, hence why people don't watch a TV on a train.

Or give to the annoying couple opposite
