To ask the bed in front to keep it down?

There's a baby in the bed opposite with their mum and dad

They are playing something really loud of their telly they've rented, or phones. I don't know which

Trouble is, it's not just loud. It's frightening me. It's a TV series I've seen bits of before and it frightened me/freaks me out

Would I be unreasonable to ask a nurse to get them to keep it down?

It's just my baby daughter on the ward with me, otherwise. No other patients

AIBU? Blush

Speak to a member of staff and ask that they’re told to keep it down. People can be so bloody selfish!

If the OP has seen the series then I would tall them how it all ends as well as get the staff to tell them to turn the noise off.

Devoutspoken · 16/12/2022 17:56

Mam0918 - we all have different tastes

what does everyone think “the nurse” can do?!

Ultimately she’ll just get abuse and ignored.

Staff have no authority anymore.

Any non-patient who is abusive to the nursing staff should be thrown out and told never to return, the well being of the patients and staff trumps any perceived 'right' he has to be there

shivermetimbers77 · 16/12/2022 17:57

Ugh, I hate it when people don’t use headphones/don’t make their kids use headphones. It’s so selfish. You have my sympathy OP.

Why is is unfortunate that fathers have a right to be on a hospital ward with their children?

Abusers should have no rights, if he can't do as the staff say then he shouldn't be there, father or whatever.

MarshaBradyo · 16/12/2022 17:59

I don’t see the issue with asking a nurse. There’s no point in suffering from the noise - and I don’t mean the reaction you have if someone was blasting peppa pig and I or dc was sick I’d want them to use headphones

squidgybits · 16/12/2022 18:01

I am of a new opinion in life in general
Do not moan about things if you do nothing to change them
Tell the nurse it is unsettling your child
To all those suggesting eaarphones/earplugs to OP, is she to also earphone/plug the poorly child?
They are CF's get them dealt with

FictionalCharacter · 16/12/2022 17:06

Is that actually true - both parents have the right to stay on the ward, not just one?

It's the middle of the day, yes both parents can be there. Why would people think the dad has no rights to be see his kid in hospital? We were in for four months solid. Do people honestly expect us to never be with our +sick kid together in that time??

Toomanysleepycats · 16/12/2022 18:03

My go to for times like these would be to start singing something like Kum bay ya my lord, or hymns to your baby, and get progressively LOUDER!

Peoniesandcream · 16/12/2022 18:11

I don't see the relevance of a pp saying to "ask the man to leave" as if he has any less right being there but just ask them to turn it down?

Soothsayer1 · 16/12/2022 18:14

I'll try = if you think I'm going to obey you then you're wrong love
he sounds like a dick/moron
poor baby

canyouextrapol · 16/12/2022 18:22

Did he try? Succeed?

lgcoopers · 16/12/2022 18:27

oh please... beyond belief lol, I watched that as a little kid, its up there with 'are you afraid of the dark', I struggle to imagine how fragile a fully grown adult would have to be to be scared of light hearted urban legends that are then confirmed as untrue lol.

Loads of them are revealed true? It's bloody eerie!

Did he try? Succeed?

Nope. But this time it's tipping point (I presume on catch up at this point) playing loud for all to hear Confused

One of them has to go soon anyone (two parents 8-8 then just 1)

I wonder if you'd of posted if it was something you weren't "afraid" of! You can't dictate what others do at 4 in the afternoon

Weefreetiffany · 16/12/2022 18:30

Baby shark, as loud as your phone can go. On repeat.

This is so bad, obnoxious behaviour

Shesasuperfreak · 16/12/2022 18:37

Play ASMR on YouTube loudly

Soothsayer1 · 16/12/2022 18:39

does he look like the sort to 'kick off'?

EndlessRain1 · 16/12/2022 18:42

Complain to the nurse again. This is really not on, and is incredibly selfish and inconsiderate.

YABU to be scared though, I find that a bit strange.

lgcoopers · 16/12/2022 18:44

Soothsayer1 · 16/12/2022 18:39

No. He looks like he works at Oxford uni or something

OP posts:
TLIMSISNW · 16/12/2022 18:46

Utterly selfish. There is no need to ‘try’ to turn down the volume. You push the volume down button and do it.

NippyWoowoo · 16/12/2022 18:50

I watched a zombie film on the ward in bed after giving birth (although with headphones which is standard protocol in hospital).

You're sick a cool mom, not like a regular mom.

So cringe

Aftersevens · 16/12/2022 18:50

YANBU to ask them to turn the volume down. But I really recommend you don’t mention that you’re scared of the series as you’re less likely to be taken seriously.
