To think WTF is going on with Royal Mail?

What is the actual point of them anymore? I sent a small parcel 1st class 2 weeks ago and it's still not arrived...

Why?

because I’m calling out your childcare choices? And standing up for RM workers not being forced into the same decisions.

I stand by it, you cannot just change workers hours and push them into the wrong choices or they’ll lose their jobs.

it needs compromise, which RM are not happy to discuss.

Reported, again. I can keep doing this forever. You're a disgrace.

lieselotte · 16/12/2022 09:26

It's absolute nonsense to suggest the current 6 day USO needs to remain in place just to cater for the tiny proportion of first class mail that does still exist

You do have a point but having two days together when there is no post won't work. People do need to get post on Saturdays because there is none on Sundays either. If the Royal Mail want another day off, maybe they should choose Wednesday and then nobody goes more than a day without a delivery (theoretically anyway; as I said above, I am pretty sure our post is being saved up and delivered every few days anyway, even without strikes).

ChecoPerez · 16/12/2022 12:36

So 2 parcels arrived today. One I ordered 2 weeks ago, one I ordered 5 days ago - both Royal Mail tracked 48.

Had heavy snowfall during the night so expected not to have any deliveries or collections today. Collections came first then parcel deliveries 20 minutes later. I wonder if the regular post will be out? Good on them for ploughing through

Officially 2 weeks without post now ... I suppose some of my bills aren't getting paid ... great!

@WorriedandScared93 most of your bills can be accessed and paid online, I don't receive a physical bill for anything any more so not sure why you reckon yours will be in such trouble

Contact providers and pay over the phone

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 16/12/2022 20:07

I've managed to lose my credit card so god knows when I'll get a replacement. I can't pay it as I've locked myself out of the account and bloody Sainsbury’s bank can't take payments over the phone. Apparently they've put a waiver on my account so I'm just hoping I don't get a late payment charge or black mark.

Lancrelady80 · 17/12/2022 02:10

girlmom21 · 16/12/2022 07:30

Well it's 07:30 here and still dark

As I said, typo as should have said 3 hours, not 2. And at 7:45 the sky is generally lightening, not getting darker. Finish times currently are 3pm here. Push that back another 2 hours as they are wanting, and you're talking 5pm absolute earliest finish. Except in the winter when it is busier (and darker) they want posties to work longer hours as part of the annualisation of hours they want to impose.

Sunset yesterday at 3:51pm. So that's probably a good couple of hours in the dark, alone, many on poorly lit streets (our village has a grand total of 3 street lamps spread over around a mile and a half.)

Have they sent you out a replacement? Someone tried defrauding us but the bank picked up on it and declined and blocked the card.

We spoke to the bank on Saturday, requested replacement to be sent via Special Delivery and new cards arrived Tuesday morning.

If not already sent out, try that. Hope all works out for you.

panko · 17/12/2022 05:50

If somethings been sent signed for and accepted at a post office is that the only update I get until its delivered? No idea if it's got to the parcel depot yet.

ILoveeCakes · 13/12/2022 12:48

Evri person brought a small parcel today. As I got to the door, he was on his tiptoes nebbing through the windows at the top of the door.

Unprompted, he made up something about stretching as he'd been working so hard.

I wouldn't have thought anything of it, except that he made that BS comment. Now I wonder if he was either being nosy or casing the joint. It's quite a nice house, you see. Could be either. Or maybe driving a van does do your legs in?

How weirdly paranoid Hmm

magicthree · 17/12/2022 06:46

I live in a country where letters are delivered on only three days a week in towns and cities, and while some of us grumbled initially we are used to it now and it works. There are so few letters/bills being sent now delivering them on six days a week seems ridiculous.

magicthree · 17/12/2022 06:51

They really don't. Here people either get their letters on Mon/Wed/Fridays or Tues/Thurs/Saturdays, so both have two days with no mail. The world hasn't ended!

Haruka · 17/12/2022 06:58

The concerning thing is bills which are still delivered exclusively via RM, which can very much lead to trouble if not paid.

I waited 3 weeks longer than usual to get my vehicle tax bill with the reference needed to pay - they don't do that one online and not paying on time would have led to all sorts of trouble.

Similarly, if you have recently moved house and are now waiting for your first council tax bill, e.g. as proof of address. Or a driver's licence renewal.

Those are the letters getting lost that can really screw people over.

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/12/2022 07:03

I take your point but Most bills are online and paid by DD. DVLA is a bit of an anomaly.

You won’t get your car clamped or towed straightaway, I forgot to do mine one year and just got a reminder.

Are they? I handle everything I can think of online.

FerretFumbler · 17/12/2022 16:06

The hypocrisy on MN is atrocious.

Yay to all the nurses striking, but so little support for the posties it seems.

Which would you rather have? Reduced letters or reduced hospital care?

Dinosaurpoopy · 17/12/2022 16:18

I fully supported them but now DH dbs has been lost in the system, he can't start work and it's taking an ambulance off the road. We also can't pay our mortgage and bills this month as he can't start his new job until it arrives. Don't know what we can even do..

Letters are a lot less important than hospital care.

The traditional role of the postman has largely been made obsolete by electronic communication. Just like many other traditional occupations have (blacksmith, milkman, telephone switchboard operator, typist etc etc). Striking isn't going to make people start sending letters again.

We had this at work some time ago. We contacted the DBS service & they issued the reference to us & cleared the person to work while a replacement was sent.

I find this hard to believe. I live in NZ - often described as "backward" on MN - and I haven't had a bill delivered via mail for many years.

I didn't think of asking for special delivery. They've sent out another card first class and when I pointed out to the woman I won't get it in time to pay she helpfully said 'no, you won't'! I have another credit card but my biggest worry is not being able to pay - I was quite surprised they don't take payments over the phone. I'll be setting up a direct debit after this!

Literally the very post above yours has illustrated how the lack of just one letter is impacting healthcare.
