Am i bring unreasonable to not be surprised by Corruption in the EU, I would imagine it’s only the tip of the iceberg

OP posts:
Hoppinggreen · 12/12/2022 13:20

Specifically ?

Unphased · 12/12/2022 13:21

Sorry, being unreasonable

OP posts:
LlynTegid · 12/12/2022 13:23

We have left the EU. Let's focus on the wrongdoings or worse of our own government.

Well it’s a good job we left the EU and no longer have to worry about The Establishment here being corrupt and making £29 million or similar from awarding contracts to their own dodgy companies that didn’t even deliver what they were paid for
What a relief

Unphased · 12/12/2022 13:28

I think that any organisation that has a large amount of power you will find corruption, this is to do about the EU

arrests for alleged corruption. Well, good that they're taking action wouldn't you say?

Imagine Michelle Mone (to name but one) being arrested for her corrupt ways. Don't be silly, people just look the other way in the UK. Corruption is government sponsored! Smile

pointythings · 12/12/2022 13:30

OP, I think you might want to read the verse in the Bible about the beam in your own eye and the mote in your brother's - no point being glad about being out of the EU when corruption is rampant in our own government.

Unphased · 12/12/2022 13:31

Why do people keep bringing back to the U.K. This is about the EU, are you surprised to find corruption in the EU?

OP posts:
BMW6 · 12/12/2022 13:35

I'm not remotely surprised at EU corruption. They've managed to keep a lid on it for donkeys years, but it was bound to come out at some time.

Exactly
They are taking action

CousinKrispy · 12/12/2022 13:41

Not really relevant to me as we're not part of the EU now.

The Michelle Mone thing is shocking and enraging. Shameful for the UK.

I am no more surprised to find corruption in the EU than I am to find it in the UK. The difference is that in the UK people get rewarded, not arrested. As an effort at telling us how great Brexit is, this is pretty feeble.

Goldpaw · 12/12/2022 13:44

There have been arrests.

Unlike in the UK where, compared to the size of the EU, I put money on it being a lot more rampant here. Few are ever punished, and like another PP said, it's state sponsered here.

Yes people can & will be corrupted.. in this case a foreign state (Qatar) tried to bribe EU officials, Belgium police have raided offices and made arrests, charges ...

Whats your problem with all of this?

In regard to the UK, we should be able to look at say Lady Mone (plus the many other areas of corruption in the UK Govt) and her £29m of corruption and compare to other countries etc and see how they deal with it.

Remember that in the case of £11 billion in fraudulent covid support loans, Sunak just wrote it off... no investigation, no arrests... who says crime doesn't pay?

Would you prefer the EU did that?

Quite!

Let's hope the govt freeze the assets of Michelle Mone before her house and country estate get sold and the money follows her and her husband to Honduras.

LadyWithLapdog · 12/12/2022 13:46

I have some news for you. It’s about awarding PPE contracts, VIP lanes for Tory backers etc. I don’t think we call it corruption over here. For some reason.

Unphased · 12/12/2022 13:46

If she is found to be guilty, I’m sure she will be arrested

So OP, are you surprised at corruption in the UK? I can’t find your equivalent thread.

I don't think you understand how the justice system works...

Why keep bringing it back to the U.K., This is about the EU, let the police handle any supposed misdemeanours, The EU officials have had evidence found and been arrested

A cynical person might think that this bunch of shysters government were so keen on Brexit because it made it easier to get away with their own corruption.
