Am i bring unreasonable to not be surprised by Corruption in the EU, I would imagine it’s only the tip of the iceberg

If she is found to be guilty, I’m sure she will be arrested

She isn't even being investigated by the Police, not even her party.... much less being arrested.

I applaud the EU and European police forces for cracking down on foreign interference...

Compare to Putin and Russian money given to the Tory party... which ran into millions, not the 600k euros involved in the EU case, which seems to centre around a Maltese MEP... Malta is not known for its strong anti corruption stance.

Why do people keep bringing back to the U.K. This is about the EU, are you surprised to find corruption in the EU?

Why are so invested in this? Did you vote leave and are you trying to find reasons that justify your poor decision?

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 12/12/2022 13:52

Unphased · 12/12/2022 13:50

Why keep bringing it back to the U.K., This is about the EU, let the police handle any supposed misdemeanours, The EU officials have had evidence found and been arrested

Stop whining and add something to the conversation then!

pointythings · 12/12/2022 13:43

I am no more surprised to find corruption in the EU than I am to find it in the UK. The difference is that in the UK people get rewarded, not arrested. As an effort at telling us how great Brexit is, this is pretty feeble.

Well said.

Surely not. In a world where people don't get arrested until they have been found guilty. Hmm

OP, you're so transparent I could use you for a window pane.

Unphased · 12/12/2022 14:08

If she is not being investigated by the police, perhaps legally she has done nothing wrong

Unphased · 12/12/2022 14:08

What has this to do with Brexit?

Every organisation has corruption - it is inbuilt whenever people are in power. I suspect there is just as much in the UK as the EU if not moreso.

Why do you think you can dictate to people what they say and think?

I'm looking forward to several more arrests of UK ministers and former ministers. Corruption in any sphere should be rooted out and the perpetrators dealt with. Seems to be taking a lot longer in the UK than it is in Europe.

Which is a good thing
I am still confused as to what the problem is
People do crimes (allegedly) - Police arrest them.
Thats the way it’s supposed to work, surely?

pointythings · 12/12/2022 14:14

These labour shortages are getting beyond a joke now. You can't even get a good Brexit shill any more.

All big organisations and systems have some degree of it.

Does the good outweigh the harm?

We're not in the EU anymore (and most people talked about the EU as if it were some separate entity from us when we were in it anyway) so its as relevant as talking about corruption in some other country or group of nations. Russia for one, USA for another?

Quveas · 12/12/2022 14:16

Oh come on. You really aren't that stupid are you? You thought you'd start a Europe bashing thread and were surprised that people noticed? Before anyone starts crowing about this, we need to put our house in order first. They seem to take corruption far more seriously in Europe than we do in the UK.

Unphased · 12/12/2022 14:18

It is a good thing that people have been arrested, can anyone be surprised by corruption in the EU, is this a shock to people?

why do you keep repeating yourself? have someone check your battery pack.

ThreeFeetTall · 12/12/2022 14:21

Are you concerned about corruption in Qatar? (Which is where this money came from)

greenhousegal · 12/12/2022 14:21

OP sounds like the archetypal Brexit supporter. Not much criticism of the home country but lots of face saving criticism of others. i.e. generally not much between the ears.

When our own house is in order, then we can judge others. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone and all that.

Brexit appears to be making it easier for Governments to be corrupt and shady anyway. Which is probably why the negatives are being hushed up big time.

Unphased · 12/12/2022 14:30

Yes concerned about corruption in Qatar, but this is about the EU

OP posts:
Unphased · 12/12/2022 14:32

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant
because for some unknown reason people keep trying to bring it back to the U.K.

OP posts:
pointythings · 12/12/2022 14:35

People bring it back to the UK because your OP comes across as a faux-naif 'oh look at the horribly corrupt EU, aren't they awful, so glad we're not part of it any more'.

If your OP had been worded along the lines of 'am I being unreasonable to be concerned about corruption in governments and international organisations' and you had then quoted the Qatar scandal and the Michelle Mone scandal, you would have had very different responses.

Unphased · 12/12/2022 14:44

pointythings
that’s how things get misinterpreted on social media, no axe to grind, just wondering if people expected better from the EU or not

OP posts:
pointythings · 12/12/2022 14:52

Better than what? If you're asking do I expect the EU to be completely free of corruption? No, because I'm not stupid. Do I think the EU is worse than the UK? Hell no. Do I think the EU is handling it better than the UK right now? Hell yes. People have been arrested, which is more than we can say in the UK.
