What is with the phrase "the piece" ... for example, "it's the piece around engagement with stakeholders" ... "the piece on communicating key messages" ... "the piece about maximizing outputs". IT DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING.

My manager has a “daily drumbeat” with other managers over an important piece of work we’re all currently working on. Kill me

😂

You guys most work in Marketing...

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 11/12/2022 09:23

Oh yes, granular detail.
Feck off

"Onboarding" makes me die of cringe

Oh, good God, yes! That one is awful.

Boysgrownbutstillathome · 11/12/2022 09:29

BBC news reporters all seem to deliver "pieces" nowadays instead of reports. I don't know why this grates on me so hard, but it does!

7Worfs · 11/12/2022 09:31

Onboarding has been an official thing/process for a while now, when referring to new employees or vendors/clients.
I’m fine with it, but lately I’ve been hearing about pre-boarding and that I can’t get on board with.

@Shockhorror22 mine 'hops' onto his calls.

And on the subject of calls, when did company-wide meetings become 'all-hands'? Pretending to be sailors doesn't make them any less boring

I agree with most posts here, but not this. Pretending to be sailors makes EVERYTHING more exciting.

"Segway" is another that's emerged over the past year or so.

In a meeting on Monday and someone used this.
I visibly winced

No need!

chocolateasaltyballs22 · 11/12/2022 09:34

I don't think we've had a 'pivot' yet?

Also, 'agile' is not WFH - it's a way of working to deliver in bite sized pieces. (And yes, I am aware that that makes me sound like a wanker)

Oh god, someone at my work bangs on about where they have stored ‘assets’. They mean images, for social media. Makes me die inside.

But that is a common universally used term.

We have a daily stand-up where everyone is sitting down.

Ugh bloody customer journey.

Agile PM tool. Standard.

What's wrong with a feckin power point presentation?

Three words vs one. Easy.

Standard terminology for new starters.

It's AGILE that makes me want to chin people at my office.

Agile my fat saggy arse.

You don't understand it then.

agile !
what is that!

Standard project management framework

and yes to Robust!
where do they meet to come up with these terrible wanky sayings!

It's a normal word being used in a context.

MichaelFabricantWig · 11/12/2022 10:09

The point wincarwoo is that these so called industry terms are still a load of corporate wankspeak. Being industry terns doesn’t make them less so.

MichaelFabricantWig · 11/12/2022 10:16

I’m going to use as many of these as possible at work this week 😂

MichaelFabricantWig · 11/12/2022 10:17

There was a point I was thinking of pursuing a career in project management. So glad I didn’t now, I would struggle to keep a straight face at all the wanky lingo

YomAsalYomBasal · 11/12/2022 10:35

@wincarwoo they may be standard to you, but I reserve the right to clutch my cringe gland in despair when I hear them.

Thepeopleversuswork · 09/12/2022 19:07

A pox on your pieces and spaces.

We have far too much of this in my industry too.

'Circling back to your point' on pieces and spaces, I raise you 'organic team development' and 'socialising risk' as well as ensuring you have a 'critical friend' at work.
My team and i always have to have a debrief after a meeting with my boss's boss to see if we can work out what he was actually talking about.
I do love 'wankspeak' though! I'm stealing it!!🤣🤣

I disagree. Many are standard terms for specific things. However "circle back" is corporate bs

Weird. PM terms have specific meanings. Wait til you find out how GitHub got its name.
