As an Irish person, I just dont get the obsession with the royal family

I'm sitting here and watching Harry and Megan on Netflix. It came up as number one viewed today on my list so I tuned in during an idle hour .I m shocked..the obsession with their lives, the paparrazi involvement destroying family holidays.Jesus Christ, how did they not crack up . Hell on earth.Surely, as humans, theyre just like the rest of us..just loaded and victims of their environment.

I do get irritated with the implication that because I’m British I must be really into it all, this baffling monarchy thing that other nationalities don’t get

it happened when I lived abroad, as though I would take an interest. I didn’t.

for some people they love that there are royal families to ogle as long as they can bask in their feeling of superiority that their own country doesn’t have such a crazy thing

I don't think it's that unreasonable for countries who don't have a royal family to think that countries that practically shut down if royals die probably likes them/is a bit interested in them.

As a British person I have no intention wasting my time watching. You watching has just added to viewing figures which makes the press believe there's more interest than there is. Swings and roundabouts tbh!

I'm irish and I'm interested in the Spanish royal family too, eg, why is Felipe king when don Juan Carlos is still alive.

It's also interesting in a people-watching kind of way to see how prince joachim of Denmark 🇩🇰 (younger brother of heir Frederik) also felt he had "no choice," but to go to France, and that was before his mother stripped them of their titles.
I'd love to know if he is watching harry's show nodding.

I'm interested/Scared for princess Märtha of Norway and her new American shaman partner Derek. Her children lost their father to suicide on Xmas day.
She stepped down but I think he might plunder her like a resource. He will do it calmly with soft words and a soft voice.

That's exactly the way I feel. Why should I have to pay for their life of almost unimaginable luxury, with hot and cold running lackeys. The nauseating sycophancy of the coverage of the dead queen was quite something.

My local radio station had people on saying how brave and hard working she was, as well as perfect comic timing and all sorts of other crap. I felt like it was North Korea. She never did a stroke of work in her puff and brave? What did she do? Arrest a mugger? Storm a Taliban machine gun nest.

Fuck's sake!

I see no point to them, and I get fed up with newspapers and media giving us the daily soap opera of their latest squabbles about nothing.🙄

They need to count all their many blessings, stop with all the whining about trivia, and jog on.

My America friends and relatives are much more interested in them than I'll ever be.😚

Theres no such thing as a gold digger and it’s misogynistic to suggest that one given woman might be such a thing? I don’t think you know what some of those words mean.
