I'm sitting here and watching Harry and Megan on Netflix. It came up as number one viewed today on my list so I tuned in during an idle hour .I m shocked..the obsession with their lives, the paparrazi involvement destroying family holidays.Jesus Christ, how did they not crack up . Hell on earth.Surely, as humans, theyre just like the rest of us..just loaded and victims of their environment.

Pathetic , steryotypical English response (ironic much ! )Nothing like a bit of nasty to stand out from the crowd ,some things never change 🤫

I don’t know if it gets you as you get older. My elderly mum never used to have any time for the royals and says she still doesn’t but she’s obsessed with everything they do or say. I never used to be interested either but since the two pathetic attention seeking wingers buggared off to “make their own money” I’m starting to pick up an interest.

when I’m 86 I’ll be like my mother and discussing the arguments between Princess Charlotte and her American actress cousin Lilibet with my own kids who won’t give a shit.

BiasedBinding · 09/12/2022 07:36

As a British person, I don’t get it either and there are lots of British people who feel similarly

Im also not choosing to watch documentaries about then

eggandonion · 09/12/2022 08:46

I think it possibly increases with age. It is a bit like watching afternoon telly, a with a nice cup of
Tea.
Meghan and Harry made a trip to Dublin in the early days, the presidential dogs, as usual, upstaged the president. Charles and Camilla intend to visit all 32 counties, they seem to enjoy visiting Ireland. As do the Monaco royals, and the Danish Queen was the most frequent guest in farmleigh.
Watching netflix isnt compulsory, thankfully.

ElephantInTheKitchen · 09/12/2022 08:53

They're the original celebrities. Kardashians with a pedigree and some state support.

PupInAPram · 09/12/2022 16:01

@margaretatthecircus it's manufactured. You see what they want you to see.

BertiesShoes · 09/12/2022 16:21

Same here.

I was staying with a close friend the weekend the Queen died. At one point she was screaming profanities at the TV and when I asked her what was the matter (we were also getting ready to go out), she said H&M and started a major rant. She has a busy life, plenty of interests, but was so agitated by these people that she doesn’t know!

I really don’t understand her! I have been messaging her today. One of her replies was ‘I am watching H&M and screaming at the TV’. Why, just why?

I will be out with a small group of local friends before Christmas. One in particular will spend time slagging off M, she did last time we were out, just after funeral (did you see her smirk, did you see this, that & the other). Surely when socialising with friends we see 3-4 times a year, there is so much more to talk about than bitching about people we don’t know, have never met and never likely to!

I like these friends, but just can’t understand why they are obsessed with H&M, (mind you, they are also obsessed by celebrity shows, which I don’t get either!)

SinnerBoy · 09/12/2022 16:38

I don't give a hooping funt about the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha family. I think that they a gang of hugely over-privileged and a complete waste of space and money. If people want the anachronistic aristos, they should be able to cough up for their parasitic lifestyle, leaving the rest of us to opt out.

mynamesnotMa · 09/12/2022 16:47

Newspapers like to obsess about them and create a narrative that's at times poisonous and wrong.
It wouldn't end well she was black married and American. We know the establishment is racist sexist and stuck up.
All these bullshit traditions when they have god knows how many paedophiles in their family are German and mostly all divorced.
I think good for them to do what any sane couple would do run create your own wealth. She has been stabbed in the back by her father and step sister and just seems to be very enthusiastic for life which we English hate.
I think the press create this toxic narrative as they are furious that she left. Written by white middle class old men who suck up to the Royals and sell mainly right wing newspapers to the more mature market.

StressedToTheMaxxx · 08/12/2022 20:58

As an Irish person, you don't get it? My mother in law is obsessed with them; my Irish mother in law. People of all nationalities take an interest in them. Nothing to do with where you're from.

I'd imagine they are trying to goad people from Northern Ireland.

Mercurial123 · 09/12/2022 17:25

I have an Irish friend who is obsessed with the RF. I couldn't care less about them. Everyone has an opinion.

PeaceJoySleep · 09/12/2022 17:29

I'm Irish and I find it all very interesting. I don't want a monarchy here in Ireland! but even though I'm not invested in to the longevity of the monarchy I still related to the human side of it all. Even if you're an anti-monarchist in the uk you could still appreciate which royals are doing a good job and which are not. At the moment it's all particularly interesting.

serenaisaknobhead · 09/12/2022 17:41

As a British person, neither do I.

StephanieSuperpowers · 09/12/2022 17:46

I watched the first episode too. If their advisers told them they should make this programme, their advisers hate them. It's just awful, cloying, silly, self absorbed and tone deaf.

audeloquipalam · 09/12/2022 17:59

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 08/12/2022 21:56

Yes I’m sure if Harry wasn’t a prince she’d be just as in love 🤣 how anyone can take this pair of proven liars seriously is beyond me

Yep, all very Mrs. Merton - for those of us old enough to remember that.

Endlesssummer2022 · 09/12/2022 18:04

Haven’t read the thread. There’s no obsession apart from the Daily Mail and Daily Express and their odd readership. Some of them also post here.

Most people don’t care, have other things to worry about and think people who are triggered over what H&M do are a bit strange.

BrokeAsABone · 09/12/2022 18:05

I'm an Irish person from the six counties and I agree with the OP to an extent. I don't mind the royal family but don't support them either. It's a bit weird and unsettling to see the people who consider themselves to be British here, bow and scrape to them when they themselves don't have two pennies to rub together.

DuchessDandelion · 09/12/2022 18:08

As an English person, I don't either.

LlynTegid · 09/12/2022 18:12

Whilst the support for a republic is still a minority, most people are not obsessed with the monarchy. There was a great deal of respect for the late Queen, and probably the thought of President Blair or someone like President Trump as our head of state an alternative not supported, but that is all.

The Irish Republic seems to have been fortunate in the current and previous two Presidents, many countries with an elected head of State not so much. Look at some of the previous French Presidents for example.

lieselotte · 09/12/2022 18:14

FTY765 · 08/12/2022 20:36

Plenty of British people don't get it either.

This!

iklboo · 09/12/2022 18:22

I'm English. I couldn't give a shit about them.

EllaPaella · 09/12/2022 18:23

I'm English and couldn't give two figs about Harry and Megan or any of the Royal family. Don't understand the hype and obsession of some people over them at all.

Lampshadered · 09/12/2022 18:39

This couple is acting like they were being hounded by the same thing which is simply not true

How can you know this? It's funny how people that don't like H & M can be absolutely convinced they are lying about their experiences.

TERRRYsnotmine · 09/12/2022 18:42

The way people are getting uppity with OP and being rude making references to the pope.... proves your point OP!

bit below the line!

pigsDOfly · 09/12/2022 18:47

You don't get the obsession with them OP and yet you're sitting watching their Netflix nonsense?

Just because it comes up as your number one viewed doesn't mean you have to watch it.

I'm English. I have absolutely no interest in the royal family and don't get the obsession that some people have with them either, which is why I most definitely won't be watching the Netflix programme.
