I'm sitting here and watching Harry and Megan on Netflix. It came up as number one viewed today on my list so I tuned in during an idle hour .I m shocked..the obsession with their lives, the paparrazi involvement destroying family holidays.Jesus Christ, how did they not crack up . Hell on earth.Surely, as humans, theyre just like the rest of us..just loaded and victims of their environment.

English and I don’t get it. Two spectacularly underwhelming and narcissistic people using whatever they can find to lecture others and make money.
Harry has a small fortune - they could have renounced those superior titles, left the jewels behind, trained in actual ‘jobs’ and lived quietly ever after in relative luxury. And yet… here we are….

Fairislefandango · 08/12/2022 21:07

I'm English and I don't get it either. Most English people really aren't obsessed wthe royal family though. The only person I've ever known who was super keen on them was dh's late grandmother.

Keyansier · 08/12/2022 21:09

You understand perfectly. You managed to seek the documentary out on Netflix which most people not interested have managed not to do, and you're also no stranger going by your post to the Harry and Meghan headlines. Why are you hiding behind you being Irish to pretend you don't get certain obsessions with Meghan and Harry and the royal family? Does Ireland not have access to the Internet, or international media, or am I misinformed by the country's accessibilities?

If you want to bash, just bash, don't hide behind stuff. It's weak.

eggandonion · 08/12/2022 21:11

As An Irish person...the Wales visit to Boston was to an event at the jfk center, the Sussex event was an rfk center? The Kennedy family is also fascinating in Ireland.
And how delighted we were when we found the Obama heritage, so good we have a motorway services called Obama plaza.
Maybe we just like observation! My lovely late neighbour got the Daily Express , and loved the royal gossip.

Keyansier · 08/12/2022 21:13

I feel like the majority of my posts tonight have been about this damn documentary and I haven't even seen it! (And no interest to).

Tinkerbyebye · 08/12/2022 21:14

It’s them that are obsessed, not the British people with the RF.

They are obsessed with money and think they deserve adulation. They need money hence the podcasts, Oprah interview and this. All full of lies and proven lies at that, but happy to diss supposed dirt with taking no responsibility themselves for their own actions

I know a way you can fix that...

Stop posting about it, or watch it?

latetothefisting · 08/12/2022 21:17

it's not just the royal family though, is it? It's the same with loads of celebrities. Did you miss all the articles about how 2 of the examples of the paparazzi hounding M&H in the trailer alone were actually of completely different events that had nothing to do with them (a harry potter premier and katie price arriving at court)?

Yes it's completely mad but it's not like a phenomena that's new and unique to them. It's no weirder to be over-investigated in their life than in any other public figure, in fact there's at least some small justification as until recently the british public were indirectly funding them.

Crabbi · 08/12/2022 21:18

I don’t think it’s anything to do with your nationality. There are a lot of people that don’t get it. I’ve found those who are not British tend to be more obsessed with this sort of thing.

This is a picture of Britney Spears hounded by paparazzi (if you are able to spot her in the pic by her blonde hair). This couple is acting like they were being hounded by the same thing which is simply not true.

WhiskersPete · 08/12/2022 21:27

As an English person, I don't get it either. In fact, it baffles me.

Gunner1510 · 08/12/2022 21:31

I don’t get it either the obsession with the Royals and M&H. I hate constant daily dull articles on the Royal Family and just don’t understand the interest in them personally, but that’s just me I understand others might be interested.

I saw (didn’t read) an article on Meghan yesterday I think where the columnist was asking in the headline what her obsession is with always wearing white when she has kids and goes certain places… so fucking what if she chooses to wear white like who even notices?! Who cares!!

I’m quite bored of constantly seeing this ongoing saga splashed round everywhere now, I think it’s been two years has it not? And Piers Morgan cropping up every two minutes to comment… bore off!!

I just get fed up of hearing about the RF as you can tell, they just seem to be everywhere, all the time!!

FreezyWater · 08/12/2022 21:35

I'm English. I don't get it either.
I really don't understand how people find the time or the effort to be so worried about what goes on in a family who probably don't give two shits about what any of us think.

I really don't understand the vitriol against meghan and Harry either. We have far more urgent and important things to worry about! 🤷‍♀️

RaininSummer · 08/12/2022 21:40

This English person doesn't get it either.

sst1234 · 08/12/2022 21:43

How long before the inevitable divorce comes along and then they can milk it even more, blaming everyone but themselves.

eggandonion · 08/12/2022 21:48

I hope that doesn't happen. I would like them to be happy, and be able to visit their UK family a couple of times a year.

Funny.

1994girl · 08/12/2022 21:54

I'm British and couldn't care less.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 08/12/2022 21:55

That’s nice. No one is asking you to ‘get’ the RF. I’m not sure non-Brits opinions on the RF are especially relevant

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 08/12/2022 21:56

margaretatthecircus · 08/12/2022 20:44

They come across as really in love. Its like a real love story .Are my romantic blinkers on ...

Yes I’m sure if Harry wasn’t a prince she’d be just as in love 🤣 how anyone can take this pair of proven liars seriously is beyond me

Byfleet · 08/12/2022 21:58

All Irish people are obsessed with leprechauns. I know this is true because I’ve seen all the postcards and badges in the tourist shops. I just don’t get it. As an Irish person OP please can you explain this?

nokidshere · 08/12/2022 22:01

There's nothing new in people being obsessed, it happens all the time. Births, deaths, marriages, scandals, celebs, reality shows, royals, murders, the list is endless.

I haven't seen the Netflix programme but they are as entitled to feel how they feel as the next person. Just because you are rich, famous, royal, doesn't mean you don't get depressed, miserable, jealous, angry or whatever, they are just people feeling slighted like many before them.

If you don't care then don't watch. It really is that simple. If you watch and agree/disagree no-one cares anyway.

They are much like plenty of siblings, partners & in laws, other dysfunctional families on Mumsnet, only they get paid to air their feelings.

Devoutspoken · 08/12/2022 22:05

I'm not particularly interested in the royal family or Harry and Megan, but like the op, it came up first on netflix, so thought I'd have a look. it's quite easy viewing, it does not fill me with hate as it seems it does others

newnamethanks · 08/12/2022 22:19

English here. They wanted their privacy. They ran away to get it. Now they're showing us lucky millions just how fab privacy is. In 6 1 hour volumes. I don't understand it either. They're welcome to a private life, wish they'd get on with it.
