I'm sitting here and watching Harry and Megan on Netflix. It came up as number one viewed today on my list so I tuned in during an idle hour .I m shocked..the obsession with their lives, the paparrazi involvement destroying family holidays.Jesus Christ, how did they not crack up . Hell on earth.Surely, as humans, theyre just like the rest of us..just loaded and victims of their environment.

well obviously!

FTY765 · 08/12/2022 20:36

Plenty of British people don't get it either.

Bananaman123 · 08/12/2022 20:36

Haven’t watched it but this made me chuckle

ItsDinah · 08/12/2022 20:41

Beats fatstock and wet fish prices as a newspaper filler. It's become the world's longest running soap opera.

margaretatthecircus · 08/12/2022 20:44

They come across as really in love. Its like a real love story .Are my romantic blinkers on ...

Most people aren't. You're the one who watched it - but now you're accusing us of being obsessed?

It's plastered all over the papers, but I haven't read a single article - I expect it's more of the same old same old they've been spouting for ages - and I wasn't interested then.

But like I say, you watched it. Not me.

emmetgirl · 08/12/2022 20:47

Lots of us don't get it either.

margaretatthecircus · 08/12/2022 20:48

Yes because it was most popular on the list .Im now intrigued and dare I say it, hooked....Oh, the irony .

I'm English. Me neither.

I haven’t watched it yet but will do soon.

As someone from the west coast of Scotland I don’t get it either. Plenty of English ( and and Welsh) people don’t either. I didn’t grasp how bizarre it was until people started behaving like North Koreans mourning the loss of their leader, when the Queen died. And the vitriole levelled against H&M, especially M for daring to speak out about their experiences.

UWhatNow · 08/12/2022 20:50

Most folks don’t really give a shit either. It’s just a source of gossip and the odd bit of pageantry and pomp on a national event.

If you’re referring to Harry and Meghan - they are two not-very-bright narcissists who think that their specialness creates a following but the ‘interest’ in them is actually people just stood gawping at car crash in progress.

Pugsbladder · 08/12/2022 20:50

They're not the Royal Family and it's them who are obsessed with themselves.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 08/12/2022 20:50

It's nuts isn't it. All those people sobbing and hysterical at Diana's funeral - totally unhinged.

I think some British people think of the royals as an extension of their own family and take any grievance against them very, very personally. No wonder they wanted to get the hell out.

Ferntastical · 08/12/2022 20:51

Basically this Grin

I'm English and have no interest at all in watching it, or reading about any of the RF really.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 08/12/2022 20:52

@uwhatnow I just watched episode 1 and just saw two people giddy and falling in love - didn't see any signs of a 'car crash'.

Justthisonce12 · 08/12/2022 20:52

It’s absolute bollocks I remember in primary school reading footage about starving Irish children with moss round their mouth where they tried to eat literally the grass waving little flags at the great big fat queen Victoria, who could hardly move. She was so obese. I decided it was bollocks then when I think I was about nine and my opinion has not changed.

margaretatthecircus · 08/12/2022 20:53

I would rather eat my own foot than live their lives.Surely sometimes love just aint enough....

I don’t get it either. But I told myself I wouldn’t comment so that is all I can say.

As an Irish person, you don't get it? My mother in law is obsessed with them; my Irish mother in law. People of all nationalities take an interest in them. Nothing to do with where you're from.

AhNowTed · 08/12/2022 20:59

OP don't believe everything you see on a highly curated Netflix "documentary".

You know those "candid" b&w photos in the kitchen. You do realise there was a professional photographer just happened to be there 🙄

TBF the OP didn't stereotype. They never mentioned anything about WHO was obsessed. Just that they were Irish and were not.

AhNowTed · 08/12/2022 21:03

And amazing all that personal footage from early on.. herself crying to camera. It's almost as if it was .... planned 🙄

Though she did say "jesus christ" and "hell on earth", so maybe she does like the Pope!
