AIBU TO BE FLOORED BY CONCERT TICKET PRICES??

Nofilter · 08/12/2022 19:26

I'm looking for a concert to take my DD (6) and her cousin a similar age to.. something like Justin Beiber or Taylor Swift.. or anyone who has a large enough following for an arena show and age appropriate.

At this age a good show with high end production, lights etc will be so much fun for them.

We both love Billy Eilish - that was £400 a ticket last year. I took my DD to Little Mix last year at a reasonable £66 per ticket...

Beiber is £140 per ticket for the cheapest seats... how do people go to these concerts any more?

I thought £66 was a little steep for LM!

I'm really not paying £420 to go to Beiber with two under 7s!

Guess it's either a west end type (Lion King etc) production or Disney arena show? Any other ideas OPs?

Maybe not but I get to judge people's shitty taste in music and why they bring up such bland, banal children...

This is why I love festivals. I go to one called Shambala and there is music from all over the world there. Opened my eyes to how many incredible artists there are out there that aren't in the mainstream (and are far more talented than Cookie cutter acts we hear on the radio). Yep, I'm a music snob.

Bumgh · 08/12/2022 19:44

How about get some fucking taste. Yard act tickets £22.50, billynomates £17.50, the chats £20. All infinitely better than taylor fucking swift. Your children will thank you

Music snobs are just the worst.

OP, what about Matilda? Matinee tickets aren't too bad.

Damnautocorrect · 08/12/2022 20:11

Twickets is quite good for resale tickets as they are face value or less, you can set up alerts for whenever anyone posts them as well.

yes big concerts are ridiculous now. You have to really want to see the artist.

I'm a massive music snob. I admit, I am the worst 😅 but only in my head.

I just Alexa'd those three bands, couldn't pay me to listen. DS has asked for Paradise City in instead 😂

I've got tickets for Coldplay and Bruce Springsteen next year. Happy to have paid out for both. Coldplay worth every penny for the experience, and been waiting to see Bruce since I was 15.

Look for touring productions OP in your local theatre, they're usually around £30 a ticket.

Blasphemy! 😂 Yard Act are amazing! But also this proves that music is completely subjective....

Going slightly off topic, but my local panto is sold out of the dates we wanted so we looked at one in London. £350 for 1 adult and a child!

did you consider going to a panto.in another town? Tickets & hotel probably would still have been cheaper and extended fun?

Exhausteddog · 08/12/2022 20:17

It does seem to vary quite a lot. My teen DD is seeing Harry Styles next year and the tickets were 100 for standing/75 for seated (prob not a great view) then she's seeing Louis Tomlinson which was iirc 55/ticket. She's desperate to see Taylor Swift but I'm dreading how much those tickets will be.

Maybe something like summertime ball would be more suitable for younger children and not as expensive ?

Caszekey · 08/12/2022 20:17

Silvers11 · 08/12/2022 20:08

You are not unreasonable to be upset about the ticket prices for any concerts/shows. They are very expensive. Depends where you live of course as to HOW expensive they are? I have just paid £75 per ticket ( dress circle, so best seats) to see Wicked Next Year at the Edinburgh Playhouse. Two tickets for Andre Rieu at the Glasgow Hydro next May cost a total of £265 including the usual transaction fees. Tickets for a Chinese Ballet (Edinburgh Playhouse) next year were over £100 each. On the other hand we have best seat tickets near Christmas for Peter Pan and Wendy at (an excellent) small theatre in Perthshire @£30 per ticket

Yes, at those prices, many people will either be unable to afford to go to any of the things they would like to see, some will find the money somehow if they are desperate enough to see a particular show - and some lucky folks will not have to think too hard about going or not. Unfortunately putting on these shows and tours costs a lot of money and the artists involved are doing it for a living.

Having said that I wouldn't dream of taking a 6 year old to any concert or show. I think you'll find Lion King tickets won't be much cheaper than concert tickets. In my opinion, even if they reasonably enjoy it, a) it may be too long for them to sit for that length of time and b) they won't especially 'appreciate' it. Must be much cheaper options to give them a treat?

I really fancied the Chinese Circus but couldn't justify it after paying £175 for Pink Gold Circle Standing. Hollywood Pirates with Johnny Depp was much more reasonable

Whycanineverever · 08/12/2022 20:19

If you want theatre tickets there are lots of options to get them cheaper (admittedly better if you are flexible on dates). Many do lottery's - £25 for top price tickets. Check out seat plan & theatre monkey - often restricted views are not that bad at all if you look at photos from seat plans etc. sign up for all the mailing lists going and there are usually offers.

TodayTix does same day rush tickets every morning - again £25 ish.

ps: you're failing at being 'edgy'

I think fans should go on ticket strike and just not buy them. It's not about the music anymore, it's only about the money.

Abouttimemum · 08/12/2022 20:21

i briefly looked tickets for Pink but they were a joke. I know loads of people going though (same people that tell me they are struggling financially)

yesforone · 08/12/2022 20:25

Prices are high because of greed. Ticketmaster continues to allow touts to buy up tickets of popular gigs. Bands continue to allow it too but some have agreed to not allow re selling of tickets for profit. Twickets are great for fair gig prices .

Isababybel · 08/12/2022 20:25

I saw blackpink tickets for nearly £1000 each when they played in london recently. They werent amazing seats either (there was only 2 left!). Actually insane. I looked just to see how much theyd be going for but didn't expect THAT.

Presumably they should give thier music away for free entirely then. It's about the music and them making a living!

Millana · 08/12/2022 20:28

@Bumgh if I've heard of bands you can rest assured they are not trendy, edgy or not mainstream (un-stream?). I have heard of and listened to all of the ones you've listed.

Besides, you're limiting yourself but dismissing mainstream pop. Yep, some if bubblegum nonsense but actually there is some good stuff. You can't dismiss whole genres.

Stressedmum2017 · 08/12/2022 20:30

Seems like it's become something only for the privelidged to be able to enjoy which is a bit sad.

Puffalicious · 08/12/2022 20:33

I saw Paul Heaton (The Beautiful South) last weekend at the Hydro in Glasgow (BIG venue all the big acts do). He insisted his tour is £30 a ticket- every venue, every night. A true socialist- he still makes enough and fans see an amazing show at a decent price. Merchandise was also really reasonable.

Other acts are raking it in. My DNiece queued for the Harry Styles pop up shop in London at the weekend- £72 for 4 nail varnishes. It's fucking obscene. It's all about the money.

Dibbydoos · 08/12/2022 20:33

Tickets are outrageously expensive, I agree OP. though LM costs are low tbh.

I've just bought my mum and son tickets to see Michael Buble. They're Xmas presents but, yes eye-watering!

Mind you I spent £500 a ticket to see BTS with my DD at their first UK concert and it was amazing, so much so, I then paid £££ to see them in Wembley with her.

But I def wouldn't spend stupid money on small kids going cos the likelihood is they won't really remember it.

Blur tickets at Wembley stadium are around 123 a pop! I can't justify it!

I've got tickets for this but massively disappointed in the support line up.
I would never usually pay so much but I've never seen them live and have been praying for a reunion for so long 🤣
