AIBU TO BE FLOORED BY CONCERT TICKET PRICES??

I'm looking for a concert to take my DD (6) and her cousin a similar age to.. something like Justin Beiber or Taylor Swift.. or anyone who has a large enough following for an arena show and age appropriate.

At this age a good show with high end production, lights etc will be so much fun for them.

We both love Billy Eilish - that was £400 a ticket last year. I took my DD to Little Mix last year at a reasonable £66 per ticket...

Beiber is £140 per ticket for the cheapest seats... how do people go to these concerts any more?

I thought £66 was a little steep for LM!

I'm really not paying £420 to go to Beiber with two under 7s!

Guess it's either a west end type (Lion King etc) production or Disney arena show? Any other ideas OPs?

How about get some fucking taste. Yard act tickets £22.50, billynomates £17.50, the chats £20. All infinitely better than taylor fucking swift. Your children will thank you

This is why I do festivals. My favourite festival is £250 a ticket, £40 for my 4yo. See loads of amazing artists over 3.5 days and can pay in monthly installments. Ticket prices are crazy for a 2 hour concert now.

Yup

Some nasty comments on here about peoples choices of music, there is no need for it, is there.

Newuser82 · 08/12/2022 19:55

It's so expensive! We got Hamilton tickets at the beginning of the year, they were nearly £200 each!

user1634987 · 08/12/2022 19:56

DS is usually very lucky and gets Glastonbury tickets each year as it is much more worth the money, he doesn't go to see single artists now because of the price

Millana · 08/12/2022 19:56

Maybe not this time of year but see if you have any local music day festivals. We have one big one that showcases loads of up and coming and local artists. Might not be "names" but still some really good music and family friendly. Plus it gives them the opportunity to hear different types of music live.

Redlorryyellowlorryblue · 08/12/2022 19:57

Going slightly off topic, but my local panto is sold out of the dates we wanted so we looked at one in London. £350 for 1 adult and a child!

Don’t look at lion king prices unless you’re sitting down OP

I came to write this 😂😂😂😂😂

Lonelycrab · 08/12/2022 19:59

This is the flip side of having everything you want to listen to, for free on Spotify or YouTube.

20 or more years ago a large money could be made by selling a physical product. Cd vinyl etc.

So the main income stream for artists is now gigs.

tabulahrasa · 08/12/2022 19:59

Justin Bieber’s tour was sold out nearly a year ago, and has since been postponed... so any tickets you can find are people selling them on, or ticket touts, so yeah, they’ll be silly prices.

If you want tickets for concerts that are likely to sell out at cost price - you need to be sat waiting for them to go on sale.

Most of them have lower priced tickets, it’s just that touts buy loads and sell them on for a huge profit.

Millana · 08/12/2022 20:01

Also if it's the songs and concert experience they want rather than specifically seeing eg Beiber then don't dismiss tribute bands. Do your research first but there are some really good ones!

@Bumgh eh? Who the hell are you taking about? A bunch of random wannabes?

LadyOfTheFliessssss · 08/12/2022 20:04

Smaller acts. There are lots of fun bands around like Henge that you could go to see for under £30 a ticket. You can get closer to the stage, it's more interactive, and there's a much bigger chance to meet the artist.

WTF. The last concert I went to was Queen with Adam Lambert as my dad was a massive fan and he'd recently passed away so I took my mum but that doesn't mean I'm about to swear, call out the OP and demand the OP take her 6 year old to see them!

OP you're right concert tickets have become silly expensive over the last few years.

Maybe not but I get to judge people's shitty taste in music and why they bring up such bland, banal children...

Ambertonix · 08/12/2022 20:05

Coming on to sing the praises of the wonderful Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott (ex Beautiful South) Their tour is fabulous. Tickets only £30 and includes hits from Housemartins (really showing my age) that i didnt expect. Wonderful night out with a working class duo who understand the cost of living!

Really no need for that. People are allowed to have their own taste in music. And given how popular your bands are compared to Bieber and Swift, most people disagree with you

How about stop being so fucking aggressive and accept other people like different music.

CuteCillian · 08/12/2022 20:06

I got Billy Eilish for £65 each, Utilita Arena in June. Brilliant seats.

the80sweregreat · 08/12/2022 20:07

Blur tickets at Wembley stadium are around 123 a pop! I can't justify it!

Silvers11 · 08/12/2022 20:08

You are not unreasonable to be upset about the ticket prices for any concerts/shows. They are very expensive. Depends where you live of course as to HOW expensive they are? I have just paid £75 per ticket ( dress circle, so best seats) to see Wicked Next Year at the Edinburgh Playhouse. Two tickets for Andre Rieu at the Glasgow Hydro next May cost a total of £265 including the usual transaction fees. Tickets for a Chinese Ballet (Edinburgh Playhouse) next year were over £100 each. On the other hand we have best seat tickets near Christmas for Peter Pan and Wendy at (an excellent) small theatre in Perthshire @£30 per ticket

Yes, at those prices, many people will either be unable to afford to go to any of the things they would like to see, some will find the money somehow if they are desperate enough to see a particular show - and some lucky folks will not have to think too hard about going or not. Unfortunately putting on these shows and tours costs a lot of money and the artists involved are doing it for a living.

Having said that I wouldn't dream of taking a 6 year old to any concert or show. I think you'll find Lion King tickets won't be much cheaper than concert tickets. In my opinion, even if they reasonably enjoy it, a) it may be too long for them to sit for that length of time and b) they won't especially 'appreciate' it. Must be much cheaper options to give them a treat?

Wexone · 08/12/2022 20:09

You should come to Ireland ticket prices are really high. Always get the usual as we are an Island cost of transport ect is really high. Just paid 75e each for beauty and the beast in the Bord Gais over xmas. On another note though is bringing a 6 years to a concert a good idea regardless of who it is, do they have the energy or attention span for a concert. We went to see the lion king last year and there was a good few that age at it, they were board halfway through restless and some fell asleep

Dittosaw · 08/12/2022 20:09

You are right OP it’s a whole thing. Google Reddit threads on Ticketmaster.

OoooohMatron · 08/12/2022 20:09

OP have you thought about looking at tribute acts? There are actually some pretty decent ones around and are usually great fun!
