Secret Santa - This shocking right?

NC for this, as workmates may be on here.

Anyway, work's Secret Santa. Ordered two gifts, one was a holder for glasses. Described as 'handmade from authentic durable Indian Shisham wood'. Erm... Not even close. 😅

What ordered, versus what I got!

Wow! My DH got one of these last Christmas from our niece. But is was the one on the left; it's actually very nice!

PleaseTakeItOff · 07/12/2022 23:03

I’m sorry but it is hilariously bad 😂

Mandyjack · 07/12/2022 23:05

If its Amazon return it

DonttouchthatLarry · 07/12/2022 23:06

I saw these at a craft fair on Sunday - they looked like the one you ordered though. I love the giraffe one!

catzrulz · 07/12/2022 23:08

stuntbubbles · 07/12/2022 21:24

That is truly awful, but… the “what you ordered” version is spectacularly bad too. The definition of “look at this terrible thing I got in Secret Santa, do I burn it or inflict it on a charity shop?” Lucky escape if you can refund the worse version and get literally anything else.

Am I the only one who thinks "spectacularly" bad wins the Internet today?

CheesesandWines · 07/12/2022 23:13

I don't understand the issue. It does look handmade.

stuntbubbles · 07/12/2022 23:14

@catzrulz ahahaha entirely unintentional! but let’s all pretend I’m a genius

Newmum1998 · 07/12/2022 23:20

Am I the only one that thinks it’s similar

just different wood

OP can you show us a picture with glasses in it ?

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 07/12/2022 23:23

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 07/12/2022 22:00

I actually love that giraffe.

So do I, I want one!

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 07/12/2022 23:26

The one that turned up looks like Stevie Wonder made it and allowed his cat to chew it.

MrsToothyBitch · 07/12/2022 23:37

This made me chuckle OP. I wouldn't be thrilled to receive either although at least the one on the left is finished properly! It would therefore go to the charity shop. The one on the right would go to my FiL who has a woodburning stove so it could be useful.

Stick to chocolates or wine or something of that ilk!

SusanPerbCallMeSue · 07/12/2022 23:44

I wear two pairs of glasses, so would quite like somewhere to put one pair while I'm wearing the other. Although I did buy something back when I only had one pair so should probably find that.

If I got something like the giraffe one as a secret Santa I'd be happy.

If I got what the OP received I'd think you hated me. Grin I'm shit at crafts but I think even I could make better!

DinosApple · 07/12/2022 23:44

Haha my BIL bought me one of those. It looks like the Amazon listing picture though not the one you got! It's fine as a gift.

I used to use mine before we moved house but think it's still boxed somewhere.

KimberleyClark · 07/12/2022 23:46

That’s awful. Got one for my DH and it looked just like the first picture.

ADifferentKindofChristmas · 07/12/2022 23:56

Trixiefirecracker · 07/12/2022 22:50

Why do people have such awful taste and insist on buying pointless gifts?!

Maybe because we are all different and have alternative ideas of what is "tasteful"?

Just a thoughtXmas Hmm

ADifferentKindofChristmas · 07/12/2022 23:59

That's me off to Dunelm for a Giraffe in the morning.

I need a gift for my Giraffe obsessed, glasses wearing friend and know that she will love this!

If I see any other MNers in the Queue holding one, give me a waveXmas Grin

I would be so disappointed if you were my secret Santa - a wooden nose glasses holder is utterly pointless. My glasses are either on my head or in a box. Honestly, it would be kindling for the log burner. Give wine.

I agree. I think I'd cry if someone gave me that! (And by that, I mean any glasses holder shown here)

KimberleyClark · 08/12/2022 00:07

AreOttersJustWetCats · 07/12/2022 22:23

It's obviously dreadful, but tbh the product is pointless anyway! I've worn glasses all my life and one thing I have never felt the need of is a glasses holder. It's so tall and unstable looking... it's guaranteed to get knocked over on your bedside table, damaging the glasses.

My DH has special glasses for playing the piano and doesn’t need to keep them on his bedside table. He keeps his holder on the piano.

BrightSaturn · 08/12/2022 00:10

Get them wine. 😂😂

ShittySanta · 08/12/2022 00:15

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 07/12/2022 21:54

I love it. Reminds me of one of those cake fails.

Fucking hell! 😅

This exactly. If I felt that I needed a glasses holder, even the "good" version pictures is hideous!!

HairyMcLarie · 08/12/2022 00:29

Haha!

Sounds like the seller took on more orders than they could deliver so panicked, thought 'how hard can it be' and whittled one themselves from a random offcut. 😂

Marcipex · 08/12/2022 00:32

Just give wine/chocolates/pot plant.
People don’t want this stuff. Ugly and pointless.

Does the person the OP is buying for wear special glasses for playing the piano then?

WiddlinDiddlin · 08/12/2022 03:49

Oh boy that is so bad, not counting that it is a pretty horrible item... (but each to their own I know!)...

It looks like three different types of softwood (or soft hardwood), it has gouges out of it, the base piece is filthy and dented/scuffed up and the glue shows everywhere.

I carve little ornaments, it would have been possible to carve that out of two pieces of wood easily and mount one on the other without visible glue, scuffs or dents - I mean not for £7 quid but still, you'd think the scuffs and dents would be tidied up and it all stained the same colour!
