Secret Santa - This shocking right?

NC for this, as workmates may be on here.

Anyway, work's Secret Santa. Ordered two gifts, one was a holder for glasses. Described as 'handmade from authentic durable Indian Shisham wood'. Erm... Not even close. 😅

What ordered, versus what I got!

That's bad but I can't see why anyone would want it even if it looked like the one advertised.

If I'm not wearing my glasses the last thing I'd want to do is have them on display on that contraption. It's an odd present.

It’s awful but the original is awful too.
I really can’t imagine why you would think anyone would like it.

Would be great for my DH, he won't wear varifocals and is always losing one pair of glasses, distance or reading. I might buy him one but not from Amazon.

ancientgran · 07/12/2022 22:20

That one would be great for DH. I'd never have the joy of helping him search the tip that is his desk to find his favourite pen or his glasses. Brilliant.

ShittySanta · 07/12/2022 21:31

I did think that at first. 🤣 It's a thicker depth than a lolly stick. Still fucking well looks like one though!

Tongue depresser? That's thicker than a lollipop stick?

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 07/12/2022 22:20

That is so funny.

But honestly, get a bottle of wine for your secret santa. I'm scarred by our (lovely) neighbours going on cruises and bringing us back souvenirs as a thank you for keeping an eye on their house (the boomerang wine holder springs to mind).

ancientgran · 07/12/2022 22:23

Why do wine drinkers think everyone wants a bottle of wine?

AreOttersJustWetCats · 07/12/2022 22:23

It's obviously dreadful, but tbh the product is pointless anyway! I've worn glasses all my life and one thing I have never felt the need of is a glasses holder. It's so tall and unstable looking... it's guaranteed to get knocked over on your bedside table, damaging the glasses.

We need to drink away the knowledge of the existence of all these ugly glasses-holders.

People lose glasses when they put them down somewhere random/out of the ordinary. This weird product will presumably live somewhere like a bedside table, or a reading table - which will not be where he puts them when he loses them. Honestly, it's pointless.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 07/12/2022 22:25

My colleague got one of those from one of the children last Christmas (we’re teachers). She absolutely loved it, it was one of her favourite presents and still has pride of place on her desk. (She got the version in the first photo obviously, not your one)!

lucegoose22 · 07/12/2022 22:26

I ordered this last year as a silly present for my OH and got something that looked like it had been chomped by woodworm and also not the same colour as the picture!

I was thinking smear test spatula! 😮

Katy4321 · 07/12/2022 22:31

I wear glasses and would like the giraffe on my bedside table, when I take them off at night.
Wine or chocolates is a more boring, but safer secret santa

This! I would much rather get one of the (nice) glasses holders - even though it's not really something I would use (although I do have someone in mind to buy one for, as I'm pretty sure they would use it. They have more than one pair of glasses).

At least a little bit of thought has gone into it. Wine (or chocolates) is the default 'i couldn't be bothered to think of something more interesting' gift.

chaosmaker · 07/12/2022 22:35

Don't get it, my glasses storage is my face!

BeardieWeirdie · 07/12/2022 21:33

I would be so disappointed if you were my secret Santa - a wooden nose glasses holder is utterly pointless. My glasses are either on my head or in a box. Honestly, it would be kindling for the log burner. Give wine.

Yep sorry but agree with this. The recipient has had a lucky escape.

Rogue1001MNer · 07/12/2022 22:39

I want one!

mauvish · 07/12/2022 22:40

Well, the description was accurate -- if that's not handmade (probably by a chained up primate whose opposable thumb has had an accident), I'll eat my hat.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 07/12/2022 22:40

Why do wine drinkers think everyone wants a bottle of wine?

Because you can always give it to someone else/use as a bring a bottle gift/use in cooking!

I hate alcohol so would be equally disappointed, if Secret Santa were something to get disappointed about, which it's not, as long as someone's vaguely tried and not just forgotten you completely or bought something actually offensive.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 07/12/2022 21:54

I love it. Reminds me of one of those cake fails.

Good grief! That’s the stuff of nightmares 🤣🤣

Exactly!

stuntbubbles · 07/12/2022 22:43

“You wear glasses so here’s something horrible to put them on” really is the definition of “vaguely trying”. Wine is boring but like pp said: cooking, regifting, not actively terrible or bizarre.

Gagaandgag · 07/12/2022 22:44

Maybe it’s one you are meant to finish yourself? 😆😆

Trixiefirecracker · 07/12/2022 22:50

Why do people have such awful taste and insist on buying pointless gifts?!
