to feel hurt? Last day of my job

...before moving onto a new job, and I didn't even get a card from my work/team. Nothing. I'm not expecting a gift (I never would, especially in the current climate), but there was literally no acknowledgement that it was my last day. It was so weird. It just got to to the end of the working day and that was it. I'd worked there for 5 years.
AIBU to feel a bit upset?
Would you expect a card or something, or at least your manager to have some nice things to say/well wishes?
I feel hurt and like I've left with a sour taste in my mouth to be honest

Been thinking of you today and I do think you are worth more than the others in your department displayed.
If you do return, just get what you want out of the job, training, leave time etc and don’t put your heart into the workplace. You have no friends there, some may try to be friendly - forgive them but don’t ever forget their names.

When you eventually have a leaving interview have some ‘nice’ comments re their team strength, inclusion etc.
Best wishes and joy for 2023 when the future will be brighter.

Some workplaces are just toxic....carry on....better times ahead

They didn’t like you
could have been worse
i know someone who got a soft toy as a leaving gift
when you pressed it’s tummy it announced “I’m a cow”

ALongHardWinter · 08/12/2022 23:46

I feel your pain OP. The same thing happened to me many years ago when I left the shop that I'd worked in for 7 years. I'd always thought my colleagues were a decent lot, and got on well with them. But on my last day,no one said a word about it,no card, nothing. I was so hurt. It still puzzles me years later.

That's a bit brutal. I'm not sure the OP deserves that.

But you were not close enough to absolutely anyone on the team to ask them why?

I imagine that @ALongHardWinter had sufficient dignity not to do that.

Who does that? Really? It’s your last day, you’re leaving and to your disappointment not one of your colleagues acknowledges it or even says goodbye. The person leaving is hurt, confused and upset. You expect them to turn back and say, “why haven’t you got me a card or wished me well?”.

Although judging by the anecdotes you have posted on this thread, one of which involves you gloating because you got a lovely maternity gift from your colleagues whilst somebody else did not, and the second of which was you announcing that when another colleague of yours left without acknowledgement or good wishes from you and your gang it was because she was (in your view) an awful person, I suspect that you would love the opportunity to kick somebody when they were down. So if the person leaving did follow your advice here and turn back to ask why their exit wasn’t acknowledged, I expect that you would take great pleasure in saying, “everybody hates you” to upset them further with a side serving of public humiliation. Maybe you could make them cry, that would be a win, eh?

Even if you don’t particularly like someone you can do them the courtesy of saying goodbye and wishing them well.

I had this in a job I worked in. I just awkwardly got up from my desk and said ‘er, bye then’ and barely anyone even looked up. I’d told my old team that I was leaving and they were far more chuffed for me as they knew I was off to achieve my dream of going to university.

You must have said something to upset them. I recognise the name.

I don’t understand the ‘I recognise the name’ bit, but here’s what I’m hoping it’s not:

”you have disagreed with me on another thread, or won an argument with me on another thread. Your name is thus inscribed in blood on my list of internet strangers whom I illogically hate. Now I have an opportunity to land one on you, by telling you that you deserved your thoughtless and lazy treatment from your former colleagues”.

Reassure us.

Yes it does seem like some are treated better than others even though you always contribute to collections

Don't get me started on the inequalities of secret Santa

Secret Santa has to be the most passive aggressive form of gift giving I've ever witnessed. I refused to take part in that debacle.
