Writing about her idyllic Christmas..I had no idea about her husband, is she still with him?

She’s still with Joyce.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 21/07/2023 02:51

And Joyce isn't just a drunken thug, although that's bad enough. He is a child sex offender, and she has chosen to stay with him. I seem to remember that part of his argument as to why he shouldn't be sent to prison was that he had the love and support of a good woman, or similar crap.

bingohandjob · 05/12/2023 06:00

Also resurrecting an old thread to say how gobsmacked I was to see Sam Baker have a cosy puff piece chat on her podcast, The Shift, with India Knight I presume to hawk her latest cobbled together book of old articles.

I fully understand that you cannot and should not place the weight of a man's crimes on the woman's shoulders but her support of him means I'll make an exception.

Really disappointed in Sam Baker, though.

FedUpofPeepShow · 05/12/2023 07:03

Lorraine candy has had her on the Postcards from Midlife podcast recently too. I was very surprised

paranoidnamechanger · 05/12/2023 07:22

I was disappointed that she was on the Radio 4 show A Good Read for a THIRD time. Who does she know at the BBC?

bookworm14 · 05/12/2023 08:11

I noticed quite a few journalists/influencers on Instagram promoting her ‘beauty boxes’. It’s baffling. It makes me wonder if they know something we don’t and she actually has left him - but if so surely she would have put out a statement distancing herself from him? How CAN she live with someone who did what he did?

CatherinetheAverage · 05/12/2023 08:25

Yes, it's weird, I saw the book in Sainsburys and paused because the title intrigued me. Then I saw the author name and didn't pick it up, because why would I trust the judgement of anyone who has made such horribly misguided, morally skewed decisions?

paranoidnamechanger · 05/12/2023 08:39

Also - I had a look at the Sunday Times when I was at a friends house the other day and I see she’s not doing her cookery column anymore, just the beauty column. And we know she was replaced by Hadley Freeman last year with the column in the newspaper section which makes me think there’s a new boss at the ST who’s slowly getting rid of her. Or as a PP said maybe advertisers have cottoned on. She’s gone to Substack to publish her stuff - probably needs the income now.

paranoidnamechanger · 05/12/2023 19:06

Just realised that none of her cronies have promoted this latest book of hers…I doubt we’ll see another book of hers again.

shreddies · 05/12/2023 19:41

Her beauty column is just a list of expensive freebies she's been sent. Load of rubbish

Because the British media landscape is built on nepotism and connections, and they all protect each other.

I wonder if people in this thread also don't know about Emma Barnett's dad.

I do know about Emma Barnett’s dad but I think that’s a bit different as she is not in a voluntarily relationship with him in as much as you can’t really help the fact that your dad is involved in the porn industry, and if anything, his job has hindered her career progression, not helped it.

Me too. Really shocked as I thought Lorraine had her finger more on the pulse.

paranoidnamechanger · 05/12/2023 21:56

Lorraine and India were colleagues on The ST, plus Lorraine's podcast is pretty small fry, so it won't be in the slightest bit damaging to her having IK on it.

theduchessofspork · 05/12/2023 22:05

It’s absolutely amazing what connections will do

But I find it extraordinary they haven’t swapped her out by now, even if they didn’t dare finish her contract early

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 05/12/2023 22:10

Just another reason to avoid the Murdoch press. Deeply unpleasant people from top to bottom.

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/12/2023 00:15

Nepo-baby woman puts man before her children, dignity and self respect. In that way Knight is the perfect poster girl for the RW media's view of womanhood.

PastorCarrBonarra · 06/12/2023 00:24

I am not a huge fan of her writing so have no reason to support her, but …I suspect that she’s left him but hasn’t formally announced it. I also suspect that she was in some kind of controlling/coercive partnership and doesn’t feel inclined to make it public knowledge. I’m not basing this on anything really, except maybe the fact that she hasn’t been ostracised by people like Sam and Lorraine, people who are likely to know something about her personal life and feel some sympathy if her circumstances are not as they seem to the public.

As I say, just a hunch!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 06/12/2023 05:17

@PastorCarrBonarra I think she's still with him. They live in a village near us and I haven't heard that they've separated.

He is disgusting but she is appalling as well. The idea of staying with a man who watches videos of babies being raped makes me feel sick.

I stopped reading her articles when she wrote a piece saying that people just needed to “get over” serious depression as though it wasn’t a legitimate illness. Thankfully, Alastair Campbell replied to the article in a published comment and put her right. It really was the lowest of the low journalism designed to up reader figures.

And I thoroughly dislike her writing which is over-emphatic and arch in style.

If you look back through her articles, she writes a lot about alcoholism and giving up drink. And although this is sheer speculation on my part, dysfunctional relationships often have addiction or some other major dependency at their core.

THIS. I work in a media-adjacent profession, as an 'outsider' (immigrant, WC background) and have never not been gobsmacked by the stranglehold that the North & West London privileged liberal dinner party media elite have over both entertainment and news programming.

I'd think it was all a Farage-ist conspiracy if I hadn't actually seen it.

And yes, there is a Posho Code of Omerta.

It's one of the reasons that trust in journalism and msintream broadcast news has collapsed so badly in the UK. 'Ordinary' people can intuit that there's a problem even if they can't put their finger on exactly what it is.

In India and Eric's case i think there may also be substance issues at play. I've never thought her writing was much cop (I remember an entire column about how much she'd started to enjoy eating oily fish, as if that's relevant to....anyone else), but as a woman I feel for her.

EmpressoftheMundane · 06/12/2023 11:11

We pretty much watch the BBC news at 10pm every night. I cannot remember a disgraced Labour MP avoiding prison for baby porn. It feels like this should have been a headline. And natural to mention his well known partner.

Did I just miss it?

No, you didn't miss anything. There was an almost entire media blackout on this case as Julie Burchill pointed out at the time:

The silence of the hacks

Why has the press said so little about the Eric Joyce child porn case?

EmpressoftheMundane · 06/12/2023 12:05

The Times private, but we all fund the BBC, and this was an MP! I feel more betrayed by the BBC.

The BBC has got to be the worst when it comes to protecting and promoting predators. Guardian has form too. But yes I see what you mean!
