Brass neck and connections @WaxingGibbon.

UWhatNow · 14/02/2023 14:29

I am up for your zombie resurrection to shed light. It’s an absolute scandal. I know there is no justification but she’s not even remotely talented. Her writings are a model of stating the bleedin’ obvious every week.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 14/02/2023 14:33

@niandraladesand Emma Barnett is different as she was a child. I've never heard her try to defend her parents. Whereas India Knight has defended EJ, and excused his behaviour on the grounds that he was/is an alcoholic.

I have noticed that she now has a new regular (very mediocre) feature in the Sunday Times on cooking. So, it's not just that she hasn't been fired, she's actually been given more work.

It'a awful.

I thought that too.

LadyEloise1 · 14/02/2023 14:38

And was surprised she was given a new "column"

EverlastingRose · 14/02/2023 14:43

Not the point of the thread I know but that cookery column really is dire. No idea how she keeps being given columns on subjects she clearly has no expertise in.

Not only that, but their relationship was cited as a reason to avoid prison. As a vulnerable minor, with his conviction for sex offenses, India's daughter cannot live under the same roof. I always quite liked mumsy India Knight until I realised there was nothing likeable or mumsy about her. How CAN she?

Looking at the list of incidents he’s been involved in on wiki, I’d wonder if he’s abusive to her

it’s the only non revolting reason I can think as to why she’s still with him

Looking at the number of times he's been arrested (and charged and found guilty) of a range of offences (including cutting off his curfew tag - you'd think would lead to an automatic custodial sentence), I find it even more remarkable that he escaped prison on the child abuse offence.

I note also that there is absolutely no mention of his spouse on his Wiki page....

oldwhyno · 14/02/2023 15:44

holy shit! Thank you for the zombie ressurection. I had no idea. I rarely used to read her articles before as they're banal shite, but that really does have me wondering whether I'll ever even buy the paper again. Not sure what I'd read instead though.

RaininginDarling · 14/02/2023 16:05

Thanks for bumping. I find this story utterly shocking. The child rape apologists at The Times should not be forgotten

Theluggage15 · 14/02/2023 16:11

She’s vile. She wrote a column saying children should stop whining about their mental health during lockdowns. I found it incredible that The Times thought it appropriate that she should be allowed to say anything about the wellbeing of children. Good old nepotism.

SirVixofVixHall · 14/02/2023 16:12

EmmaGrundyForPM · 14/02/2023 13:44

God knows. She wrote an article a few months ago about how creepy Prince Andrew is, which I saw on Twitter. I commented that he possibly wasn't as creepy as the bloke she lived with who downloaded videos of babies being raped, but it disappeared into the ether.

He's a convicted child abuser. I suspect that her teenage daughter was removed because. IK chose to stay with him, but I don't know.

Her dd is 19 now.

DismantledKing · 14/02/2023 16:13

She’s such a shit writer anyway, she must have some real strong connections to have kept that job.

unclebuck · 14/02/2023 16:15

Emma Barnett didn't chose her father! She was born into that situation. IK is how EJ maintains his image. www.spiked-online.com/2020/08/12/the-silence-of-the-hacks/ Julie Birchill summed it up nicely

Dinkleberg · 14/02/2023 16:17

Had never heard of this woman so Googled and my fucking god. How on Earth can a mother shack up with a convicted paedophile?

TransportedCarla · 14/02/2023 16:19

I cancelled my Times subscription over this. When they call and ask me to resubscribe with a special deal as an incentive I always say not while IK continues as a columnist. They just say thank you and hang up.

Julie Burchill is one of the very few people to have the guts to write about it. It’s been hushed up because of IK’s connections as previous posters mentioned.

Companyofwolves · 14/02/2023 16:52

Just read up on this - absolutely vile. I bet none of her readers (doesn’t she write novels too?) know she chooses to live with a violent paedophile. And the closing of ranks in The Times. And the vitriol she spouts about people. Amazing how power & influence works whereas for others this would be fair game. Only glad her daughter no longer lives there.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 14/02/2023 19:07

@SirVixofVixHall he was first arrested for Child Sex Offences in 2018, so 5 years ago. Her daughter would have been 14 at the time.

Why are you trying to defend her?

Unfortunately lots of her readers know, @Companyofwolves. It has been common knowledge for a while. Nothing has been hidden.

I still buy the Times as it is one of the few gender critical newspapers. But it was a difficult decision. I refuse to read Knight's columns which to be fair seem mostly to be free advertising for whatever beauty products she has been gifted with that week.

Can't bear Gyles Coren or read his articles either!

WaxingGibbon · 14/02/2023 19:29

As pp are saying, it’s the hypocrisy of the media establishment protecting one of their own that I find as hard to stomach as the idea of a mother shacking up with a child sex offender.

Can you imagine if we were talking about the partner of a female MP or tv presenter? Their careers and reputations would be ripped apart. But not vile, talentless India Knight - no, she must be looked after.

Bloody love Julie Burchill.

I just commented that her daughter is now a young adult. I know she was living with her father , Andrew O’Hagan, at one point, a couple of years ago maybe ? It was mentioned in an article.

SpotOnMyBot · 14/02/2023 19:34

I also read the Times but have never clicked on her column

It is absolutely shocking and I feel for her daughter

Puppylucky · 14/02/2023 19:46

She hasn't been given more work to clarify. She's been shunted off the main OpEd page to make room for Hadley Freeman ( good call). With low key "cookery" and beauty columns she's now basically been put out to pasture.

winniesanderson · 14/02/2023 20:47

I was aware of this story when it first came to light and still can't understand how anybody could stay with their partner in these circumstances. I'd never be able to separate them from their hideous offences in my mind. It's vile.

StopitSarah · 14/02/2023 20:59

Just looked at Andrew O’Hagan’s insta. I think their daughter now identifies as a boy called Finn
