To think no one can name a single positive benefit of Brexit

Just that really. I'm genuinely curious. There seems to be increasing coverage and evidence of the harm and cost of Brexit. Can anyone point to a positive benefit?

Getting the vaccine developed, approved and distributed more efficiently?

Not that anyone could have foreseen that when voting.

otherwise…no?

LlynTegid · 04/12/2022 07:51

Not having UKIP or Brexit Party members being paid money from the public purse.

LlynTegid · 04/12/2022 07:51

The vaccine one could have happened anyway.

Not having to see Nigel Farage on the tv as much?

At the time the papers were certainly stating lack of red tape here due to brexit meant it all happened quicker than in the EU. Not correct?

RudsyFarmer · 04/12/2022 07:58

I think if any positives are there they won’t show itself for a long time.

I have this feeling that we’re moving into a new era where borders will become important. I think the earth will become more and more unstable politically and when large swathes of people start moving the European Union will start to break up with countries demanding to be able to defend their borders. At that point we’ll have already ironed out our creases and might think to ourselves thank god we got out ten years ago and are somewhat insulated from the upheaval.

knittingaddict · 04/12/2022 07:58

I voted to remain, but the UK having control over it's covid vaccine response was definitely a positive.

I've always thought that the EU was too bureaucratic and slow to respond and I that seems to provide some evidence of that. Not that I needed that evidence.

MissMarpleRocks · 04/12/2022 07:58

Honestly.
Zilch. Nada. Nothing.

Luckily for me, dh & dcs thanks to our ancestry we could apply for EU passports. Eldest has worked abroad for 6 months. Got the job purely due to European passport.

Lollipop999 · 04/12/2022 08:00

Personally no I can’t name any but then I didn’t vote for it in the first place because I suspected this would happen…

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 04/12/2022 08:00

£350 million a week more for the NHS?

Oh, wait…

That was a lie.

Definitely that one

Vallmo47 · 04/12/2022 08:00

Nope it was a huge, expensive decision at the worst time. I do find it mildly amusing watching family members who voted for Brexit argue that it disrupts their travelling Europe as freely as they used to. Duuuh. I even know fellow Europeans who migrated here who STILL voted for it. Hypocrisy - hate it.

This is the only potential benefit I can see. I think we’re heading into a time where borders are highlighted in politics.

LovelyQuiche · 04/12/2022 08:02

God not this again

DontSpeakLatinInFrontOfTheBooks · 04/12/2022 08:03

Fuck all.

Unless you count my ex and his thick as fuck family who were jizzing their knickers about getting blue passports Xmas Hmm

That’s not true though. That was another tory lie. We would have had that regardless.

I do agree that things will become more unstable politically. But I think that will make the EU more important and relevant, not less

That might be the case but we are hopeless at protecting our border so in reality what has been the benefit?

WorriedMutha · 04/12/2022 08:05

Brexit is destroying the Tory party. That's a heck of a fucking benefit.

AgnesNaismith · 04/12/2022 08:05

Ahh ok, take it back. Absolutely nothing 😐

MissMarpleRocks · 04/12/2022 08:05

I still get irrationally (or not) angry with people who voted for it & complain about queues or things. Dicks.
