Because she's saying we won't have to pay for it. What would you do?

Can you afford to buy it second hand? If that still stretches you I would just get a smaller set and on Christmas day say Santa couldn't find the one she wanted.

SheWoreYellow · 03/12/2022 14:43

Tell her some flannel about how there is a limit otherwise children end up with houses full of stuff.

RandomMess · 03/12/2022 14:44

Tell her that you have to send the money to Santa he delivers and that is why down children get very little indeed.

teapotfullofsquash · 03/12/2022 14:45

No help here regarding Santa as mine always have known I buy the presents and he just delivers them. So if something was too expensive they were told it may not be possible. Just here to say, I bought the Harry Potter great hall Lego from onbuy last year and the kids still don't realise it isn't the actual Lego one. I've also bought second hand from eBay/marketplace. Which set is it she would like?

RayKray · 03/12/2022 14:47

Santa presents here are not the big main expensive ones. They come from the person themselves. Santa presents are cheaper, additional things. So if mine want a big expensive present they'd ask me, and we could talk money.

JingsMahBucket · 03/12/2022 14:48

How old is she? It might be time to disabuse her of the concept of Santa.

midgetastic · 03/12/2022 14:49

Santa has to pay for things and he's not rich when there are so many children in the world

LBFseBrom · 03/12/2022 14:49

How old is he? I would tell him that it is fun to pretend but Santa does not exist (if he is over five he probably knows that anyway).

Coralpop · 03/12/2022 14:49

She's found out he isn't real and is testing you!

DenholmElliot11 · 03/12/2022 14:49

just explain in age appropriate language that santa brings the toys but parents still have to pay for them.

MakeWayMoana · 03/12/2022 14:52

They’re expensive in the shops because they take a lot of time and material to make, so you can ask Father Christmas but he’s got a lot of children to get for and only so many elves. Those Lego sets take so long to make there won’t be very many of them, so you might not get it.

frozengoose · 03/12/2022 14:53

Santa only brought a stocking in our house so didn't have this.
Either look 2nd hand or just say it is too big for a Santa gift he can't fit large things in his sack or maybe he has to share gifts out a bit so no one gets very expensive stuff.

Or hope on Christmas Day she is excited enough with what she has got.

Bananastars · 03/12/2022 15:04

She's 9, nearly 10. She wants one of those star wars Lego that cost £600+ which is definitely a big no. We could look for cheaper options or look on eBay but you can never tell whether it's complete until you finish itConfused

Parents have to pay Santa now. Even he is impacted by the cost of living. So she can’t have that set. That’s what I’d say anyway. I’ve always told mine parents fund Santa so they can’t have anything too pricey.

Bananastars · 03/12/2022 15:06

Coralpop · 03/12/2022 14:49

She's found out he isn't real and is testing you!

This is also my guess. But we have a 5 year old daughter as well so didn't want to give anything away.

We told ours that santa bills us for the Christmas presents.

RandomMess · 03/12/2022 15:07

Wouldn't surprise me if it's a test as she knows/suspects the truth already.

DenholmElliot11 · 03/12/2022 15:09

I'm actually quite shocked that a 10 year old asked for a £600 gift knowing her parents couldn't afford it.

Presumably, she's written a list with a few things on. Just get her something else from that list.

RandomMess · 03/12/2022 15:09

Our older ones kept it going for the younger ones.

grayhairdontcare · 03/12/2022 15:10

Santa brought the stocking at my house so I had full control of expectations

melissasummerfield · 03/12/2022 15:10

I was always told, and have also told my dc that we have to send the money to Santa.

Nowhereelsetogo90 · 03/12/2022 15:12

My Mum always told us that she sends the money to Santa.

Lostthefairytale · 03/12/2022 15:13

Santa can't get £600 lego sets he has to have presents for all the children in the world. There are so many ways to explain Santa's limits to children so go with whatever suits best but it's unhealthy for children to not understand there are limits, even at Christmas.

ArcticSkewer · 03/12/2022 15:13

She's teasing you

user1496146479 · 03/12/2022 15:14

OP Is it the AT-AT one? My ds asked for it too plus a phone! Not home happening here!
Santa wrote a letter back here and said it was out his age range unfortunately & he wouldn't be allowed bring it until he was older and to choose something else
