Because she's saying we won't have to pay for it. What would you do?

I thought every child who believed in Santa thought the elves made the toys? That's always what we've told our children, so the whole thing about Santa not being able to afford to buy a £600 Lego set would just be weird.

In our house Santa does bring the big main exciting gifts and Lego is often one of them. But if there's ever anything we can't afford or just can't / don't want to get then I tell the children I've told Santa I don't want him to bring that because there's no space in the house to keep it or some other reason which is often the truth (ie: I don't think they'll actually play with it or the toy isn't very good quality).

When I made my lists to Father Christmas I was always told that it is only a request. He isn't obliged to get you all or any of it! That's the way I will be doing it with my baby DS.

Hi,

Other's have made suggestions but I thought I'd add mine. I have 4 kids all approximately 3 years apart. I kept the oldest believing for a while longer by doing visits to a Father Christmas that I'd scoped out before and who knew about her friends, what she did at school and what she wanted etc. She was 11 before I knew she no longer believed. But at this point her youngest sister was only 2 so I came up with things that adults do at Christmas (like put out the stockings) and that they only way she would be included was if she kept quiet. So the next Christmas she still didn't join in the adult things but we made a quiet fuss saying that next year, if she kept it secret this year, she would be allowed to help. It worked perfectly and I've only just had it confirmed that my youngest (13) doesn't believe (phew). It's hard work but it's so wonderful. I've always kept ALL of the presents hidden even those that are from us/uncles/grandparents etc. They all magically appear Xmas morning. The older ones LOVED having a role to play (putting all the presents in piles at the bottom of the Xmas tree), that they were 'adults' now etc. No one ever said anything.

@Bananastars
Might be an idea to look on the Nextdoor app. They have free/buy/sell pages. It's odd you should ask that as there's a guy in my area of Surrey who's adult sons left all their Lego in the loft and told dad he can sell them and keep the cash. There was the Millennium Falcon and other SW sets and the guy makes them up before selling them to make sure all bits are there and working. They really are in brand new condition, boxes and leaflets all there in A1 condition.
Now he's got Lego machinery like diggers and grabbers on the site and they have mechanical working parts. He sells the large sets for about £35. I've seen the photos. 5⭐
I can post photos if you like.

Here are some sets. Motor bikes are £9 for the two.

The point is a £600 set is not suitable for a 9 year old child. They are sold as 18+ because little kids just don't have the patience for them.

Nobody who has a £600 lego set is going to sell it for £35. You might find a much smaller kids version for that price.

LoisLane66 · 05/12/2022 16:26

I think postage is about £4.50 signed for for the large sets, either made up or pieces sealed in plastic envelopes in the boxes.
No, never met or spoken to the guy but he and his wife (in their early 80s) live in my local area. Info just in case you think I'm on a selling mission. I'm not.

The most expensive one I have pictured is a grabber/digger for £39

I tweaked the Santa legend when son said I gave crap presents and he gave great ones. 😞

Santa brought the stocking at my house so I had full control of expectations

Same here in my house, we have a sack woth his name on it and what fits in there comes from Santa, it is not big enough for a large lego set 😇🤣
