Have namechanged...

He collects things, these specific things. I hate them. They are all over his computer room and i mean ALL over, everywhere, not a space on the wall.

Boxes of them in the attic, random ones all over my house. Piles of them boxed. Opened. Doing f**k all but taking up space.

He cant go out shopping without buying one.

I fucking hate them.

Range from about £4 - £100 in value,

but he has hundreds,

And we discussed it the other night, I told him it was getting ridiculous.

We are on a tight budget and we goes out and gets 2, and says they were only £4 each -

YES BUT WHEN YOU BUY THEM CONSTANLY ITS EXPENSIVE!

So we talked and he agreed it was getting out of hand and we didnt have the money for it.

Anyway I needed some money in my paypal to pay for something and he told me to go on his account and transfer some.

So I did and noticed the latest transaction (i swear I wasnt snooping, it didnt even occour to me anything had gone on!)

and ways reciept for payment for $140!!! for one of these things!!!

almost £70!!!! After we had agreed no more!!

I just went down stairs told him I knew, he looked shifty and said it was the last one! (yeah right!!) and just came back up here.

I am in tears.

Im so pissed off. I dont know what to do anymore, its too much

What are they?

And of course, you need to put them all on ebay at once.

cluelessnchaos · 31/01/2008 21:20

YANBU, sounds like compulsive behaviour. What are they, can you sell them on?

binkleandflip · 31/01/2008 21:21

intrigued

FumingJustFuming · 31/01/2008 21:21

I can't do that they are his. Its a harmless hobby ... well it was now its just too much.

hunkermunker · 31/01/2008 21:21

What are they?

Is he obsessive about anything else?

And what would happen if you sold them?

PellMell · 31/01/2008 21:21

So does he admit to having a problem?
Silly bugger.
I would be fuming too.

cluelessnchaos · 31/01/2008 21:22

Could you not ebay the last one that he def should not have bought

luckylady74 · 31/01/2008 21:22

put them all in one room/shed first.
get him out of the house more to do other stuff - obsession is bad.
WHAT ARE THEY?

hunkermunker · 31/01/2008 21:22

OK, what would happen if HE sold them, at your request, because you need the money and collecting things that just lie about and aren't useful in any way is a bit tragic?

FumingJustFuming · 31/01/2008 21:22

Hmmm Im not sure he sees it as a 'problem' as its not drugs / alcohol / gambling ect.

He wouldn't sell them.

I know he wouldn't.

At best he would box them up and put them in the attic.

missingtheaction · 31/01/2008 21:24

no it's not a harmless hobby. it's an obsession - compulsive buying of stuff and just keeping it in boxes or hoarding it is the beginnings of/sign of a Bit Of An Issue. and it is driving a huge wedge between you and potentially causing financial hardship. hoarding is often a sign of insecurity. is there something else going on?

btw, if you are married they are joint property...

tyaca · 31/01/2008 21:25

oh please please please tell us. or i will start a thread called is it unreasonable to give only half of a story???

Really though, what is it he collects?

It'd drive me mad too, if you have no space for whatever it is and not enough disposable income to cover it, he has to stop it. YANBU at all.

PellMell · 31/01/2008 21:27

I imagine that you see it as a problem and in that case it is (if he is lying about what he is spending)
I wonder why people collect stuff-does he believe the collection to be profitable?

Hecate · 31/01/2008 21:27

If you don't tell us, we are going to have to start to guess

And we all know where that will take this thread!!!!

emj23 · 31/01/2008 21:28

I was going to guess at porn mags, but they wouldn't be valuable, I suppose.

BeeEm · 31/01/2008 21:28

is it matchbox cars?
and no you are not unreasonable. it does sound a bit compulsive. after all if it was you and shoes (can cost around the same) it would indeed be a problem

ravenAK · 31/01/2008 21:28

Could you impose agree a spending limit?

Dh is driven mad by me buying a dozen or so books a month (mostly because I read them once & we've run out of walls to put shelves on! ), so I've agreed to a 'one in, one out' policy, & to limit spending (he spends a similar amount on guitars - same deal, one in, one out).

camlivandjj · 31/01/2008 21:28

the suspence is killing me

FumingJustFuming · 31/01/2008 21:28
