Firstly, I am Jewish, no connection to Israel, I'm not Israeli (not that I need to qualify my post with that) and have lived in the UK all my life.

So, after his recent rantings about loving Hitler, Nazis and the holocaust (torontosun.com/entertainment/celebrity/i-like-hitler-kanye-west-doubles-down-on-hate-speech-on-alex-jones-infowars-show)

I'm feeling very scared and scared for my kids, especially reading recent threads like this:

Kanye is very influential and popular with the younger generation and my Jewish children are already getting more racist comments said to their faces without any fear of retribution. I am genuinely scared for their physical safety. Jews shouldn't have to live in fear, its 2022 ffs not the 1930s!

Doesn't everyone view him as a toxic lunatic these days? I wouldn't have thought he's still influential.

Even Trump said Kanye was crazy when they met a couple of weeks ago.

They put Kanye under emergency psychiatric evaluation a few years ago and released him a couple of days later. I genuinely believe he needs to be committed again. Yes there’s a risk he could use his fortune to sue but it’s better for everyone including himself.

Just so we are clear he didn’t wear blackface once. In the sketch shows they mocked Jason Lee using racist iconography.

In any case blackface once is too much as is any racist incident. Kanye is unwell and people aren’t going to do deals with him unless they themselves are racist. It’s been well known that Kanye holds anti black thoughts for years but it is interesting that it is only now threads like this appear on mumsnet. I notice not one person on this thread has said he should still have his job unlike on the thread about Lady Susan.

kanyes comments are disgusting, but I really don’t think he has any influence over anyone anymore. He’s just seen as a joke.

As for your children, I wouldn’t worry too much about them - My brother is 14 and very into rap and urban culture and could barely tell you who he is.

I meant there's nothing I can do about the fact I won't be here to see it when it gets to its worst, as in I'm old I'll probably be dead which maybe a good thing that I'll miss it but shame that involves me dying. I realise that was a bit unclear and I'm being morbid.

I can't really call out antisemitism in real life, as in where I live, as I don't know any Jewish people here, there is no synagogue unless you travel to the nearest city over 30 miles away and definitely nothing like a Jewish school. I used to live in a city with a big Jewish community but apparently that has drastically reduced as people seem to have moved to London or Israel, probably other places too. The Jewish school that was local to me has a majority of Muslim students now. It is still a Jewish school though.

There isn't a big non white community here and we do get racism, DH isn't white and I am so we aren't immune to that.

Many dozens of posters will probably vouch for VladmirsPoutine and I'd be surprised if some of these posts aren't deleted by Admin.

OP YANBU. I think it is very naive to dismiss his influence. I see lots of FB comments on news stories about him that are supporting him and/or denying what he is saying is anti-Semitic. Just because it is obvious to you and me that he has lost the plot, it doesn't mean everyone sees that.

Baddiel was absolutely wrong to don blackface, it was utterly repugnant. That doesn’t mean he is wrong about antisemitism.

Firstly not all anti-semites are white supremists. They aren't even all white.

Secondly if you are racist/antisemetic you will often use anything to support your hatred, doesnt matter who. It's just confirmation bias. The fact he's black even adds to this as you can say "I can't be racist a black man agrees". Or even "even black people hate you' if you are a white supremacist.

Anti semitism isn't just your very obvious white supremacy style racism. Most racism is much more low level and insidious than this. Many people won't even consider themselves racist or anti-semetic (as evident on this thread)

All racism and prejudice is wrong, I can't see why we need to divide them. We should resist all of it, hate gets us nowhere.

There's really not that many BAME people in British adverts, probably a lower percentage than the general population. The fact you seem to think there is says a lot. As I was saying in my previous post many people don't even realise they are racist

I do think anti- semitism is a real problem. My eldest is at a uni with not many Jewish students and he has been exposed to some horrific anti semitism, as well as some wonderful support from students who have never met a Jewish person before

we are 5th generation british Jews and far from religious yet I’m not sure that there’s a future for my children and grandchildren in this country: whilst I’m vehemently opposed to the current Israel administration i feel strongly that my kids need to learn modern Hebrew because I always have at the back of my mind that England might not be always be a safe place for them. I shouldn’t feel like that but I do.?

I am not Jewish and I don't understand why people are anti semitic. Elon Musk has a lot to answer for in letting him and Trump back on Twitter. It's turning into a cesspit of the hard right.
