Susan Hussey has resigned. Philip was coming out with similar comments in public all his life, yet there was no move to get rid of him. AIBU to think this is more royal hypocrisy?

I'm sure Wills and Kate will be delighted to have this the focus of discussion with US journalists today.

yes 🤭

its strange how she says in my culture we respect our elders

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 01/12/2022 08:02

Ngozi Fulani is on the radio right now. A couple of her answers:

’I wondered whether she had a problem hearing but realised there was nothing wrong with her perception. I was brought up to respect elders so I didn’t know how to respond. This was her trying to make me renounce my British citizenship - that was very clear to me.’

‘I am very proud of my African heritage but this is trying to make me feel unwelcome in my own space ‘

Asked whether Hussey’s resignation was the right outcome: ‘I would have preferred this [the interrogation] not to have happened at all. I would want the focus to remain on the women who are abused, which is why we were there.’

LizzieSiddal · 01/12/2022 08:03

Ngozi Fulani Is on R 4 now taking about this. She said Lady Hussey asked her again and again, “ where are you really from” and it went on for 5 minutes!

Anonymouseposter · 01/12/2022 08:03

Lady Susan Hussy was very rude and persistent. She should know better. She’s a person not an “old duck”.

She’s loving every second of this, exactly what she wanted.

I give it weeks until there’s a picture of her in the press with MM.

What's strange about it?

TodayInahurry · 01/12/2022 08:05

Woman asked another woman a perfectly reasonable question. Woman gets upset and shots racism. More attacks on Royal Family.

Amazing detailed recall of the conversation. Makes me suspect it was recorded.

Any recording would never be released as the woman would never be allowed back in the palace.

WifeMotherWorker · 01/12/2022 08:08

Was it really a racist exchange between a woman dressed in African tribal clothes and an 83 year old woman asking her where she is from?
Or was the 83 year old race baited by an anti-monarchist?

Willmafrockfit · 01/12/2022 08:09

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 01/12/2022 08:04

What's strange about it?

what culture?
she is happy to talk about culture on radio 4

anyway, i should imagine lady susan hussey is a nasty piece of work

TheKeatingFive · 01/12/2022 08:10

Woman asked another woman a perfectly reasonable question.

Go back and read the exchange again. Is your reading comprehension really that poor?

The issue is that she refused to accept the answer given, kept banging on about it, indicating her racial prejudices and was immensely patronising throughout.

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 01/12/2022 08:12

i relate some of Fulani’s dignified responses and this is your takeout from it? Dear god! Where did you learn to hate total strangers?

Changechangychange · 01/12/2022 08:14

Lightowl · 01/12/2022 05:19

@Changechangychange What “different way of life” do you think somebody from Hackney has?

She chose to wear traditional dress to reflect her culture, safe to say the origins of it do not lie in Hackney. If you don’t want to be asked about it then why advertise it? I’d put money on Sarah Hussey not having asked that question if she was in a suit.

And her choice of dress has what impact on her “way of life” exactly? Do you think she sends her kids out to collect water from the Thames each morning in a nod to her roots?

She is also quite clear that she isn’t African, so I’m really not sure what conclusions you are drawing from her wearing “traditional dress” - traditional to where? Hackney?

She’s choosing to wear clothes that she thinks looks good, she isn’t wearing “the traditional clothes of her people” or whatever you seem to be suggesting.

I ask people with different skin colour from me or a different accent where they are from a lot. Im genuinely interested when people tell me about different ways of life and culture.

Of someone was clearly sidestepping your question you'd stop though? I mean right from the start it was clear she didn't want to give any personal info to the lady.

I'm asked all the time where I am from and say I'm from x but my parents are from y. I don't mind the question, I'm not ashamed and don't have problems feeling like I don't belong or feeling 'othered' as lots here like to call it, I'm pretty self assured. I think you'd have to be living under a rock though to not know that lots of people are really sensitive from what ever reason about their heritage and if someone sidesteps the question by answering a completely different one it's a pretty big sign that they are sensitive about it and you are probably best to leave them be and either chat about some other inane topic like the weather or move on to someone more open.

Livingtothefull · 01/12/2022 08:18

This thread makes really depressing reading due to the numbers of racists - and apologists for racists - on it. If there is really this amount of skewed thinking out there then we are in trouble. I can only presume that the monarchists are out in force, who will not countenance any criticism of the RF or anyone associated with them - it has to be the other person's fault regardless of the evidence.

'My comment was deleted which goes to show how white voices are being silenced.'

This post just took my breath away tbh. Is this really how some people think?

Americano75 · 01/12/2022 08:20

Some of the responses on here have knocked me sick. God help us if we think we've evolved in any real way.

Henuinequest · 01/12/2022 08:21

Another nail in the coffin of these idiotic leeches.
sex scandals, taking dodgy money from Saudis, racism, sex offenders,
these people aren’t fit to represent us.

Henuinequest · 01/12/2022 08:24

‘I ask people with different skin colour from me or a different accent where they are from a lot. ‘
Does that include when they have London accents? My non- whiten friends say this happens to them all the time.
where are you from? Manchester.
no REALLY from. I was born in Manchester
i mean ORIGINALLY from…
still fucking Manchester is the answer to that!

Lunar270 · 01/12/2022 08:31

Can someone more knowledgeable advise if this is really 'tribal' dress, as some PP's have claimed please?

Sounds like the apologists are making a big thing and an excuse for the interrogation but smacks of BS to me.

When I heard it I thought oh you stupid woman, what planet are on, what decade are you in? Her age is no excuse for such bad behaviour. I’m not going to tarnish others though because of this one stupid woman.

A lot. Everything actually
