Racism in the Royal Family

Susan Hussey has resigned. Philip was coming out with similar comments in public all his life, yet there was no move to get rid of him. AIBU to think this is more royal hypocrisy?

A quick look at previous tweets makes it clear that this person has a very hostile view of the RF which does beg the question why she accepted the invitation in the first place given her hostility to the institution

I wonder if they background check for these kinds of antagonistic views before inviting someone into BP

It was an event about violence against women which her charity works on. Why should she not go?

I hope so too because Lady SH's racism was fucking disgraceful. No one should be subjected to that, nevermind a guest at the Palace.

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 30/11/2022 23:50

Well, it seems that this encounter was indeed very fruitful for some regarding free publicity, personal advancement and raising of profile.

What a disgusting thing to say. Especially about someone who is dedicating her life to helping victims of abuse. Not much ‘personal advancement’ in that, is there?

BlueWalnut · 30/11/2022 23:52

But to me, this sorry story says it all. The reception was about violence against women and girls. What a way to show how unimportant this is by asking her where she was from, like there wasn't slightly more critical things to discuss 🤦

I was going to report certain comments for racism then I thought no, I'm not reporting the latest racist comments I've seen on this thread... let us all see the who the racists are rather than hide them... they are showing us who they are.

Lunar270 · 30/11/2022 23:52

m00rfarm · 30/11/2022 23:28

Yes

Yes, you're one of the naïve ones I've described aren't you.

antelopevalley · 30/11/2022 23:53

I am sadly not surprised at the racism on this thread. But when I see the comments that are still standing on the thread it does make me thing that what was deleted must have been really blatant.

Televivi · 30/11/2022 23:53

cakeorwine · 30/11/2022 23:08

'Where are you from' is a loaded and intrusive question in a multicultural society. Why? Because you are hinting that they are not one of us based on how they look or speak

Couldn't it also just be a question to see what brought them to your 'neck of the woods'? I think it's an unusual question if you aren't carrying on a relationship - but say you were a work colleague or developing a friendship, finding out a bit more about someone, and telling them a bit more about you all helps. A way of building a relationship, making connections?

When your life, your family, your work, your friends, your home is in the UK and you happen to have an accent or be a POC, it won't just be @cakeorwine asking 'where are you from' to satisfy her curiosity' but person after person, sometimes several in a day! Can you really not understand that while we are buys working, rushing around and managing life, we don't want to be stopped in our tracks to explain where our grandmothers, grandfathers or parents are from, where we were born and why we are where we are?We are just getting on with our life and if we feel like telling you we will, please don't ask, it's presumptuous. Ask stuff that is actually relevant to make connections.

Aren't you the poster who hates the idea of helping homeless people? Doesn't surprise me your a massive racist as well.

Passthecheeseboard · 30/11/2022 23:54

I think the royal family has had its day tbh, should be abolished now the queen has died… And it sadly doesn’t surprise me that there’s racism in the royal family

HeraldicBlazoning · 30/11/2022 23:54

Winterscomingagain · 30/11/2022 19:12

I think an old lady asked questions she'd have been better advised not to.

An old lady who isn't a member of the royal family.

Oh for goodness sake, were you there?

I think the papers have handled this badly. Leave the poor woman alone.
She not a publicity seeking person, unlike the complainant
She was probably making polite conversation with people she didn’t know, and has done this hundreds of times before, and they decided to take offence
Shes an older lady, who knows the state of her hearing, health.
And it’s all blown out of proportion.

Lunar270 · 30/11/2022 23:52

Yes, you're one of the naïve ones I've described aren't you.

So use this as an opportunity to educate then. Many people posting are open to hear how things are for other people. Don’t waste the chance by calling them naive or making them feel they have to defend their position. So many people have expressed their feelings clearly but many others have just resorted to swearing.

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/11/2022 23:58

Oh for goodness sake we're you there?

No, but other women were and said the comments were racist and offensive.

ilovesooty · 30/11/2022 23:58

jtaeapa · 30/11/2022 20:23

If the person making this comment had been 43yo, then I would agree that it was horrendously racist and unacceptable. But she is 83yo, so I don't think she can be condemned in the same way as a 43yo for making these comments. Unless she is a bully (which we have no idea of) it's likely she was trying to make conversation in a clumsy way and has taken a serious bashing and loss of role for it. She might actually want to go and die because of the national humiliation, if it is the case that she was trying to be friendly. On the other hand, she could be a bully who's finally been called out.

She was born before WW2 even started. She is from a completely different era to 99% of us.

I've a close friend older than she is who wouldn't dream of having a conversation like that.

If she's incapable of controlling her behaviour and converersation it reflects badly on the King's judgement that he deemed it appropriate to give her a public facing role where she'd be interacting with a diverse range of people.

antelopevalley · 30/11/2022 23:59

@CloverCoolCalm I think you are probably right that she will have been racist before to guests and they kept it quiet. I am glad this was made public. That is the beauty of social media. It is harder to shut people up.

Televivi · 01/12/2022 00:00

Oh for goodness sake, were you there?

The palace investigated and found that Lady Susan had been racist. We don't need to have been there. At least she had the good grace to resign.

antelopevalley · 01/12/2022 00:00

And she was incredibly rude. I would expect people at an event to be professional, gracious and very polite. She wasn't. Very trashy behaviour

thehorsehasnowbolted · 01/12/2022 00:00

No, but other women were

Who are they? Who are the witnesses? Nobody was there from MN and still posters are happy to pile on an old woman because they have made up their minds about her intentions

CloverCoolCalm · 01/12/2022 00:02

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/11/2022 23:58

Oh for goodness sake we're you there?

No, but other women were and said the comments were racist and offensive.

And what was in it for them to do so ? And why decide to be so public about it.

Ive had people be rude to me, but I don’t run to the newspapers.. I have no agenda of course

thehorsehasnowbolted · 01/12/2022 00:02

That is the beauty of social media. It is harder to shut people up.

Is this ironic? Have you heard of cancelling by the angry mob?

CloverCoolCalm · 01/12/2022 00:03

What rubbish, and not what I said at all, as you know

Mayorquimby2 · 01/12/2022 00:05

Racist woman hires racist staff who then inevitably does something racist.

Then their racist supporters come out to justify it.

Buuut the royal family do so much good for the country 😂

And now you're playing stupid. That's 2/3. One more and I'll call bingo!

thehorsehasnowbolted · 01/12/2022 00:08

Aren't you the poster who hates the idea of helping homeless people?

It is apparent that you either didn't read the full thread or regretfully did not manage to comprehend what it was about
