Things in RECENT times you can’t quite believe we’re seen as ‘ok’

The Jeremy Kyle Show. Middle class man shouts at poor people who aren’t terribly bright, for not being perfect humans. So pleased it ended.

On X Factor and BGT when they used to show ‘funny’ auditions of people who believed they had talent but really didn’t so got laughed at. They then brought them back for the final to do a humiliating routine live so they could be laughed at more.

Supernanny. Childless woman who can barely speak properly pulls lemon faces, tells parents they’re shit and Instills sudden and sharp changes in the child’s home where actual camera are focussing on them when they’re distraught and upset

Sun sea and suspicious parents. Mum and dad spying on their adult children from a rooftop in Greece whilst said child gets off with a stranger. CREEPY!

Errr... I don't think this was normal.

This was NOT normal. I was driving in the 80's, and so were all of my mates - NO ONE did so without a licence, NO ONE.

I wouldn't class TV shows from the 70s as recent.

But some people WOULD call it recent. The word ‘recent’ doesn’t have an exact definition.

Half caste is still very common in Cornwall! I didn’t even realise it wasn’t ok until I moved away and I’m mixed race myself!

Well who decides these things anyway? Probably the same person who decided that the letter H would be dropped from the word Yoghurt. And no one ever gets the memo. Which is why so many old people always seem to drop a clanger, because they haven't been able to keep up with what is deemed "acceptable" this decade.

Ifeelsuchafool · 02/12/2022 09:29

Shopping in pyjamas!

Stewball01 · 02/12/2022 09:38

Visible bra straps in our time were cheap. Bras didn't show.

What does Jo Frost’s lack of children have to do with anything? It doesn’t make her any less qualified a nanny.

Totally agree.

There's a few disparaging comments from people claiming to have XYZ 'childcare qualifications' disagreeing with Suppernanny's methods- conveniently ignoring the fact that the results clearly spoke for themselves!

Calm, contented children and much happier home lives for the whole family. I know who I'd be going to for advice if I was a frazzled parent.

And for those saying the kids were being 'expoilted'- isn't it far more cruel to allow children to grow up in to potentially unruly teens and beyond without addressing clear behavioural issues, causing them major disadvantage? Not to mention the misery it would be causing to parents, siblings and classmates in the meantime.

I do worry we now live in a world that values 'qualifications' and certificates more than experience and common sense.

A quite large proportion of the whole world lining up to have some experimental soup injected into their and their children’s veins.

Gingernan · 02/12/2022 10:44

I hate those escape to the country type shows. Such spoiled people when we are all tightening our belts.I do have a bit of an axe to grind I guess,as I left the country at 17 and have since lived in the town or suburbia.Since I left (1966) the country changed from a place ok for rich or poor, with shops, doctors, schools and buses! to a place inaccessible if if you were old, poor, non driver. You didn't have to be a yummy mummy with a land rover.
Anyway these programmes...retired people who are downsizing to, oh gosh poor souls, only 3 bedroom characterful cottages with massive gardens and the wife always moans about the kitchen being too small for the entertaining they are going to do. Or the bedrooms are too pokey , or how awful it is not to have a room for the Wellington boots to live. They are getting on, how are they going to cope with massive gardens?
It's a bit miserable for us mere mortals to watch. On the other hand, maybe they are all actors?
Also, how many life coaches do we need in the world?

marktayloruk · 02/12/2022 10:56

Ever heard of freedom of choice? There are 16 and 17 year olds who genuinely want to get married and this right shouldn't be taken from them because of minorities who believe in forced marriage.

marktayloruk · 02/12/2022 10:59

How they dress is their business. I don't believe in school

Blocked · 02/12/2022 11:00

That Band Aid song was on the radio this morning, do they know it's Christmas...how is this still being played, it is very problematic when you listen to it Confused

marktayloruk · 02/12/2022 11:01

Since I assume you're still alive ..

marktayloruk · 02/12/2022 11:02

Uniforms anyway.

The vaccines aren't "experimental" FGS. They were able to develop them so quickly, because of the sheer amount of money thrown at it. Many vaccines takes much longer to come to fruition, due to lack of funding. Please educate yourself.

Slig · 02/12/2022 11:09

That this is what passed as a reasonable Christmas decoration for young children to make!

Flammable tinsel (no flame retardant in those days) and some candles. I mean what could possibly go wrong?

You think a child is mature enough to make that kind of commitment?!

You should take your own advice there dearie

Not to expect to see a GP within 48 hours of request and not being able to get through to make request in the first place.

RaggedBlousedPhilanthropist · 02/12/2022 11:52

Punishing bed wetting children over the age of 3 or at the very least making them sleep in a wet bed.

Thank goodness night pants for older children are available now.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 02/12/2022 10:29

Yes homophobia 🤦🏼‍♀️

To be fair, homosexuality was rife too.

It was just that because society and the government were homophobic that LGB people were forced to suffer in silence and couldn’t be themselves.

Dotjones · 02/12/2022 11:57

Until 1993 you could buy used schoolgirls' underwear from vending machines in Japan. They banned it but people still report seeing these machines occasionally even now.

Mybumlooksbig · 02/12/2022 12:00

The people who put every second of theirs (and usually their children's,too) lives on SM.
I always wonder how will the children feel as they grow up knowing they have a parent whose publicly shared 30 photos of them a day since they were born??

Not to mention the contents of their nappies and potties 😮

In current times - online accounts where the main focus is the child/children. Like mummy blogs/vlogs/you tube channels. Stuff like Ryan's World. No child is old enough to consent to have themselves and their lives online so much like that. They are exploited for cash. The relationship between parent and child gets ruined, as the parent often treats the child like an employee/simply a means to get rich. Not to mention that they are often followed by thousands and thousands of predators, some of which have no qualms about messaging them with vile, vile things.

We are going to see more and more of these children speak out as they reach adulthood, and I expect there will even be laws introduced in the near future to prevent it from happening.
