Things in RECENT times you can’t quite believe we’re seen as ‘ok’

The Jeremy Kyle Show. Middle class man shouts at poor people who aren’t terribly bright, for not being perfect humans. So pleased it ended.

On X Factor and BGT when they used to show ‘funny’ auditions of people who believed they had talent but really didn’t so got laughed at. They then brought them back for the final to do a humiliating routine live so they could be laughed at more.

Supernanny. Childless woman who can barely speak properly pulls lemon faces, tells parents they’re shit and Instills sudden and sharp changes in the child’s home where actual camera are focussing on them when they’re distraught and upset

Sun sea and suspicious parents. Mum and dad spying on their adult children from a rooftop in Greece whilst said child gets off with a stranger. CREEPY!

Being surgically altered to fit an ideal and society convincing us it is for us that we do this

What does Jo Frost’s lack of children have to do with anything? It doesn’t make her any less qualified a nanny.

Well said.

This "You don't have kids so you don't know squat" attitude really pisses me off.

I note that those are all television programmes. If you want to go down that route, you could have various shows where children sit on (non-related) adults' knees, Miss World, Benny Hill ...

How about things in current times that we cannot believe are okay? Looking at your phone when eating dinner in a restaurant, instead of concentrating on the conversation of the person you are with ... Visible bra straps ... Spraying deodorant under your shirt whilst sat at your office desk ....

I'm old and grumpy Grin

Visible bra strap.... Jezzz how old are you. So what if a bra strap is showing!!!

Tabitha888 · 02/12/2022 02:53

I will say too much lip filler, why do people think looking like you had an allergic reaction looks good!! 🫠

Child marriage (age 16 years with parental consent), but the law has just been changed I believe.

JamSandle · 02/12/2022 02:59

How invasive technology and the Internet have become in daily life.

Child marriage (age 16 years with parental consent), but the law has just been changed I believe.

In some countries the age difference between men and women is sick! In Guinea for example the legal age is 21 for men, 17 for women, or 14 where tradition permits it. In Sudan its 10 for a girl and 15 for a boy. The vast majority either has 21 for boy and 18 for girl, or 18 and 16. Why are women legally allowed to marry younger?

Don't look at me. We elected Donald Trump as our President. Well, WE did not, our Electors did. Which says some really horrible things about how we hold elections for President, and the people who vote. He's been gone almost two years now, and we're still dealing with the fallout.

sashh · 02/12/2022 03:44

iloveeverykindofcat · 01/12/2022 06:41

@sashh once an older colleague who'd been at the university for decades said to me 'When I started in this office, I had my ashtray on the left, beer on the right, and my dog under the desk.'

My GP used to have his dog under the desk. A lovely old spaniel who just stayed in her basket.

I don't think many people even noticed she was there.

I once asked if I could take it for a walk round the car park and he said yes.

That was fine I had a little walk (I have arthritis so it was more of a hobble) and then let her back, she went straight to the Dr's door and back under the desk.

Apparently another patient complained and he was sent on a training course. Personally I thought she should have been an emotional support dog for the surgery.

Merryweather80 · 02/12/2022 04:03

@XenoBitch we must have been at the same school. Teachers used to make sure you’d had a ‘proper shower’ not just flicked a few drops of water on your arms. (Shudders)

Covid restrictions

This.
Bring forced to wear a mask.
Not allowed to meet friends or family.
Unbelievable this was a a recent as last year.

Butterflywing · 02/12/2022 04:41

Women who believe they are ungroomed or dirty or body shamed to have to shave off their public hair down below to make sure they look prepubescent for the men in their life!!!?

This brainwashing runs really deep into the psyche of the majority of women but all advertising and social pressure that pervades women into believing they cannot be beautiful and perfect as nature intended them to be.

FlissyPaps · 30/11/2022 18:50

I’m not saying it was normal. I’m saying it was seen as ‘ok’ since most of my family members and their friends would drive around uninsured and without licenses before the 21st century.

I questioned my mum about it once and she said “oh everyone did it back then”.

I really, really don’t think ‘everyone did it back then’. Maybe that’s what your mum told herself to justify it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Exactly this! The parents who called her in had kids and they knew very little - hence calling her in 😂

HotChoxs · 02/12/2022 05:10

I'd take Jeremy Kyle back if we could go back to 2012.

This will horrify even more regarding smoking. The day room in pre-natal and maternity smoking was allowed in there up until the late 80s. That is where pregnant moms used to go for a smoke.

Smoking on the wards and by the nursing staff also was allowed up until the late 70s, my nursing friend was telling me last night.

Mummyoflittledragon · 02/12/2022 07:44

Mental health not being taken seriously with tragic results, worse in the US. Mass shootings as a result. This week a 10 year old boy shot and killed his mum because she wouldn’t buy her a VR headset. The next morning he logged onto her Amazon account and bought it for himself.

Government by media. Machiavellian characters eg Boris Johnson scapegoating certain members of his cabinet. People going to prison even now whilst he quaffed champagne.

00100001 · 02/12/2022 07:44

That's 40+ years ago.... Not exactly recent...

HotChoxs · 02/12/2022 07:46

That people used to use myspace, bebo, and friendsreuinted

Cramming kids into the back of the car, the more the merrier.
Young kids driving tractors and balancing on farm machinery. How none of my cousins got killed is a miracle.

My mum used to help out at school and often took us to netball matches. We would be sat on knees, in the footwells and in the boot!
I also once travelled down the m6 in the back of an empty cattle trailer! Confused

You’re so right. When homosexuality was rife, gay people couldn’t marry, men could legally rape their wives and you could get sacked for being pregnant.

The good old days

WTAF?!
"when homosexuality was rife"?
did you mean to say "homophobia was rife"?!

I think it's obvious from the context that they meant homophobia

Thought of another - being allowed to purchase clothes that resembled an underage school girl in a sex shop. I don’t think this is allowed anymore?

Bras are underwear, emphasis on the ‘under’. Ie. They were worn beneath your clothing, not being on shown.

If I see a woman with her bra straps showing, I just think she's really not very "put together". It's just lazy. I bought a beautiful halter neck dress recently. I will only wear it with a strapless bra or stick on bra. It wouldn't look as classy otherwise. I mean, if you can't select the right underwear in life, what does that say about you in general?
