The Jeremy Kyle Show. Middle class man shouts at poor people who aren’t terribly bright, for not being perfect humans. So pleased it ended.

On X Factor and BGT when they used to show ‘funny’ auditions of people who believed they had talent but really didn’t so got laughed at. They then brought them back for the final to do a humiliating routine live so they could be laughed at more.

Supernanny. Childless woman who can barely speak properly pulls lemon faces, tells parents they’re shit and Instills sudden and sharp changes in the child’s home where actual camera are focussing on them when they’re distraught and upset

Sun sea and suspicious parents. Mum and dad spying on their adult children from a rooftop in Greece whilst said child gets off with a stranger. CREEPY!

I have no interest in Jo Frost's class or status as a mother (or not). I taught for years before having my own children and believe I was able to give parents good advice based on a considerable numbers of years training in childhood development.

That said, I do take issue with her behaviour management techniques. Her entire approach is based on behaviourist conditioning. It's commonly used to train dogs. It is also proven (in peer reviewed papers) to cause children psychological distress.

So it’s no longer about the way she talks and lack of children?

Norland nannies are often ‘childless’, but that’s fine huh.

Ah but Norland nannies are nice young ladies from "good" families.

shinynewapple22 · 01/12/2022 00:05

@ChillyFloss the reason for the question about being related to members of the council on the job application form is to ensure fairness - that people do not have an advantage because they are related to someone! It's a declaration in case of conflict of interest.

antelopevalley · 01/12/2022 00:06

@SunsetOverTheBeach I think there are different ways to raise children so I am not promoting her methods. But they were far more complex than simply a behaviourist approach, that is simply an inaccurate summary.
She was very big on saying parents had to spend time playing with their children, having fun and talking to them about what interests them. She often "prescribed" sessions for a parent to play 1-1 with a particular child. She recognised some parents get into a negative cycle where it is all about practicalities and responding to a child negative behaviour and they never have any fun together.

When I started my first job in 2007 the company golf day was men only, as the golf course wouldn't admit women.

In 2007!!??? 2007??!! Wow.

I started work in 2006, sure it was a bit more sexist than now but wow. Not to those levels …

SunsetOverTheBeach · 01/12/2022 00:20

@antelopevalley her approach to dealing with tantrums / bad behaviour was behaviourist conditioning. I’m not saying everything she advised was but her approach to behaviour management most certainly was. To be honest I struggled to watch her putting children on the naughty step - it was genuinely distressing.

This article goes through it in some more depth for anyone interested: mamablog.teach-through-love.com/2014/03/why-supernanny-is-dead-wrong.html?m=1

Regardless of anyones class/experience of parenting it shocks me that people watched that show and implemented their own naughty steps.

That until 2010 you could legally sack someone for being gay or refuse them service at a business.

Wtf??

Peedoffo · 01/12/2022 00:30

Being told having a ruler shoved up by skirt and having my bum slapped by a boy was perfectly acceptable because my skirt was too short. This was 2008 when I was at school. Would not be acceptable nowadays.

The fact that people were crying out for more lockdowns washing their shopping , wearing goggles and gloves to do their shopping. It seems bonkers now 😳.

First job - manager asked me directly if I was planning on getting pregnant.

early 1970s - friend went through car windscreen in an accident and suffered terrible injuries. She was in a coma for weeks.

Erm, that's awful for your friend but I'm not sure your friend having an RTA falls under the same category as things which shouldn't still happen....

XenoBitch · 01/12/2022 00:31

2006ish... was not allowed in a pub lounge because I was female.
It was empty.

Competitive coldness from people who can afford it on MN.

I'm thinking TrashyPanda meant her friend was the driver or passenger of the car, not wearing a seatbelt.

You might have justifiable reasons not to like the programme,. but it is obvious she is working class. That is what all the comments about her not being able to speak properly from various people here really mean.

How is it obvious?

OP posts:
LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 01/12/2022 00:44

And I’m not the one implying it’s working class people that don’t speak properly 🤷‍♀️

Ever so sorry I didn’t list every single grievance I have about the woman in my OP 😂

Honestly the utter desperation from some posters to pick holes is fucking pathetic

People being demonised and banned from travelling because they won't agree to being injected with an untested experimental and totally pointless (unless you're CEV) drug.

That degree fee's rose from around 3k a year to 9-10k a year.

That student accommodation providers assume the amount students get is to solely cover rent and charge a student receiving 5k a year 6k in rent when there are no jobs for students.

That Liz Truss got away with ruining the Housing market for an entire generation to the point no one can get mortgages or afford to buy even with jobs on over 30k a year.

That the conservative party is literally running the NHS into the ground through reduced spending to force privatization and people aren't acknowledging it.

That the government has screwed people aged 18-30 over so much, most people I know are/have moved abroad permanently, which will leave a huge void in the job and housing market and reduction in tax collection...solely because of their negligence and failure to offer opportunities to buy and grow.

That possessing and circulating child pornography was only made illegal in Japan when the bill was passed in 2014. You can still buy cartoons and books that depict a cartoon form of child pornography. And there are over 300 cafes where girls of 15 in school uniform are paid to talk to drunken old men, or let the men sleep on their laps. www.ladbible.com/news/viral-in-japan-there-are-cafes-with-underage-children-entertaining-drunks-20170228.

Since when did children make porn?

MissTrip82 · 01/12/2022 01:19

Probably the attitude towards childless people that made you think it was relevant to your criticism of Jo Frost.

Kitkatcatflap · 01/12/2022 01:20

But I loved Jeremy Kyle. I used to record and watch it when I got home from work

The market was already on its way down Liz just sped it up. All the housing markets in western economies are falling, the UK wouldn't have got out of it unscathed. We live in a global economy , we buy a lot of imports in dollars if the pound crashes we can't buy those things. When the US increases rates we must follow.

Peedoffo · 01/12/2022 01:28

Also it was crazy that house prices were allowed to increase 25-30 percent in two years. It wasn't normal.

Blackheath95 · 01/12/2022 01:43

@LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet any legitimacy you may have had with this thread I think you have lost. Why is it ok for you to comment and sneer at the way another person talks? Seems a bit ironic to me that you can’t see that. When you are generating het up about the way others are treated.

TheSilentPicnic · 01/12/2022 01:47

The wide-scale horrific abuse of Meghan Markle.

Dullardmullard · 01/12/2022 01:48
