The Jeremy Kyle Show. Middle class man shouts at poor people who aren’t terribly bright, for not being perfect humans. So pleased it ended.

On X Factor and BGT when they used to show ‘funny’ auditions of people who believed they had talent but really didn’t so got laughed at. They then brought them back for the final to do a humiliating routine live so they could be laughed at more.

Supernanny. Childless woman who can barely speak properly pulls lemon faces, tells parents they’re shit and Instills sudden and sharp changes in the child’s home where actual camera are focussing on them when they’re distraught and upset

Sun sea and suspicious parents. Mum and dad spying on their adult children from a rooftop in Greece whilst said child gets off with a stranger. CREEPY!

This! The absolute best schools round here are church schools. So some children are also entitled to a better education purely because they're parents are willing to rock up to church once of fortnight, or can find a minister who is willing to say that they did. I find the fact that these are state schools even more shocking.

Oh Christ. Their not they're. Shocking.

The idea that shooting your face full of toxins and plastic is "self care" and a "treat".

Buying fags at 16

And buying single fags from shops near school! (Late 90s)

My friend got sent home from work experience around 1993 for wearing trousers! The boss had instructed his secretary to tell her to "go home and put on a little skirt".

When I started teaching in the mid 90s the (male) Head proposed that female staff should wear skirts. It didn’t go through.

Performing double mastectomies on the healthy breasts of young women who haven't even reached their twenties yet. And framing it as 'progressive'.

Transphobic scaremongering as per usual, I see 🙄
Evidence this has happened aside from in the fevered imagination of certain people: 0.

So Keira Bell is lying then?

Does anyone remember a show called 'The Swan?' It took perfectly normal looking but insecure women, locked them in a house with no mirrors for a few weeks and gave them a shitload of surgery, dental treatment, hair extensions and so on and put them on a diet. Then after all that they let them look in a mirror and they'd be like Shock THEN they had a big reveal to their families who would also be like Shock AND at the end of a series they had the swan pageant and whoever won the pageant 'won' the series.

Was it on during the day, after lunch? I remember something very similar. Very invasive plastic surgery and the most transformed woman would win?

Bathtubbathing · 30/11/2022 22:43

That foodbanks are an accepted part of society, and are well used and have had a significant increase in use since 2020. Instead we should be raging that people in full time work can't afford to feed themselves (+ family)

Same goes for warm spaces.

Neither should have to exist. The government thank charities for running them instead of sorting things out so they are not needed.

Makes me so cross.

@Puffalicious I started teaching in 1991 and the male head wouldn’t allow female teachers to wear trousers. Unbelievable when I think about it now. We also had to call him Mr Surname and were never allowed to use his first name.

Arsehole..

The downside of social media... enabling anonymous people to tear a stranger (to them) to shreds with no repercussions...

My friend got sent home from work experience around 1993 for wearing trousers! The boss had instructed his secretary to tell her to "go home and put on a little skirt".

I recall vividly in the early 70s a colleague daring to come to school in trousers, in the Staffroom the Head made some halfhearted comment about dress standards and she started to unbutton them, saying OK, I'll not wear them! We never heard anything else about trousers. He apparently had no problem about it, it was the Senior Mistress who didn't like them.

Collector culture in public spaces

Dog foulers impunity ( why no dna tracing?!)

Kevin McCloud’s tit staring

The Tories pandemic cronyism

Bewildering lack of investment in addressing social determinants for inequality primary care for the aging population

Shag all support for kids/adolescents (who will inevitably derail) if they’ve endured social/life trauma but would flourish with the tiniest bit of consistent, low level kindness and support

good one above re dentists getting paid per item of service so we would randomly have teeth pulled as a kid in the 80s (6 pearly white teeth for me )

jamming 32 4 and 5 yos into little chairs in a school class with one teacher and just expecting their mental and physical health will be fine and they’ll achieve their academic and social potential

Electing fascist narcissists to lead democracies

Bunnycat101 · 30/11/2022 22:56
  • I think the 2000s singing competitions they were v explorative and mocking people who were most likely vulnerable or mentally I’ll and the fact it was all so manipulated.

  • my year 5 teacher was a sex offender and everyone knew about him and yet nothing was done. He was eventually convicted years later but as an adult I’m deeply uncomfortable with how much of an ‘open secret’ it was with no-one doing anything the fuck about it. I remember everyone in year 4 being scared to go into his class the year after. It gives me the creeps now.

  • I think our throw away culture will be frowned upon in the future. I’m not the best environmentalist but I am getting more conscious about how much single use tat there is and how wasteful I can be.

What does Jo Frost’s lack of children have to do with anything? It doesn’t make her any less qualified a nanny.

But she is as thick as pig shit.

All these awful programs, either revolting or pointless:
naked attraction
married at first sight
love island
the only way is essex

As for Jeremy Kyle, I’m surprised he was never punched, or Simon Cowell on X Factor for the way the treated people.

These programmes can only exist because people watch them and pay extortionate amounts of money to phone in and vote. If no-one watched the garbage they would go away. The solution is in the hands of the public but as we live on a word where being private is considered odd, you have to 'share' or there's something wrong with you, it's not going to change.

Bras are underwear, emphasis on the ‘under’. Ie. They were worn beneath your clothing, not being on shown.

My shoulders slope and I have never found a bra whose straps do not slide down. I'm obviously a harlot.

That a friend of mine has walked 10.4 miles today whilst picking/packing in a warehouse (he’s 6ft 4inch for reference) and has been told “to pick up the pace”.

As someone who’s over a foot shorter than him, I’d last approx 4 hours in that job.

I feel his pain. Do approximately the same, sometimes slightly more and its still not enough😞

I'm currently reading a Marian Keyes book written maybe about 20 years ago, and some of the statements about lesbians are a bit eyebrow-raising. Not homophobic, just quite 'othering' in a way I don't think would pass muster today.

Celebs/influencers using their children as part of their brand and making money off the back of them (the Faiers sisters for example).
