The Jeremy Kyle Show. Middle class man shouts at poor people who aren’t terribly bright, for not being perfect humans. So pleased it ended.

On X Factor and BGT when they used to show ‘funny’ auditions of people who believed they had talent but really didn’t so got laughed at. They then brought them back for the final to do a humiliating routine live so they could be laughed at more.

Supernanny. Childless woman who can barely speak properly pulls lemon faces, tells parents they’re shit and Instills sudden and sharp changes in the child’s home where actual camera are focussing on them when they’re distraught and upset

Sun sea and suspicious parents. Mum and dad spying on their adult children from a rooftop in Greece whilst said child gets off with a stranger. CREEPY!

Shows like fat families, and supersize Vs superskinny! They would never fly now would they? Steve miller from fat families used to greet the families 'hello fatties' 😬 no wonder so many people hate their bodies.

Ricky Gervais Extras Christmas special covers a lot of what you mentioned OP, his character Andy Millman is put in the Big Brother house and states that the Victorian Freakshow never went away, how we still drag put the vulnerable and bewildered to be angered at. Excellent series if anyone hasn't seen it.

I'll say the fact that so many people appear apathetic towards the homeless, ignore or even abuse those sleeping rough. I cant get my head around it. I can rarely give them any change anymore as can't really afford to, but even when I cant I still acknowledge them and say I'm sorry I dont have anything.

That there are still homeless people in a Western country in 2022.

I agree it cost nothing to be polite, a simple sorry " i dont have change " is just standard

But i do prefer to buy homeless people food and drink because of bad experiences

You wouldn't believe how rude some of them are in my area
ive given 2 people all the change in my pocket which included £1 coins and 50ps no coppers and the man screwed up his face in irritation as if i didnt give him enough ..
And recently a woman did the same thing, rolled her eyes after i gave her all my change and I slagged them both off
theres no room for attitude when youre begging people for change
I completely understand why some people ignore

Being forced to get naked and take a communal shower after PE at secondary school.

This!

I was at secondary in the 90s, and we had to strip off, hang our towels up and go through some corridor of shower heads.
You could get excused if you were on your period. Our tutor would put a "P" in the register next to your name, and track your cycle. We would get asked to show bloody pads as proof we were menstruating.

Loads of nannies and childminders don’t have kids. Get lost. Confused

But they don’t go on TV telling other parents how shit they are

I can remember this really weird program with Denise Van Outen where she would get peoples grown up children to ask their parents personal questions about their sex lives while they sat in a bed on stage. She used to do a funny little dance at the beginning- tell me someone else remembers this and it’s not some weird dream I had.

In years to come people will say Naked Attraction.

I Agree. I think lots of parents could learn from her, plus many teachers don’t have children!

Not sure that correlates. A non-parent giving parenting advice is one thing, being able to teach but not having dc is not the same at all (imo)

Irritating people on the internet that have an audience for mindless boring thoughts that pop in their head… oh wait.

Irritating people on the internet who weigh in to tell everyone how boring they are rather than not engaging. So many people getting involved in stuff they’re apparently bored by is v weird

They do usually have some childcare qualifications though. And hopefully they also have children’s best interests at heart, which doesn’t involve exploiting them on tv. Children can not give informed consent to appear on tv having their tantrums, behaviours and difficulties shown to the world. Super nanny was not super.

Lifeomars · 30/11/2022 22:13

on the topic of X Factor and BGT what used to really get to me was the mockery of people who clearly had mental health issues, Kyle show had similar traits

The Undateables

Saw one of the guys from the show today! Made me smile and almost ran to say hi, but chickened out.

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 30/11/2022 22:14

I remember many a late Saturday night trying to sleep, alongside my sister, in the back of my dad's cortina. Both parents would be half cut from a house party but there was no drink and drive limit in the 70s/80s. We never had an accident in all those years which was a blooming miracle. All my family smoked as well (talking 70 a day) in spite of my own mild and my cousin's severe asthma. And being doused in after sun because I burned every holiday, mum said I needed to get some colour in my face...just finished treatment of a first basal cell carcinoma 🙄

The blatant lies, deceit and self investment of the Tory government under Boris Johnson with no real repercussions. They should be in jail.

caroleanboneparte · 30/11/2022 22:15

That very young teens were paid babysitters for babies/ toddlers.

Think 13/14 year olds being left with a baby, 2 and 4 year old for several hours at night.

it was banned in 1986 on US planes and 1988 on all planes

No It wasn't. I worked as a Flight Attendant. I don't think it was banned on our British Carrier until at least 1997 (maybe the end of 1996) although it did end up being route specific and only in certain parts of the Aircraft. I remember operating a Seoul down the back of a 747. You couldn't see for the haze... it was hideous to work on but I didn't know any different.

Young people destroying their own healthy teeth , so they can get ugly chiclet veneers

Stripedbag101 · 30/11/2022 22:20

It being okay for teachers to hit their pupils.

I am in my forties and remember being hit and locked in a cupboard by a teacher for crying in class. I was six.

I also remember a teacher hitting a big so hard he flew across the classroom and knocked the bin over.

if a teacher did that now he or she would be arrested.

Permanent, radically altering children's bodies because they feel a certain way instead of seeking therapy.

Transphobic scaremongering as per usual, I see 🙄
Evidence this has happened aside from in the fevered imagination of certain people: 0.

No but she didn’t have any qualifications in childcare either

Neither do most parents

But she was a nanny for 20 years or something, which seems reasonable

Oh yes that takes me back to the late 90s when we'd all pile round the house where our friend was "babysitting." Think 4/5 15 year olds sat smoking and sometimes drinking barcardi breezers in the lounge and being teens whilst a 2 year old was asleep in the next room of a small flat. The baby's mum had a job in a club and wouldn't get home until the early hours. Scary when you think about it now.

MrsRinaDecker · 30/11/2022 22:26

I had a McDonald’s birthday party and it was brilliant!
Also remember smoking sections on planes and in restaurants, pubs and clubs as well.. The local nightclub sold packs of 10 behind the bar, even on under 18’s nights.

I did this for the baby of someone who’s now an MP. I had zero clue about babies and must have been 12/13. I can remember the confusion the first time the baby woke up. Like WTF do I do with it?! We both survived I guess.

That some children are entitled to a better education simply because their parents can afford it.

I find that shocking.

This! The absolute best schools round here are church schools. So some children are also entitled to a better education purely because they're parents are willing to rock up to church once of fortnight, or can find a minister who is willing to say that they did. I find the fact that these are state schools even more shocking.
