Been away for work meeting. About to drive back but my car has broken down. AA can't fix it (they're unable to diagnose the issue) so need to take to local garage tomorrow. Work have put me in a hotel overnight. Have an appointment with cardiology for minor surgery at 7.45 tomorrow morning. Can't get through to hospital to cancel (just rings out) and apparently their phones open at 8. What do I do? Just not show up?

This is an aside but I actually DON’T understand how anyone (who has been living somewhere a while) would not be able to access cash for an emergency:

friends, I have none

family same

sell something, can't - I'm disabled and not in a position to start selling my possessions

payday loan etc nobody is lending to me with no job

and if you can’t it’s pretty worrying.

You are not wrong. It IS worrying. It's a horrible way to live, sadly very true for many people though.

Just wanted to say I can't believe some people on this thread giving OP such a hard time. I know at least one person had kindly offered to lend the OP £100, but I know what it is to not even be able to borrow such a sum because of having NO WAY of being able to pay it back in the foreseeable future.
I really do think that some of the people on here are completely divorced from reality. Give thanks for your good fortune and stop being so judgemental.
Glad you got it sorted OP.

LaDamaDeElche · 02/12/2022 07:29

What did I just read?! Some people on this thread need to check their privilege. Vile.

xmaswiththeinlaws · 02/12/2022 07:50

Surely a hire car would be cheaper than the train fare and the company should be happy to cover it. Hope you made it to the appointment.

Calm down. Wink People are entitled to their opinions and views. No need to get so irate.

I’m not irate.

I’m gobsmacked by the stupidity of responses like yours

ShirleyPhallus · 02/12/2022 09:05

Sometimes you read a thread which is the worst of MN and then another comes along and you think, no, this really is the worst of MN. No need for posters to have been so horrible to the OP.

Although suggesting she sell something to get the money to go home did make me laugh. Where and to who will you be able to start selling the possessions of your back?!

Sickofcoughing · 02/12/2022 09:05

Ugh talk about stress OP. I'm glad you are sorted and I hope the procedure goes well next week.

ThoseWhoDance · 02/12/2022 10:38

Wow, I do find it quite depressing how many people think everyone can find £100, just like that. There is such a reality gap between those who are 'comfortable' and the (increasing number of) rest of us. For all those complacent folks sitting there thinking only those who are 'careless', 'foolish', not hardworking etc, are in difficulties right now, let's hope you don't suddenly find yourselves, through no fault of your own and like so many others, in a similar position....
Also, look up 'empathy' in the dictionary.

Barney60 · 04/12/2022 12:22

Not sure what cover you have, why are the AA not taking you back, there supposed to tow or low loader it to where you need to be.

Barney60 · 04/12/2022 12:22

Sorry just read your now sorted, am a bit behind with MN.
