Can't get through to cancel!

Been away for work meeting. About to drive back but my car has broken down. AA can't fix it (they're unable to diagnose the issue) so need to take to local garage tomorrow. Work have put me in a hotel overnight. Have an appointment with cardiology for minor surgery at 7.45 tomorrow morning. Can't get through to hospital to cancel (just rings out) and apparently their phones open at 8. What do I do? Just not show up?

Everyone’s gone doolally 🙄

Glad it’s sorted OP

Mamamoo12 · 01/12/2022 19:20

Why is everyone giving the OP a hard time? You can’t help certain situations and it’s very unfortunate but I’d be the same and simply wouldn’t have £100 to pay to get back etc I’d be feeling stressed too but there’s not a lot you can do about it except call them at 08:00 tomorrow morning.
I think some of the comments are just horrible and rude!

Justbefair · 01/12/2022 19:26

Can you get through to hospital switchboard and ask to leave a message maybe? It's just one of those things that happen, of no luck jist explain tomorrow you tried, it's not your fault you can't get through. Big breath, can't be helped...xx

Sorry, the OP is too busy to use her time machine right now.

On a different note - please do make sure you have business use on your insurance policy. God forbid something happened and you didn't have it (hopefully you do).

People expect to pay huge premiums for this but occasional business use generally costs nothing extra or maybe just a few pounds more.

I hope all is well with the car now, and nothing too expensive. We don't want the cost setting off a heart attack now do we !!!

I have got business use on there. Didn't cost me any more 😊

Reading some of these comments has made me so sad. The attacks on somebody for not being able to magically pull £100 out of their arse are unbelievable. I'm a working adult and a parent and I currently have access to £13.46. Some people are so oblivious to the struggles a lot of us are facing currently. I'd rather be poor than rich with an ugly heart.

Glad you have things sorted OP. I'm sorry you've had such vile comments.

itsjustnotok · 01/12/2022 19:47

@been and done it. i work in A&E we have lots of phones and even more calls than the staff can deal with alongside booking in patients and all the other work. I took a call and was on it for 25 mins because one person could not accept what they were being told. Refused to listen, I explained how we could help and they did not want to know. That was one call when I could have taken and other 8 at least. We are not superhuman. Sure there are some crap employees but I’ve found some mumsnetters really do think it’s so easy.

Missingpop · 01/12/2022 19:48

I honestly cannot believe the amount of crap being dumped on you; what happened to be kind!!
People moaning about you not having £100 sat in your pocket; I suppose all of them have that as loose change just sitting around then? None of them are affected by the cost of living crisis; they’re not suffering from fuel poverty? They all need to get their head out of their arses & stop being dickheads.
In regards to your cardiac surgery isn’t great that there are so many medics on here; all knowing about your personal medical history from the little information you shared; it’s like a written version of the Jeremy Kyle show; why you have to defend yourself is beyond me.
I’m really pleased you’ve got it all sorted out, hopefully your procedure goes well too x

honeyytoast · 01/12/2022 19:50

I’m astounded by the way you’ve been treated on this thread. I’m so glad you managed to sort it and will still get the surgery without having to spend £100 you don’t have.

I’m sorry that some posters struggle with empathy and are keen to blame you for the NHS’ issues.

Teaismymiddlename · 01/12/2022 19:57

Glad you've sorted it op.

And as for the person that said there's no way you could literally not have anyone to ask for the money or a lift.... 🙄
Seriously.
Are you that narrow minded to not believe that a person may be on their own. As in totally on their own, no partner, parents deceased or non contact and no siblings??

What a small world you must live in to only know people that have a massive support circle

Mummymoomingrumpy · 01/12/2022 20:03

An operation costs a lot more than £100 so I would find a way to get to the operation. Most surgery is thousands so if it were your own money you were losing you would probably find a way. It’s annoying but a small price to pay compared to a private fee esp as NHS on its knees.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 01/12/2022 20:07

Try reading the thread @Mummymoomingrumpy. OP had no way of getting to the operation, why do some posters find that so difficult to understand?

Mummymoomingrumpy · 01/12/2022 20:12

PinkSparklyPussyCat
yes hands up only read first couple of pages and didn’t realise there was no money. Just an honest reaction - I would have gone into overdraft in my situation but then if there is no money then nothing can be done. Glad it was rebooked

Mummymoomingrumpy · 01/12/2022 20:17

Additionally I had to go into debt to get medical treatment for my daughter because of a four year waiting list so not meaning to be mean

Twentyfirstcenturymumma · 01/12/2022 20:19

Hope you saw sense OP and got to your appointment!

Did you think of reading at least the OP's comments?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 01/12/2022 20:37

Sorry @Mummymoomingrumpy, OP has had a really hard time on this thread and I just thought ' oh no not another one'! Anything to do with health seems to cause a problem on MN now!

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 01/12/2022 20:46

Instead of a hotel can your company not pay for a courtesy car

Harls1969 · 01/12/2022 21:13

Wow. Just wow! Firstly, OP I'm glad you're sorted. People seem to forget how many important surgeries are postponed at the last minute by surgeons, but how very dare you consider postponing minor surgery because you can't get to it! Honestly, I can't believe the comments you've had! If the surgery was life saving, then I'd be urging you to get there any old how, but then I very much doubt you'd be miles away from home working if you needed life saving surgery! I hope you're ok and that you're not taking any notice of the Mumsnet vipers. They've been out in force recently, waiting to pick apart anyone who dares post. Hope the surgery goes well

Emergencies yes. Someone needing to cancel their 10 minute surgery no.

browneyes77 · 01/12/2022 22:13

BlooberryBiskits · 30/11/2022 18:08

This is an aside but I actually DON’T understand how anyone (who has been living somewhere a while) would not be able to access cash for an emergency: friends, family, sell something, payday loan etc … and if you can’t it’s pretty worrying.

I was stony broke in my younger years and hated the stress of it. I would literally eat baked beans and drink water to not be in that position and have done (well, weeks of bread & cheap jam). Even if you were using a food bank you would still be able to access some money

What the actual fuck kind of blinkered bonkers response is this??

Also did you seriously just suggest the OP get into more debt by getting a payday loan?

Christ on a bike. What is wrong with some of the people on this thread??

Twinmummy74 · 01/12/2022 23:03

Your GP will not have a direct number to access, they have to contact the switchboard just like you do.

Calm down. Wink People are entitled to their opinions and views. No need to get so irate.

Hilarious that you of all people are calling others irate.
