To think that Adam White should have never been sent to prison and we're way too soft on career criminals!

I watched 24 Hours in Police Custody on catch up. A father and husband, a completely law abiding tax payer was chasing after two career criminals who had tried to burgle his garage, where he kept thousands of £ worth of tools he needed for work.

Adam White and the two thugs were in an RTC, the thugs were injured and Adam was sentenced to 22 months in prison for GBH. He lost his life savings, his job and his wife had an abortion because she wouldn't have been able to support a new baby and their two existing children whilst he was in prison.

The two thugs received community service...

Yes he probably shouldn't have chased after the thugs, but he didn't actually intend to harm anyone. Violent domestic abusers and career criminals seem to escape prison sentences all the time, yet a hardworking father had a custodial sentence to set an example.

I feel so sorry for Adam and his wife, especially since they had to make the heartbreaking decision to end her pregnancy due to all this.

His rage was understandable, but not sure that his actions are really justifiable.

He could easily have killed someone doing what he did.

Having said that, 22 months in prison seemed extreme to me given the sentences that rapists and domestic abusers often get.

I agree OP. Decent people are being trod all over by scum while middle class liberal bedwetters bleat on about how letting criminals do what they want is a sign of a ‘civilised society’.

Gosh, that's a rational argument isn't it? Use a lot of perjorative language to try to intimidate those who don't agree with your falsification of facts.

Unicornenthusiast · 30/11/2022 12:42

A lack of consistency with sentencing. Career criminals, paedophiles and domestic abusers receive non- custodial sentences for serious crimes. Adam could have been given a suspended sentence and community service, the same as the burglers.

He deserved to go down.

He was driving dangerously and caused a very serious accident.

Imagine if during the ensuing collision, it had taken out a neighbouring car with kids in?

Would you be full of pity for Adam White whilst sitting at your children's hospital bedside or worse? Would you be bleating 'oh but he was full of adrenaline and just trying to...?'

Moral of the story is that there's no excuse for driving like a maniac and putting everyone around you at risk.

FWIW OP I completely agree with you. They are scum. You’re wasting your breath here though. One of the defenders of these two scumbags was defending a paedophile the other day.

If you are going to make allegations like that, then say what and who you are talking about. That is a serious allegation and not one to fling around - put up or shut up.

What you mean is "Britain's legal system, police force and prison system are shockingly underfunded and under-resourced".

Britain’s police force seems to have enough time and resources to go after people for expressing controversial opinions online

Threadkillacilla · 30/11/2022 12:45

I think his sentence was steep though and the other two should have had minimally double whatever he got. The sad thing is prison will have had an impact on Adam but for the others just a business cost.

Soothsayer1 · 30/11/2022 12:48

I think there is a natural human tendency to underestimate the threat which vigilantism poses to civilised society

Foolsandtheirmoney · 30/11/2022 12:50

He was clearly driving whilst in a rage and quite out of control. His actions could have resulted in a lot worse consequences. The fact that the thiefs didn't get what I would consider a more suitable punishment than a suspended sentence is a separate issue. If your question was aibu to think the thiefs should have actually served time then I'd say yanbu.

It is possible to not condone the actions of all parties in this sorry mess. Its not one side or the other.

For those who think Adam did right, where does vengeance and vigilantism stop?

That's because people always imagine that they and their loved ones will always without fail be on the right side of the mob.

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 30/11/2022 12:51

’put up or shut up’ 😂😂 ah that made me laugh I’ve not heard that saying for years!

Who can blame them! I would much rather tackle someone who's posting something offensive online than deal with a dangerous criminal, a dangerous criminal is dangerous they might hurt me!
Being facetious obviously but surely the police are picking the easy jobs because the difficult ones are more stressful and they may be exposed to physical harm?

nc9 · 30/11/2022 12:52

He didn’t cause that bad of serious injury if the two burglars were sentenced to 200 hours unpaid work. If the court deems them well enough to do that.

intervie · 30/11/2022 12:52

A beacon of this is that over £80k has be raised by the Go Fund Me for the lad convicted. I hope that, in some way it makes up for the baby they felt forced to abort,

What the fuck am I reading.

Yes but when it comes to a mob its every person for themselves...I don't think there is a right side?

Unicornenthusiast · 30/11/2022 12:54

@nc9 the thugs were caught riding in a car together, driving without a licence or insurance...

OP posts:
someonecookmydinnerplease · 30/11/2022 12:54

His actions were unnecessary. Nothing was stolen, the burglars fled. He chose to get in his car and pursue them. To what end game? What did he intend to do if he caught them?
What if in his angry driving it had been a completely innocent person he hit going round that corner?

The fact that career burglars like these little scrotes repeatedly get let off with light sentences is a different conversation. But in regards to Adam White, his actions had serious consequences.

What do you mean? They aborted a baby because they couldn’t manage, financially, whilst he was in prison

unlike the thief, who’s podding then out with no worries about how he pays for them, as he will pay for them via crime

No one bleats about that.
I am a victim of numerous burglaries and theft and even I agree with the judge on his sentence.

I've been the victim of one burglary and I still hope to this day that something painful happened to the thieving bastards at some point. They were never caught so I have no way of knowing but it's a nice thought.

Could be, or maybe the UK’s police forces have been infiltrated by certain agendas?

burnoutbabe · 30/11/2022 12:55

Wakeywake · 30/11/2022 12:35

The sentence is too harsh, but he had no business chasing them. I bet he wasn't planning on having a calm chat with them if he caught them. He was reckless, he could have died, he could have killed an innocent bystander.

his driving at 11pm through a small village could have killed people say leaving the pub at that time?

he was driving very dangerously, and was doing that as he was in a rage and chasing people (rather than say taking wife to hospital in emergency or bad weather caused the crash).

CPS prosecuting is done as the public DO need reminding that you can't do this.

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 30/11/2022 12:55

learnercook apologies if it wasn’t clear, I agree with the OP that Adam White should not have been sent to prison. I don’t condone his actions, as an innocent party could have been hurt, although I understand the anger he must have been feeling in that moment. What him and his family went through must have been terrifying.

I think the upshot is, most people are completely and utterly sick of seeing criminals getting away with soft sentences. As a PP said, that may well be a reflection on our woefully underfunded police and prison services. Sentencing needs to be tougher and then scum that terrorised this family should have gone to prison.

The tax payer will pay for them more likely

All it reminds the general public is that criminals will be protected at their expense
