How often do you leave the house if you wfh?

Orii · 29/11/2022 19:10

I've found since wfh that I only leave the house to go to the shop.

Sometimes I don't cross the front door for days. I used to go for walks when we had a dog, but he passed away a few months ago. 😞 it feels sad and weird walking our usual route without him.

I don't have any kids so no school run etc. I feel like I have nowhere to go!

Honestly? It does happen I suddenly realise it's been 3 days (or more shamefully)😳 weekdays are a blurr

Sorry about your dog.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 29/11/2022 19:12

I live by a river and some lakes. I try and get a walk in before I start as it’s too dark after.

i used to walk a lot before wfh and I miss it.

alittlequinnie · 29/11/2022 19:12

I make SURE I do a really fast 2.2 walk before and after I start WFH.

It takes me 23/25 minutes each time but often I sit for literally 10 hours in between and desperately trying to keep up some movement!

At the weekends though - hardly ever leave the house - sometimes don't even get out of bed at all!

Cheesuswithallama · 29/11/2022 19:13

I have to admit I hate walking, find it boring and my estate all looks the same! 😳
Maybe that makes it even worse.

(I do weight exercises and other at home so not too bad)

AperolWhore · 29/11/2022 19:14

5k walk with the dog every morning but other than that not very often some weeks.

Could you join a gym or work in a different place?

Orii · 29/11/2022 19:15

I also hate walking 🤣 although with the dog it was more enjoyable.

I had to go to the post office to pick up a parcel and realised it was the first time I'd left the house in days! I'm not sure how to feel about it tbh.

Get a new dog OP.

I do the school run twice a day unless DH is home then he will do it. I nip to the shop or post office but otherwise rarely leave the house.

VestPantsandSocks · 29/11/2022 19:17

Lunchtime power walk. By that time, the weather has (hopefully) brightened up and a change of scenery to break up the day.

DogInATent · 29/11/2022 19:17

At least twice a day, but that's walking the dog. Without her I would probably go a couple of days without at this time of year unless I made a conscious effort.

Numbat2022 · 29/11/2022 19:19

I try to go for a walk every day, either before work or at lunchtime. But I must admit when I'm busy or the weather is rubbish I can easily go days without doing more than the nursery run (in the car).

It's terrible for my health, I used to get about 7k steps in every working day. Now I struggle to do 2k.

Rocksludge · 29/11/2022 19:19

at least twice a day here, but only because of nursery runs.

I can totally see how you could go days though.

Zippedydoo123 · 29/11/2022 19:19

I was walking most days until the winter came. Now it is often raining or just too cold.

I went to the supermarket briefly today. Tomorrow a haircut plus health shop.

So maybe 3 times a week max. As Asda does home delivery!

TheChosenTwo · 29/11/2022 19:20

Well up until this morning it was 3 times a day. My youngest ds is in year 6 and told me last night that I didn’t need to walk him to school anymore 🙈
my old routine was to walk him to school and come home, walk round the block at lunchtime (2.5 miles) and then a long walk after work or gym.
so now it will just be the two regular exercise breaks - but I also go out in the evenings.
i love being at home so much but I have terrible back issues which are made worse with a sedentary lifestyle so I’m cautious to stick to movement where possible. Even when it’s really cold and dark and rainy! I stick a travel podcast or something similar on and away I go.

TooHotToRamble · 29/11/2022 19:22

I can go weeks without leaving the house! Glad it's not just me!

GiltEdges · 29/11/2022 19:24

At least 4 times a day usually; twice for the school run and twice with the dog. I also try to do a walk on my lunch breaks when the weather’s fine, which I’ll generally combine with errands e.g. posting a letter/grabbing milk from the shop, etc. I don’t love walking, but feel so much better for getting out and about in the fresh air.

Cheesuswithallama · 29/11/2022 19:24

I think this is the first time on MN thread made me feel better about something 😂😂😂

pompomdaisy · 29/11/2022 19:25

Once a day. Either walk the dog, nip to shop, always find one excuse to go out per day.

That's exactly it. I know I'd feel better for it. I just need to get myself out the door!

Easy done but a bit of outdoor exercise might be good for you. How do you find the solitude?

PopGoesTheProsecco · 29/11/2022 19:26

Sorry to hear about your dog.

I mainly work remotely (four days out of five) I only go out for school runs and errands for my mum at the weekend.

I used to be really active before I got Covid (4k runs at lunchtime when in the office) but now the WFH really suits me.

The thing that worries me though is now I’m driving less, I’m getting more anxious about driving. Planning routes to avoid certain roundabouts and ‘turn right’ junctions. I really need to get a grip.

I can go 5 days, Monday to Friday without ever leaving the house. Usually I meet a friend for a cuppa in the middle of the week to get out the house, and I'll do the shopping etc in a weekend. During the week it's not unusual for me to not leave the house for days

Get P signs. They are great at keeping cars safe distance away. Especially when they are on some massive car😂

Backtothegymgirl · 29/11/2022 19:28

God I’ve this problem, I work from home, I can have a few weeks where I am out constantly and travelling over seas for work then seeing friends etc, but right now I’ve not literally left the house for 11 days. I don’t want to go out for the sake of it, but my shopping is delivered, I’ve a home gym, I’ve fuck all place to go and I don’t want to go for a walk. It’s cold it’s wet and it’s miserable out there. I’ve no dog.

but I’m starting to feel like I need to go out. Just for the bloody sake of it. I actually feel embarrassed by it.
