How often do you leave the house if you wfh?

Orii · 29/11/2022 19:10

I've found since wfh that I only leave the house to go to the shop.

Sometimes I don't cross the front door for days. I used to go for walks when we had a dog, but he passed away a few months ago. 😞 it feels sad and weird walking our usual route without him.

I don't have any kids so no school run etc. I feel like I have nowhere to go!

I try to go out everyday
It's harder now It's dark so early. Until the clocks went back I was still able to go to my allotment after work - 20 mins walk, 30 mins pottering 20min walk back
I just find a reason to go out, usually to the local shops for the odd thing. I walk miles at the weekend and Fridays though

lemmein · 29/11/2022 20:47

Hardly ever - but I like it Grin

It's too cold and miserable - I like hibernating this time of the year.

thecatsthecats · 29/11/2022 20:51

I take a 15m mid morning break where I put the drip coffee machine on and power round the park whilst it brews. Usually mentally chewing over a work problem, but not always.

Come back to my desk with a lot more energy.

Then a 30-60m walk after work.

Redkettle · 29/11/2022 20:53

I got a second job fir this very reason working weekends finally getting out the house

Lcb123 · 29/11/2022 20:58

I can’t imagine not going out every day. We do live in a small 2nd floor flat though which prob makes it more inviting to get out! Always have a run or walk, during winter I take a longer lunch break and usually go then to make sure I get some day light. Then sometimes out again to the shop/post office/coffee shop.

Willmafrockfit · 29/11/2022 21:04

i struggle to walk without my dog,
its a hard habit to break

1Dandelion1 · 29/11/2022 21:04

Weather dependent I try to pop out at lunch for a watch and to feed the squirrels in the local park.

Strugglingtodomybest · 29/11/2022 21:05

I probably go out twice a day, on average. Once with the dogs and then again to either meet a friend for coffee or to do one of my extracurricular activities (not sure how else to describe these without using the dreaded hobby word!).

maddening · 29/11/2022 21:08

But if you were in an office you would be just going from home to office and back and feel you were in a rut for the sane reason, but with a commute on top.

Find some classes I reckon and a reason to go out x

Eastereggs1 · 29/11/2022 21:10

I’m the same, it’s depressing! For the first year/18 months of covid I walked every day but now I cba.

I try to get out and about for a few hours at the weekend.

PacificallyRequested · 29/11/2022 21:11

I usually go out every day. Either a quick walk at lunchtime or I have something on in the evening that I need to go out to. Occasionally if I'm busy I have to skip the walk but I make sure to get out the next day. I'd go mad if I didn't leave the house for days at a time!

emmathedilemma · 29/11/2022 21:15

I tend to work from home 2 days a week. One of those days I have a club in the evening so always go out, but the other day I don’t leave the house sometimes if the weather is bad! I definitely work better if I go for a walk round the block (about a mile) before I start work or at lunchtime but the reality is I don’t always have time or I have other things to do around the house. Part of the reason I go in the office is to get me out of the house!

PopGoesTheProsecco · 29/11/2022 19:26

Sorry to hear about your dog.

I mainly work remotely (four days out of five) I only go out for school runs and errands for my mum at the weekend.

I used to be really active before I got Covid (4k runs at lunchtime when in the office) but now the WFH really suits me.

The thing that worries me though is now I’m driving less, I’m getting more anxious about driving. Planning routes to avoid certain roundabouts and ‘turn right’ junctions. I really need to get a grip.

I'm the same @PopGoesTheProsecco I'd rather drive "the long way" than the shorter way as the shorter way has a hard roundabout. Tbf I did have a bump there once and I've never used it since..silly really but I just can't do it.

balalake · 29/11/2022 21:16

Every day without fail. Sometimes for a walk, sometimes to the shops, even for a small thing such as going to the post office.

SquigglePigs · 29/11/2022 21:35

I usually do one nursery run or the other but sometimes if my work is a bit mental DH does them all and then I suddenly realise it's Wednesday night and I haven't left the house since the weekend! It's rarer in the summer as I'll try to pick my daughter up earlier sometimes and go to the park on the way home, but it's very easy for it to be a few days. It can often be most, if not all, of the week where the only time I leave the house is to drive to nursery and back!

IntentionalError · 29/11/2022 21:37

I always go for a proper walk at lunchtime, usually around 5km. I live in a village, so I’m out in the countryside within a couple of minutes of leaving my house. I really enjoy watching the wildlife & seeing the seasons change. I also try to go to the gym a couple of nights a week, but I admit it doesn’t happen as frequently as when I worked in an office and the gym was on my way home.

Patienceisntvirtuous · 29/11/2022 21:39

As little as possible and I am happy with that Halloween Grin

I work nights from home. I have a dog but I have a walker who walks her while I am asleep. It's especially difficult because in the lighter months I used to be able to get out for a walk/run with her once I'd woken up, but this rarely happens now. Some days I don't leave the house at all. I try to nip out to see people. No children so no school run or any reason I have to leave the house but I am a loner and pretty happy with that. I always do a short workout of some sort if I can't get out for a run or walk.

I do go to the shops but if It's just top up shops family tend to just grab things for me.

I do love being at home though so I guess I may be the wrong person for this thread.

Cheesuswithallama · 29/11/2022 21:40

How long are some people's lunch breaks😂

JackTorrance · 29/11/2022 21:42

I have to admit I hate walking, find it boring and my estate all looks the same! 😳
Maybe that makes it even worse.
(I do weight exercises and other at home so not too bad)

Are you me?! I wft on an estate that is dull as shit to walk around, and I work out with weights in the house.

Swampthing55 · 29/11/2022 21:43

Barely ever and I feel resentful if I have too!

I thought that 😂 And when do they do housework?!

Decafflatteplease · 29/11/2022 21:44

Do you have a garden @Orii ?

I like to take my morning tea out for a potter round the garden or the greenhouse if it's raining. Often I'll try to pop out mid morning with a coffee and top up the bird seed etc.

What about any local corner shops could you walk to and get a takeaway coffee or something as a break? I've recently started getting parcels sent to a shop rather than home.as it saves money and gives me an excuse for a walk.

You say you have no children, what do you do on an evening after work? Would gym or swim be am option?.

What do you like to do on weekend?

It was ao funny during lockdown to watch people walk around in their actiwear and speed a snail could do with smiles and looking around then month later just dragging by looking into their phone and slowly the numbers dwindled 😂
Yup. Boring boring boring here.
It's different in some nice places

Eleusa · 29/11/2022 21:47

3-4 times a day. School run, walking the dog, going to something in the evening or to the gym. Can’t help but think that it’s good to get out, mentally and physically, even if just walking round the block.

Figgygal · 29/11/2022 21:48

Had a dog until last month and would walk him twice a day but now he's gone I started trying to keep up a lunchtime walk but quite often I get wicked into work.
3 days a week I do school runs so that gets me out
