How often do you leave the house if you wfh?

Orii · 29/11/2022 19:10

I've found since wfh that I only leave the house to go to the shop.

Sometimes I don't cross the front door for days. I used to go for walks when we had a dog, but he passed away a few months ago. 😞 it feels sad and weird walking our usual route without him.

I don't have any kids so no school run etc. I feel like I have nowhere to go!

I'm the same OP since my dog passed away.

I love walking but find it a bit boring on my own and don't like being in the middle of nowhere without a dog. I might nip out to my local NT place for a walk twice a week at lunchtime if I'm feeling motivated.

Otherwise I try to swim every other evening with friends, go to the pub a couple of evenings a month.

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 29/11/2022 19:29

I try to get out for a walk each lunchtime but if we have a run of crap weather then it can sometimes be 3/4 days, I have been known to go to McDonald's for a lunch for a change of scenery Grin.

devildeepbluesea · 29/11/2022 19:30

Twice a day with the dog. Even when I was in between dogs I tried to get out for a walk or a run. Then school run when DD is with me, I might pop into the local town or the supermarket at lunch or after work. I used to go to the gym but can’t make the class times at the mo - going to change gyms to accommodate.

I’m a natural extrovert though so, living alone, I try to build in plenty of opportunities to see other people.

Summerhillsquare · 29/11/2022 19:31

More in the summer for sure. It is pretty lonely. No pets either, which I'm sure would help.

gannett · 29/11/2022 19:33

I've definitely stayed indoors for 5 straight days in the past - when a big work project a shit weather coincided. Loved it, no regrets, didn't even nearly go stir-crazy. I don't especially need to leave the house and in weather like this I aim to do so as little as possible.

These days I go running at least twice a week though. Add popping out to the shops and add social engagements and I'd say I only get a full day indoors once or maybe twice a week 🙁But in this weather I just want to hibernate.

gannett · 29/11/2022 19:33

(In the summer it's the opposite, I'll find any excuse to wander outside for whatever.)

Jacks45 · 29/11/2022 19:36

I do get a bit comfortable and end up not wanting to leave the house. I could easily go a few days without going anywhere but I feel better when I go out for a little while at least. I try and go for a coffee or lunch with a friend once a week depending on who is available. And I go to the gym and classes a few times a week.
Any neighbours or friends WFH OP that would want a drink or lunch date? If you don't really like walking a coffee shop or something at the end of it might be more motivational.
Very sorry about your dog. It's alright to hibernate for a bit if you want to, go easy on yourself.

Tiredalwaystired · 29/11/2022 19:37

I always do a “false commute” which started in lockdown. 8am every day I go for a half hour walk around the block (there are woodlands at the. All of house which makes it pleasant).

it sets me up properly for the day - walk, home, kettle on, radio on, then laptop on. It just means that if the day passes me by I know I’ve had at least some exercise.

Tiredalwaystired · 29/11/2022 19:37

I don’t know why autocorrect wrote .All when I meant back!

Devoutspoken · 29/11/2022 19:42

Could u take up running or cycling?

HandbagsnGladrags · 29/11/2022 19:43

At least once a day, more often twice. Dog walk. Lunchtime swim. Go to the shop. I'd go mad otherwise.

PopGoesTheProsecco · 29/11/2022 19:44

Cheesuswithallama · 29/11/2022 19:28

Get P signs. They are great at keeping cars safe distance away. Especially when they are on some massive car😂

That’s a great idea!!

Justdontbejudgy · 29/11/2022 19:45

Not enough! I've probably got a severe vitamin D deficiency.....😟

KILM · 29/11/2022 19:45

Dog here so a lunchtime walk but if it wasnt for that i could easily go monday to thursday without going out! Sorry to hear about your pup

Cwcwbird · 29/11/2022 19:50

Every day. I run a few times a week and go to the gym a few times a week. I also have kids, no school runs as they're older but they usually need picking up and taking places.

Cheesuswithallama · 29/11/2022 19:50

I’m a natural extrovert though so

What fascinates me is I used to be too. Since ever. Then the first lockdown hit and I liked the break. Then I broke during second one and since then I am happy in my near solitude (DH but we have different shifts).

MilkyYay · 29/11/2022 19:55

I do school/childcare pickups, take kids to dance & sport classes etc.

I also go to a gym class, meet friends in evenings or at lunch for a quick coffee if others are wfh too

Ohmygoshposh · 29/11/2022 19:56

School run x2 most days (DH does it occasionally)

Always take a walk / run at lunch

Occasionally pop into town to browse the charity shops, time permitting (this involves a longer lunch break but I can work in evening to make up the time)

Cycling club - in summer I do evening rides

I also pop into the office every few weeks

LindorDoubleChoc · 29/11/2022 19:56

You need another dog OP!

I go out without fail every day even though I wfh 3 days a week and go to the office 1 day. You need to get outside.

lljkk · 29/11/2022 20:02

Every day usually 2x / day or more.
I am an anti-homebody. And I like walking.

TheGuv1982 · 29/11/2022 20:04

Christ, the sad thing is if it wasn’t for dog walks and school run I’m struggling to think how often I’d actually leave the house - which is why we got a dog in the first place really.

PeloFondo · 29/11/2022 20:05

On weekends, I don't tend to leave the house much in the week. I do exercise a lot though

Roundaboot · 29/11/2022 20:05

Hardly at all during the week. DS is a teenager so I don't have to do the school run. I do have to take him to sports training in the evening but DP does most of that.
Apart from that, it's just quick trip to collect shopping, the odd exercise class, popping to my mum's etc, on average once a day but I can easily go a couple of days without leaving the house, especially at this time of year...going for a walk when it's cold, dark and wet outside is not appealing.
It's not great for my mental health or waistline I know. Weirdly I was better in lockdown when I always took my daily exercise. Now I can go out as much as I want, I don't want to!
Sorry about your dog OP, it must be tough to lose the routine of walking etc as well as the companionship.

redtshirt50 · 29/11/2022 20:09

I was thinking about this today

I haven’t left the house in 3 days, and will have no real reason to leave until the weekend! the miserable grey weather doesn’t help.

I guess I will go for a walk tomorrow, but the thought doesn’t particularly excite me.

my mum was complaining about how she’s been forced to move her banking online because it was one of the only reasons she used to go into town!

TheDogsMother · 29/11/2022 20:09

When we had our dog a 1.5 hour walk (minimum) was compulsory. After we lost him we kept up big walks at the weekend but they dwindled during the week so I am now making myself go out and get 10 k steps every day.
