royal mail advice

Hi,

Any sane thoughts would be appreciated.

I have an important event on Wednesday. I ordered a critical item to be delivered last week with next day delivery, but Sod’s Law dictated it will be delivered this Wednesday itself due to Black Friday delays. I’m fuming with the company, they haven’t even offered to refund the delivery.

I can reschedule the appointment but it will be in about 4 weeks. I would lose money due to the short notice cancellation and also waste a day of annual leave.

What do you think Royal Mail would do if I visited the delivery office at like 6am on Wednesday with ID in hopes of collecting my order instead of it going out for delivery? I’m just trying to see if I can still get it on time.

The OP hasn’t slagged off Royal Mail, fgs there are some ridiculous people on here! If you go on the website for RM OP I’m sure there is something about them continuing to deliver next day parcels on strike dates. I’ll see if I can find it (assuming the company have still sent it via next day).

Lockheart · 29/11/2022 09:37

OP hasn't complained about royal mail to be fair.

OP I think your only option is to go somewhere today and pick one up in person OR find one in a store somewhere and see if you can get it couriered to you. It may involve travelling / be expensive, but if it's that important...?

@Meklk I am losing money to strike and fighting for my job that I love

My children can't go to school when teachers strike, which causes issues with childcare

My bins were overflowing when the bin men went on strike

Yes appointments have been re arranged due to nurses striking

We have been stranded due to rail strikes and had to get a coach home late at night

Strikes cause inconvenience. And good luck to all of them! I support them all!
Your not the only one with problems!

I am NOT striking. There are plenty of options if you are not happy with work conditions or pay in UK. Your customers, patients, etc should NOT suffer because you just WANT something better. It's interesting what you would say if your house would be on fire and firefighters would be on strike? Or your mum with stroke and A&E staff on strike?

Zingy123 · 29/11/2022 09:48

@Meklk Do enlighten us on the other options. You would soon complain if your wages were cut by 33%.

wildpeaches · 29/11/2022 09:50

@Meklk Patients are already dying in the NHS because of LACK OF STAFF. Due to disgusting working conditions, low pay and mismanagement. Nurses are striking to save the NHS as well as hoping for a decent pay rise in line with inflation! It is NOT a want to be able to afford to pay your bills and feed your family. It is a NEED.

If you don't feel the need to strike for better pay and a decent standard of living then that's on you. Maybe you need to value yourself more.

I support any and all workers that feel they NEED to strike to bring awareness and change to their working terms.

There are plenty of options if you are not happy with work conditions or pay in the UK. *

This is a bullshit cop out line trotted out by ignorant people who have absolutely no clue about the job market.

Very simple - get extra training /courses and change the job.

Of course it's much easier to stay at the same workplace 10 years, complain every single day and expect that employers or government will give you money from the secret pot.

Zingy123 · 29/11/2022 09:54

@Meklk Why should people retrain when they enjoy the job they do. RM want to change everyone's contracts. They have to fight for their rights.

7upandup · 29/11/2022 09:55

@Meklk I am not going to get into the whys and how's of my decision to stand by my fellow colleagues and strike.
I highly doubt you would just roll over and accept a p&o style situation in your current work place, especially when you value and love your job before all this crap came in. But hey plenty options out there, which is why over 115,000 people in Royal Mail are striking...because it's so easy to say oh didums I don't like this anymore, I shall just shimmy over to the next job with excellent pay, terms and conditions. That's better!

Oh yes that goes for teachers, railway workers, nurses and many more too. ..because there are so many jobs just now with excellent terms and conditions and pay. It's that easy! Wish I had known before.

Conkersareback · 29/11/2022 09:56

Glad the strikes are having the right effect, you're life is being disrupted! Exactly what they are meant to do.

Maybe the stupid CEOs will start being reasonable!

Strikers are stupid, you sound about five years old, i envisaged you stamping your feet because your train doesn't turn up!

That's for @Meklk

Conkersareback · 29/11/2022 09:57

@Meklk you're so unenlightened it's embarrassing!

It's about conditions, not just money.

🤦‍♀️

wildpeaches · 29/11/2022 09:59

@Meklk 😆 what!? oh yes why didn't anyone think of spending the time to re train, and likely not be paid for several months/years, as well as probably having to forking out for courses, whilst doing so. You must be very lucky if this is something you can consider without thinking about the financial repercussions of such things.

It's very easy to expect your employers to pay you a decent wage out of the millions of profits they are making every year whist the CEO's are taking millions in bonuses yes.
And I see you're of the ilk 'my tax pay your wages' with regards to the NHS too. What a gem you are. The CEO of Royal Mail, Simon Thompson, also got paid millions out of the government secret pot as well by the way.

7upandup · 29/11/2022 09:59

No longer going to strike because Brenda over the road is upset she hasn't got her parcel in time. Blame the crappy, stupid postie not the ceo who is levelling down a historic company and treating its staff like a pile of shite.
Quite happy when your postie is bringing the goods though, if you are inconvenienced then it means you require the service. This dispute could have been resolved months ago if the ceo was at all cooperative.

Exactly! Staff have lost ££££s, just stop and roll over, why wouldn't you?

Or retrain........

wildpeaches · 29/11/2022 10:03

@7upandup to be fair Brenda's parcel is probably more important that paying my bills, heating my home and feeding my children. Poor Brenda!

7upandup · 29/11/2022 10:04

If I were to retrain and go to uni or college I would have to pack in my job and have no income coming in, still have a childcare bill to pay to allow me to go to said uni or college. We are not entitled to benefits.

I am a photographer on the side by the way and it's still not enough to live on!

Exactly, it was a critical parcel 🙄!

An argument about the strikes is only derailing OPs thread, and she didn't blame the strikes or royal mail. She even said they couldn't be a factor because the retailer only posted today.

So your bickering is totally irrelevant.

pianaoff · 29/11/2022 11:12

7upandup · 29/11/2022 08:35

The thing is it has nothing to do with Royal Mail! How can you complain about Royal Mail when your retailer didn't send it within the time frame? It's out of royal mails hands!
Black Friday, coupled with strike dates that have been advertised with plenty notice and the retailer not sending it within the time period will obviously mean it will be late.
Complain to the shop you ordered from and get a postage refund or what ever but Royal Mail staff have enough on their plates without someone storming in complaining they haven't got their parcel yet!...when it's actually nout to do with them.

Can you find me where she said she was going to storm in and complain to Royal Mail? Or where she even blamed Royal Mail?

pianaoff · 29/11/2022 11:15

lemmein · 29/11/2022 08:43

Also next day delivery doesn't always mean dispatched straightaway and delivered the next day. I regularly have customers order, clicking next day, without reading the listings which state items take 2 weeks to post out.

One of my suppliers send out on a next day but that just means I should receive it quicker once it's dispatched - it can take 3 days to be sent out.

Why would you offer next day delivery then?

7upandup · 29/11/2022 11:17

@pianaoff I don't think Royal Mail workers would be very impressed with a customer turning up to the picket line on a strike day expecting someone to cross the picket to search for her parcel, especially when is hasn't got anything to do with them.
She may not have said she was going to storm in and complain but she was hoping to turn up and expect someone to do as above.
