royal mail advice

Hi,

Any sane thoughts would be appreciated.

I have an important event on Wednesday. I ordered a critical item to be delivered last week with next day delivery, but Sod’s Law dictated it will be delivered this Wednesday itself due to Black Friday delays. I’m fuming with the company, they haven’t even offered to refund the delivery.

I can reschedule the appointment but it will be in about 4 weeks. I would lose money due to the short notice cancellation and also waste a day of annual leave.

What do you think Royal Mail would do if I visited the delivery office at like 6am on Wednesday with ID in hopes of collecting my order instead of it going out for delivery? I’m just trying to see if I can still get it on time.

OP posts:

Are you a bride I’ll by any chance? 🤣🤣

Are you a bridezilla by any chance? 🤣🤣

bridgetreilly · 29/11/2022 02:34

They won’t give it to you. That’s not how it works.

Sorry but this is incorrect. I have regularly gone up to the sorting house & been handed my stuff (after showing ID).

Emmelina · 29/11/2022 07:35

Why didn’t you order it sooner? For something so important it seems very last minute. What if it didn’t fit?

splatfrog · 29/11/2022 07:37

I've also had the issue with next day not being next day. I now use alternative couriers for important stuff.

Conkersareback · 29/11/2022 07:37

Sorry @splatfrog but RM are on strike on Wednesday, they won't cross the picket line and they're not allowed on RM property whilst striking.

Conkersareback · 29/11/2022 07:38

wildpeaches · 29/11/2022 07:16

You'd think Simon would have more important things to do than be on MN at 2am would you.

His conscience is keeping him awake? I bodily wished!

Conkersareback · 29/11/2022 07:38

*bloody

Zingy123 · 29/11/2022 07:40

You won't get it from the sorting office. They won't cross a picket line. You may be lucky and a manager or agency worker might deliver it to you.

thelobsterquadrille · 29/11/2022 07:44

@splatfrog she can't get her parcel on Wednesday because Royal Mail are on strike, not because you can't (in general) go and collect from the sorting office.

7upandup · 29/11/2022 07:52

They are striking nobody will be there. Even at 6am.

moose62 · 29/11/2022 07:52

I don't understand why everyone is having a go at the OP. It is the company you ordered from who is to blame! You paid for next day delivery over a week ago...the company didn't send it for 8 days. I would ring up the company, make a formal complaint and hope they will refund not only the £11 they charged you for next day delivery but the full price of the item as it is no use to you after the event.

Iheartmysmart · 29/11/2022 07:53

I’m still waiting for a parcel sent on 31 October via Royal Mail 48hr tracked. The tracking information hasn’t been updated since the first of this month so I assume it’s been lost. Don’t think you stand a hope in hell of getting it in time.

TheRookie · 29/11/2022 07:53

I swear I've read this before!!

It doesn't sound like you're going to get your parcel op, even without the strikes I don't think you'd be able to go to the sorting office as they won't be open that early for customers 😤 best bet is to buy something locally if possible.

7upandup · 29/11/2022 07:53

Should have added, it's the retailer you need to claim money back from not Royal Mail to blame here. Strike dates are given in plenty of notice.

wildpeaches · 29/11/2022 07:54

@moose62 Errrrm maybe because the OP started a goady thread, at 2am, slagging off Royal Mail for something that isn't anything to do with them?! Hmm funny that.

MarshaBradyo · 29/11/2022 07:56

What is it op that you need?

pianaoff · 29/11/2022 07:57

Conkersareback · 29/11/2022 07:02

They're on strike on Wednesday, so you know what a strike is? It means they're not working, nor are they allowed on RM grounds.

You'll find your post is disrupted, because that's the point of a strike.

Can you read that or do I need to put some words in bold?

What a utter twat!

stuntbubbles · 29/11/2022 07:58

What’s the important event and what’s the critical item? We can’t help without the specifics.

Because she's blaming Royal Mail when it's nothing to do with them.

They can't deliver a parcel they don't even have yet.

moose62 · 29/11/2022 08:00

@wildpeaches The OP didn't 'slag off' the Post Office - she just wondered what they would do if she went to the sorting office early before they start the rounds to pick it up herself. She admits the company were to blame not the Post Office!

pianaoff · 29/11/2022 08:01

Hesma · 29/11/2022 07:09

Maybe you should have got your arse in gear and ordered it sooner. It’s not like we didn’t know about Black Friday and postal strikes ffs. No reason to be furious with others when in comes down to your incompetence and lack of planning.

While I agree the place she ordered from shouldn't of advertised and let customers pay for next day delivery when this isn't possible. It's also a week before Black Friday. The company should of dispatched the next day when RM wasn't on strike.

Op I don't think RM are to blame but the company is. I would of also chased with the company when it wasn't dispatched after a few days.

fairydustt · 29/11/2022 08:03

How is this thread a 'Royal Mail slagging off thread' the op is 'Royal Mail advice' and no where does the op slag off the Royal Mail? She slags of the company she bought from but not Royal Mail? There's some seriously over sensitive people on here

pianaoff · 29/11/2022 08:05

She wasn't even slagging off Royal Mail 🤣 she was asking advice if she was to go down to the office. She was slagging off the company. Jesus all these MNetters so precious over Royal Mail.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 29/11/2022 08:05

I run a shop online, I am asked numerous times a week 'Can you promise it will be here by such and such a date' I give the same answer to everyone which is 'I am sorry but once your item has been collected I can not guarantee delivery times'. I use numerous couriers and also RM. There are no guarantees with any of them, I really wish customers would understand this.
