royal mail advice

Hi,

Any sane thoughts would be appreciated.

I have an important event on Wednesday. I ordered a critical item to be delivered last week with next day delivery, but Sod’s Law dictated it will be delivered this Wednesday itself due to Black Friday delays. I’m fuming with the company, they haven’t even offered to refund the delivery.

I can reschedule the appointment but it will be in about 4 weeks. I would lose money due to the short notice cancellation and also waste a day of annual leave.

What do you think Royal Mail would do if I visited the delivery office at like 6am on Wednesday with ID in hopes of collecting my order instead of it going out for delivery? I’m just trying to see if I can still get it on time.

OP posts:
carefulcalculator · 29/11/2022 08:06

This is the company's fault, not Royal Mail.

Source an alternative and pursue the company for a refund on the first as they are at fault.

You are very funny to think you can just pop to Royal Mail and ask them to rummage for your parcel!

ZeroFuchsGiven · 29/11/2022 08:05

I run a shop online, I am asked numerous times a week 'Can you promise it will be here by such and such a date' I give the same answer to everyone which is 'I am sorry but once your item has been collected I can not guarantee delivery times'. I use numerous couriers and also RM. There are no guarantees with any of them, I really wish customers would understand this.

But they didn't even dispatch until 8 days later! It was totally the company's fault.

wildpeaches · 29/11/2022 08:06

moose62 · 29/11/2022 08:00

@wildpeaches The OP didn't 'slag off' the Post Office - she just wondered what they would do if she went to the sorting office early before they start the rounds to pick it up herself. She admits the company were to blame not the Post Office!

Your interpretation is clearly different to everyone else then isn't it.

'People believe in fairy tales and then get all disappointed when they are not true' is a common feature of life, unfortunately.

How is this thread a 'Royal Mail slagging off thread' the op is 'Royal Mail advice' and no where does the op slag off the Royal Mail? She slags of the company she bought from but not Royal Mail? There's some seriously over sensitive people on here

Funnily enough though the OP failed to name the 'major company' they want to complain about though didn't they. But purposely names Royal Mail several times. Why title the thread about it Royal Mail if the issue isn't Royal Mails fault? Why not title it 'John Lewis' or 'M&S' or whatever company tucked up here? Why, If the issue isn't Royal Mail, not name the 'major company' and ask why can be done to contact the company to sort out the issues. It's all too convenient considering the lengths Simon Thompson has gone to, to discredit Royal Mail employees who want to strike for better working conditions and job losses.

The opening sentence 'any sane thoughts' gives and insight into exactly what this 2am post wants to achieve. Goady!

BarbedButterfly · 29/11/2022 08:20

I would think it is titled Royal Mail because she is asking advice about Royal Mail, not the company, who should have dispatched the item as it was a week before black Friday.

Conkersareback · 29/11/2022 08:24

@pianaoff an utter twat? For stating the obvious and not understanding that will they let meeeeeeer get my stuff, because I'm really important, in not an option?

Unless of course OP is blissfully ignorant that RM employees are in the midst of industrial action?

The strike dates are well advertised.

Yep like I thought utter twat

uhOhOP · 29/11/2022 08:26

In the 2.5 years I've been reading threads on Mumsnet, several times I have felt compelled to make an account but then the feeling passes almost immediately. There was something about the responses to this post, though... Why are people so snippy? Is it that you are upset by the use of bold, or is it that you don't like people having urgent post?

Regarding Royal Mail, a strike doesn't mean that the company does absolutely no work on that day. They have big customers that they don't want to let down because of industrial action, and they aim to process and deliver those customers' mail. Probably this doesn't help the OP (something makes me think you've not ordered a pair of Adidas trainers...), but I just wanted to say this for those of you who are so certain that you know what a Royal Mail strike looks like.

She wasn't even slagging off Royal Mail 🤣 she was asking advice if she was to go down to the office. She was slagging off the company. Jesus all these MNetters so precious over Royal Mail.

Then why mention Royal Mail several times but not the name of the company who fucked up her order?

It's not Royal Mail's fault that the parcel wasn't posted in time 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sorry I didnt read the 8 days late dispatch thing.

MeMyBooksAndMyCats · 29/11/2022 08:29

No you won't be able to, by that time it'll be out with the posties.

Stop blaming Royal Mail, when it's the companies fault and yours for not factoring in Black Friday and the strikes stop blaming others for your errors. You're not that important.

Ponesta · 29/11/2022 08:31

Nowhere has the OP slagged off RM. She said in her first post that she is annoyed with the company she ordered from. She was just asking for advice on whether she might be able to get her item.

Why do so many people on Mumsnet fail to read and comprehend and just jump to the conclusion they want?

Wallstick · 29/11/2022 08:32

I've never been refused a delivery fee refund if the company didn't dispatch on time. Sometimes they refund the difference between next day and standard, sometimes they refund the whole fee. I'd insist on the whole fee if I were you because that was a very late dispatch. Unless, when you ordered, they already had a note on the website warning of delays. I wouldn't try to get my mail from royal mail.

7upandup · 29/11/2022 08:35

The thing is it has nothing to do with Royal Mail! How can you complain about Royal Mail when your retailer didn't send it within the time frame? It's out of royal mails hands!
Black Friday, coupled with strike dates that have been advertised with plenty notice and the retailer not sending it within the time period will obviously mean it will be late.
Complain to the shop you ordered from and get a postage refund or what ever but Royal Mail staff have enough on their plates without someone storming in complaining they haven't got their parcel yet!...when it's actually nout to do with them.

Ponesta · 29/11/2022 08:37

She isn't complaining about Royal Mail!!!

lemmein · 29/11/2022 08:38

Beyond that, they’re not the only courier that exists, the retailer could have chosen to use a different service.

In fairness OP, all couriers are affected by the strikes! I send out 10+ parcels everyday on a next day delivery - never had an issue until the last few weeks (I don't use RM!)

Also, the strikes obviously affect incoming stock to retailers - I've had 3 parcels stuck in the system for the last few weeks that I desperately need to fulfil orders. Even my Gousto box didn't turn up yesterday from Yodel which is obviously sent on a priority delivery.

It's shit at the minute for retailers/couriers - if you need anything urgently I'd avoid online.

Wallstick · 29/11/2022 08:38

Ignore the people getting irate, OP. AIBU really needs to implement a reading comprehension test to be able to post.

I have an important prescription of critical live-saving mood stabilisers that my perinatal psychiatrist put in the post yesterday. They're probably not going to arrive before my next attempt to unalive myself. I'm not even considering making this other people's problem when they've been driven to striking.

Check your fucking privilege.

Perhaps it's the bold words saying how critical it is, then saying the appointment can be changed?

Perhaps we know how a Royal Mail stroke looks because we've got close family members involved?

The offices are full of letters, packets, tracked items, they're going nowhere and with another 2 strike days this week, won't be going anywhere, anytime soon.

What information do you have to know what's happening?

Hmm, I think people have jumped to the defence of RM because absolutely none of this is their fault - and they don't need someone turning up at the sorting office at 6am on strike day fussing about a parcel that only got posted this morning.

OP won't get anywhere showing up with ID on strike day. Most sorting offices aren't even open tomorrow anyway.

lemmein · 29/11/2022 08:43

Also next day delivery doesn't always mean dispatched straightaway and delivered the next day. I regularly have customers order, clicking next day, without reading the listings which state items take 2 weeks to post out.

One of my suppliers send out on a next day but that just means I should receive it quicker once it's dispatched - it can take 3 days to be sent out.

Correction: important prescription for critical life-saving mood stabilisers... It's probably not going to arrive.
SMH no idea why I wrote that like the bloody medication was coming rather than the paper prescription. I have to arse around finding a pharmacy afterwards.

I am sorry what you are going through and maybe you need to get in touch with the crisis team if you are feeling suicidal, however I think what you have posted is out of order on a thread about Royal mail. As someone who has lost 2 family members to suicide it is not something I want to read about and certainly dont expect to read about it on a bloody delivery service thread.
